🎲 New Gamble mechanic : Gilbo's Ability

Scaling off the amount of luck you have you can increase your chances of getting a legendary, thus reducing your chances of destroying your cards (not banish). Other than that you can duplicate, make the cards free, randomize them (but keep the same rarity) or turn them to Legendary cards (Tier 5) if applicable or random ones if not applicable.

🪦 Postal Dude Gets Hired

We got a letter in the mail from DUDE begging to get a job so, as a variant for John Fenriz, INTRODUCING THE POSTAL DUDE! You can find out what he does in-game 😉

Let's begin our descent into chaos:

First Circle: Limbo

In the land of Limbo, reside the souls of pagans and the unbaptized. They hover tantalizingly close to salvation, like a carrot dangled before a hungry horse, yet they can never quite munch on it. Their earthly sins were so minor, it's almost unfair to punish them. Give 'em a break!

Second Circle: Lust

Picture an eternal mosh pit of passion-driven chaos. Lustful sinners swirl within a never-ending storm, like leaves caught in a hurricane of their own desires. They yearn for escape, but their cravings keep them tethered. It's a stormy kind of love affair.

Third Circle: Gluttony

This circle is all about rolling with the big eaters. Insatiable, enormous sinners amble toward their salvation at a snails pace. It's a test of endurance—can you out-walk their hunger? They've eaten their way here.

Fourth Circle: Greed

Welcome to a place where the wealthy elite learn the true cost of avarice. This zone has boomed recently as humanity's obsession with wealth hit an all-time high. Now, it's a billionaires-only club, where those who hoarded riches are weighed down by their golden chains. A taste of their own medicine, you might say.

Fifth Circle: Anger

In this circle, anger manifests as an explosive force. Sinners burst forth from the ground, driven by relentless rage. It's like a perpetual fireworks show of fury. They're so fast; it's as if they're outrunning their tempers. Swampy terrain keeps them in check, but not for long.

Sixth Circle: Heresy

Here, heretics quickly discover their mistake. They believed their souls would vanish with their bodies, but surprise! They're eternally aflame with their own dogma. Their once-cherished beliefs have become the fuel for their torment.

Seventh Circle: Violence

Imagine a realm where sadists find themselves on the receiving end of pain. These sinners once relished in others' suffering, they've developed and tolerance for agony. But the tables have turned, and they can't get enough.

Eighth Circle: Fraud

This is where rule-benders meet their match. Those who thought they could dance around the law find themselves bent out of shape. In this circle, they're folded and contorted back into compliance, like misbehaving origami.

Ninth Circle: Treachery

The home of Satan himself, where the ultimate traitors and game pirates dwell. This is the place for those who betrayed loved ones and their favorite games. Only the most skilled punishers dare tread here; the stakes are sky-high, and the challenges diabolical. Are you up for the challenge?

Hello everyone, it has been a while since we pushed a new demo build, and we would like to apologize for the lack of updates in the probation version as well.

Please understand that working on the demo and the full game as well up the probation, bugs, and balance can be quite overwhelming for our solo-developer Stevie, so we are currently completely focused on the development of the main game right now while also providing you with an updated Demo. We would like to invite everyone to play the demo instead of the probation, since it is the most balanced so far and currently offers the most amount of changes and features. ❤️ We hope you understand the change we made, and we hope you keep playing Heretic's Fork!

You will find a really exciting new info related to storage system, so keep reading 👀

So without further ado, It's time to punish some sinners 🤘!

👀 New/Important things:

The card in the top slot of the sacrifice area now persists through turns for all characters.

Developer Notes: You cannot add your own card to this slot, it only holds cards that were placed there via an upgrade. This is to ensure that players have the opportunity to use the new cards next turn, if they don’t have enough power charges to do so this round.

Niya Biblyat has been replaced with John Fenriz

Developer Notes: Niya Biblyat has been buffed and is still available in the full game, she has been temporarily swapped out to get some feedback on John Fenriz. John has his own card storage mechanic and starts with more structure slots.

