Everything was shot entirely in Second Life utilizing the Open Pony model. All the voices are just me pitched up so they're incredibly silly. Still hope you all enjoy!
As for steam related mare adjacent news... Hopefully, I'll be able to get some more updates on the viability of animated steam backgrounds in the near future!

This is unfortunately a known issue right now with Gamemaker and there is a ticket logged with YoYoGames to correct it. I am tracking this carefully on their Github, but a full fix is out of my hooves!
The issue is related to a function which sets the game in fullscreen mode and probably related to very specific device hardware for each user. Having said that I have some good news! I made a version that disables all Fullscreen functions!
If you are having the issue, follow these steps as a workaround to play the game!
Right click MareQuest: An Interactive Tail in your Steam Library
Click Properties...
Click the Game Versions & Betas tab and select the windowedlaunch radio button
Exit the properties and ensure your Selected Version is windowedlaunch before playing the game
I have confirmation from a user that this has fixed the issue for them! If you know anyone with this issue please let them know!
In other news I just wanted to say how humbled I am by the response from Steam Horsefest. I really didn't know what to expect going into it, but the game has had more units sold in the last 24 hours than pretty much the last 2 years. I'm a bit overwhelmed by this and the constant notifications everywhere. But I do want to say thank you from the bottom of my heart for giving this silly mare game a chance. Everyone's enthusiasm and love for cute little pastel horsie friends have made the many sleepless nights of development well worth it. I'm also so happy to have a nice little cushion of funds set aside for Sunny and Fallen Oak Horse Rescue! I know I've shared this picture a thousand times, but she's such a good rescue horse and everyone's generosity allows her to be able to live a happy horse life in a picture perfect paddock where she has all the grass, friends, and the most loving caretaker a horse could ever ask for!
Thank you Steam for Horsefest and I hope everyone has a Happy Year of the FIRE horse!

I am absolutely floored that all 5 of the animated stickers are trending in the top 10 of most popular on the points shop. At one point Mare Nod hit #26 across ALL Steam Points shop items. I wasn't expecting that. TOTAL MARE SWEEP!
There have been a few bug reports with The Filly Fiasco I've been working on so you may have seen MareQuest: An Interactive Tail have more than a few updates. Below is just a qrd on some of the things that have been updated:
Significantly increased XP of Strange Fruit
Fixed issue where speaking to island mares may rarely cause a game crash due to missing variable declaration
Fixed error message when speaking to friends in the Mane Story at certain points
Spelling Error corrections
There was also one crash upon launch report that I worked on for hours yesterday. The issue stems from a combination of the user using a TV as a computer monitor, the resolution being 4k, and the way GMS2 handles launching the game into Fullscreen mode (also potentially more likely on Windows 10). A workaround for this crash was the user changing the monitor resolution to 1366 x 768, launching the game, and then changing the resolution back. Now, I would probably be able to solve this by launching the game in Windowed mode, but that comes with its own caveats and issues. I'll be researching this more as accounting for various aspect ratios, resolutions, and devices is definitely not a strong suit of mine.
All in all, pleasantly surprised at the amount of bug reports coming in. Huge thanks to the testers who assisted in whittling down all of the issues prior to launch. Your help was greatly appreciated!
If anyone has a bug they'd like to report please post it in the #report-a-bug channel on the MareQuest discord server. That's the best way for my visibility.

I was expecting the new game and Steam Community Items to be completed and released by mid December 2025, and while that's still technically possible I don't think it's a good idea to rush past testing and quality control. I'd also like to give the artists I'm working with on the Steam Community items some additional time so they can make something they're proud of seeing on Steam.
I realize I set out business cards and sheets at some recent conventions stating the release would be December 2025, and I'm really beating myself up for doing that as keeping my word and timelines is extremely important to me.
The delay shouldn't be too long and I'm expecting everything in order for a late January or early February 2026 release.
I'm hesitant to commit to a specific date at this time, especially with the unknowns of Steam approval for the Community Item process. BUT NOW let's focus on the positive! Below are some previews for what to expect!
CUTE MARE STICKERS AND EMOTES ON STEAM!!! WOWIE SHE'S SO PRETTY AND NODDING HER LITTLE HEAD BECAUSE SHE AGREES!
Full new game mode in MareQuest: An Interactive Tail!
MareQuest: The Filly Fiasco is a point in click puzzle adventure where the day repeats like a groundhog day scenario! To find out what's going on you have to manage skills, resources, and git gud at silly little minigames to progress:
Buttons are more reactive! Change your cursor to a mare theme! Settings are (somewhat) helpful! Enhanced randomized dialogue! More interactions! Luck actually serves a useful purpose! Yippie!
Your save of the Good Ending should carry over to The Filly Fiasco, though I've decided to make it so you can play The Filly Fiasco Standalone as well. I do forsee some issues with save files upon release, but I'm doing what I can to mitigate this so you can play as your favorite mares!
It's a TON of work, but MareQuest is my life's work and I'm not giving up on it! There is more to come in the future! Believe in the mares! Your continued support has done so much good for Fallen Oak Equine Rescue, a charity I care about very deeply! Your support has specifically helped Sunny, The Official MareQuest Mare, live the continued happy carefree horsie life she deserves!
Mares are good! Mares are sweet! Say yes to hooves and no to feet!

