Time for another update regarding the upcoming server shutdown and the delisting of Nubs! Arena from the Steam store.
First of all, we want to thank all of you for your questions, kind words, and understanding.
There have been a number of questions that kept coming up, so we'd like to answer them as best we can.
Will we still be able to play the game after it has been delisted from the store?
Once the servers go offline, online matchmaking will no longer be available. However, you'll still be able to download the game from your Steam Library and play it locally with your friends.
That being said...
Remote Play Together has now been enabled!
You can launch the game, open the Steam Overlay, and invite your friends to join via Steam Remote Play Together.
We recommend using controllers when playing this way, as mixed controller and keyboard setups may not always be detected correctly.
This means you'll still be able to enjoy Nubs! Arena with your friends over Steam using the local play mode, even after the servers have shut down.
Please note that the maps are slightly smaller in this mode, as it was originally designed for local couch co-op on a single screen.
Will there be a discount on the game or DLC before shutdown?
We really liked this idea and reached out to the lovely people at Steam to see what would be possible.
If you already own Nubs! Arena, you will automatically receive all existing DLC for free. Going forward, all DLC will also be included with the base game.
Some of you asked why we aren't making the game free. While we understand the suggestion, doing so would complicate the delisting process and could result in us having to remove the game sooner than planned. We felt that offering the maximum discount was the cleanest, quickest, and safest option.
Will I still be able to unlock achievements?
Many of the achievements can still be earned in local multiplayer.
Only achievements that specifically mention "Online" will no longer be obtainable once the servers have shut down.
We're considering reducing the requirements for those achievements before the shutdown to make them easier to complete. Let us know if that's something you'd like to see.
Why not add peer-to-peer multiplayer, release the source code, or let the community host servers?
We would have loved to keep the game playable online or hand over the ability for the community to host servers themselves.
Unfortunately, like many modern online games, Nubs! Arena relies on backend services that handle progression, unlocks, and other persistent systems. Because of both technical limitations and legal considerations, it's not something we can easily separate or release.
We know this isn't the answer many of you were hoping for, and we're genuinely sorry we can't make it happen.
Timeline
Nubs! Arena should remain available on the store until July 12, 2026.
On July 12, the game will be delisted from the Steam store. After that, neither the game nor its DLC will be available for purchase.