Destroy has now been replaced by “Banish”.

Developer Notes: Players now “Banish” cards instead of destroying them, removing them from the card pool. This was to add more functionality to the “destroy” mechanic, as it was underutilised. (honestly, might still be)

New round reward system.

Developer Notes: Players will have more opportunities to add new cards to their deck from the collection. These upcoming events are displayed next to the round orbs on the right of the screen.

Steam friend highscores appear at the end of runs.

Developer Notes: Highscores can be toggled between “local” and “friends”. Previous highscores will still be available in “local” whereas only highscores obtained from this patch onwards will appear in the “friends” section. “Friends” highscores consist of highscores obtained by your steam friends, showing only the highest score of each user.

New music tracks added by Gates of Chaos.
At the end of a round, players can now choose 2 cards, instead of 1.
A counter showing Sinners punished has been added.
New music playlist system that allows the player to select what tracks will play during gameplay.
Shift + click to store cards has changed to Right-Click.
Shift + click to auto-use actives has changed to Right-Click.
Added an option to use cards on click, instead of needing to drag.
New UI for actives

🛠️ Fixes/Changes:

Burn Them All card effect now persists correctly
Clone Card can no longer pick the same card twice.
Blessed Card no longer offers the same card twice.
Blessed card no longer offers Tier 1 cards.
One Man Army is now unique.
One Man Army no longer incorrectly affects tertiary damage (Actives, Proc Damage, etc.)
Removed legacy dialogue from Klippy.
Once a Unique card is used, it should no longer appear in the same run.
Characters no longer start with a Structure by default.
Reload card has been reworked.
Praise Be has had its Tier increased.
Niya’s ability now also draws 1 card when used.
Niya’s ability now ignores her shield and only applies to her HP.
Scourge now correctly increases hp gained from regen rate.
Gravitational Pull active now correctly autocasts.
Glass Cannon can no longer be used unless the player has a shield.
Fixed the incorrect cost of a Divine Sight tier.
Sharp has been renamed to “Puncture”.
Hellfire Bomb active has had its damage reduced.
Support for forced text line breaks in card descriptions.
Fixed incorrect HP Regen from Extra Pump.
Updated description of Rockstar card.
Adjusted sound priorities (sounds should stop cutting off completely during longer runs)
Reduced baseline music volume.
Text for Controls has been updated.
Fixed an issue where the error prompt (i.e.; “Not enough Charges!”) was appearing off-screen.
Actives recharge rate now appears in the stat list.
Music tracks are now shuffled on launch.
“Luck” has had its baseline amount reduced.
Reduced the cost of the Bless card.
Fixed gamespeed not updating between stages.
Sped up and adjusted animations that grab from card collection.
The name of cards is now displayed when hovering over used items.
Reduced cost and quality of Blessed card.
Fixed an issue with card alignment in the reward screen.
Fixed an issue where re-rolling a Tier 5 card would reset game speed.
Scourge is now unique.
Hot Potato is now unique.
Fixed an issue with text boundaries for highscores.
Game should now correctly utilise laptop GPU instead of integrated graphics.
New animation and SFX after run ends, for credits earned.
Fixed an issue where Unholy MG range was not updating correctly.
Centred the back button in the pause menu.
Particles are correctly cleaned up between rounds and stages. (Strictly a performance optimisation)
Sniper Garrison units now leave the area before shooting, to prevent them from stacking up.
Removed game version appearing in 2 locations.
Hovering over cards for 2 seconds now displays their tooltips.
All cards which mention “sacrifice or destroy” have been replaced with “Banish” to reflect the mechanic change.
Changed text that refers to both Towers and Garrisons to“Structures”.
Fixed an issue that caused duplicate cards being added to the deck from the collection.
Recycle card has been buffed to compensate for the new Banish mechanic.
Removed the duplicate credits display in the character select screen and centred the title.
Fixed the Summoner card not giving correct stats.
Character names now appear in the pause menu.
Fixed an issue that caused the menu to become unresponsive on Day 24.
Fixed issues with unlockable files.
Fixed incorrect audio directions.
New sounds added for; fire, enemy escape, pentagram/curse spawn, repenter spawn.
Changed splash tutorial text to reference structures, banishing cards, and the card in the top slot not discarding between rounds.