What does this mean for the future of MareQuest: An Interactive Tail?
First I have been working loosely on finishing The Filly Fiasco for the last year and a half. Admittedly with the game not being approved for Steam Community items for so long I had been a little unmotivated to get this completed in a timely manner.
That has since changed though, after coming back from Everfree Encore 2025 I was surprised to find that the game is no longer in a Limited State through Steam and Community Items have been enabled in my Steamworks Development portal. Development has since resumed full swing.
1) Community Items
I have been on reaching out to various community artists to contract 3rd party digital art assets for the following Steam Community Items:
Profile Background x3
Emoticon Common x3
Emoticon Uncommon x2
Emoticon Rare x1
Trading Card Common x4
Trading Card Uncommon x3
Trading Card Rare x1
Badge Levels 1-5 + FOIL
Animated Avatar Frame x3
Animated Avatar x4
Animated Profile Background x3
Animated Mini-Profile Background x3
Animated Sticker x5
I will not personally release the artist names just yet as not all slots for these assets have been filled. As development progresses and assets are completed this will change.
2) Complete overhaul of the Mane story of MareQuest: An Interactive Tail Story
This is already about 50% complete, but the goal is to add procedural dialogue for all character interactions. This will not affect the story or outcome, but should provide a more unique experience per play-through. I am carefully navigating this to ensure that all dialogue flows in a sensible way and writing integrity remains in tact. Therefore the changes aren't going to be earth shattering, just provide unique ways of expressing the same scenarios. Expect more silly fun mare jokes from your friends as well as making them a bit more unique rather than interacting with exact copies of the same mares over and over per playthrough.
3) Add more interaction events in the Mane story of MareQuest: An Interactive Tail.
This is about 30% complete and should be pretty self explanatory. Expect more interactions in the Far North/South as well as additional goofy mares with goofy mare problems to help in the Story.
4) Finishing The Filly Fiasco.
This is around only 15% complete still, though the basis of the framework is more or less complete. This will almost by itself be a standalone game which very different mechanics than the Mane Story.
The tentative date for this release is between 1 and 20 of December 2025. I need to give artists the proper time to develop the community items as well as myself proper time to complete the necessary updates. It's no easy task as a single developer, but considering the base game was essentially made in 7 months, I'm confident with progress so far we can meet this goal. There is a chance some of the community items (Animated Profile Backgrounds specifically) might have to have a further release date, but I'm working to try and have this rolled out as a final complete update for this game. Future of the MareQuest series: 1) I'd like to add a final update to the first game as well which has already been started, but there isn't a timeline there. 2) Personally, I would love to add a final standalone game eventually but development hasn't remotely started in that aspect. The concept is quite a bit more complicated than MareQuest and MareQuest: An Interactive Tail, but I figured I'd mention it as a potential goal on the very very very distant horizon.
Fixed some text issues, small reported bugs, and notably an issue where the poetry mare didn't give the first rhyme. Added the rest of the 1st Filly Fiasco Scene before Scene 2.

Hello mare enthusiasts! Here's an update for MareQuest: An Interactive Tail! Notable additions include a cute rework to the forage mini-game, adding a Mare Gallery for end game artwork, a little preview for a new storyline, as well as bug fixes I've implemented over the past few months.
What's a mare gallery?
Starting today, every time you get an ending in MareQuest the ending art will be saved to the mare gallery on the Mane Menu! This is a nice way to see your previous adventures. Unfortunately, if you've already beat the game those endings won't appear as I had to make a new save file system to accommodate for this. Nevertheless, I thought it'd be a fun new feature to collect as many mare pieces as your little mare heart desires!
New Storyline?
If you get a good ending starting today a new option on the Mane Menu will be unlocked called "Filly Fiasco Preview". I'm still working on this so think of it like a teaser, but it's a cute and lighthearted continuation of the good ending!
Thank you for your continued support!