If hitting an enemy with negative damage, the number no longer appears, and doesn't apply any damage. (used to heal the sinner!)
Fixed an issue with laptops running the game on their onboard GFX card.
Enemies in Endless and Demo increase damage each stage

You have been by our side, embracing the darkness and enjoying the wicked pleasures of Heretic's Fork. Your actions have made a lasting impact on us, and we’re extremely grateful to have such a community as you, because of you, we’re once again in the New & Trending Page!

But don't worry, there's more to come! A big update is coming that will bring significant changes to our beloved software. This will reshape everything, bringing in a whole new experience. Get ready, because things are about to change drastically going forward. Our demons have been working hard to improve your sinful journey.

New things

Sacrifice area no longer stores cards
Improved tower target acquisition
TAB to swap between item and card view (& added to controls menu)
New Occams laser tracks
Removed old tracks
Actives are now unique (one time use) (Spamming the same actives was OP on most of them.)
Added a card that increases recharge rate of all actives (3 tiers)
When upgrading cards or grabbing multiple cards from the collection, there should no longer be duplicates appearing.
Demo and Prologue HP multiplier per stage (x2.75 – x2.4)
Demo and Prologue max enemy count multiplier (x10 – x14)

Balance Changes

Duplicating Shiv has a 20% proc chance on crit.
Garrison Bomber spawn recharge (3s to 4s)
Increased damage tick rate of sunder tower (0.1-0.4)
Garrison Shooter recharge(10s to 15s)
Garrison Sniper recharge (15s to 18s)
Garrison Repenters base AOE (50-70)
Hellfire Active damage (5-10)
Holy Beam Active damage (100-200)
Slap Damage (? → 200)
Guns of God attack delay (0.25s – 0.5s)
Sniper Garrison range (300 – 600)
Sniper Garrison speed (2 – 6)
Sniper Garrison DMG (2 – 3)
Sniper Garrison shoot delay (2s – 6s)
Repenter movement speed (1 – 2)
Frankie Fast Hand cost (2 – 3)
Hellfire Damage (20/30/50 – 10/20/30)
Holy Damage (20/30/50 – 10/20/30)
Unholy Damage (20/30/50 – 10/20/30)
Reduced quality of Rainbow card (allows getting it earlier to run, so it can be built towards better.)

Added a new tier of Delivers of Pain and changed stat distribution to 10/15/20
Added a new tier of Persistence and changed stat distribution to 10/15/20
Added a new tier of Blessed Sight and changed stat distribution to 10/15/20
Added a new tier of Subordinates and changed stat distribution to 10/20/30
Added a new tier of Swift Vengeance and changed stat distribution to 10/15/20
Added a new tier of Frankie Fast Hands and changed stat distribution to 10/15/20
Added a new tier of Unholy Crit and changed stat distribution to 3/6/9
Added a new tier of Hemorrhage and changed stat distribution to 20/30/40
Added a new tier of Punish and changed stat distribution to 10/15/20
Added a new tier of Divine Sight and changed stat distribution to 10/15/20
Added a new tier of Fueled by Light and changed stat distribution to 10/15/20
Added two new tiers of Invigaron and changed stat distribution to 10/20/30

Fixes/polish

Fixed crash that sometimes occurs when combining 2 Judgement towers
Hellfire rock text highlighted properly
The amount of shield is also displayed in the HP value on screen, and changes color if part of it is shield.
Arrow appears on the line when placing or upgrading towers
Fixed cost of combining multiple legendaries.
