But... It's not everything! We wanted to take a moment to share what we've been working on behind the scenes.

Steam Deck Verification Progress

One of our current priorities is improving Tarnished Blood's Steam Deck experience and working toward official Steam Deck verification. As we wrote earlier, we received information from Valve that the game is playable on Steam Deck, but requires appropriate fixes to receive the green mark.

What have we accomplished so far? Well, over the last few weeks, we've focused on improving readability and overall usability on smaller screens.

Recent improvements include:

Better visibility of buttons and important interface elements
Improved readability of various in-game texts
New options allowing players to increase text size and UI scale

These accessibility improvements won't only benefit Steam Deck users – PC players will also be able to customize the interface to their preferences.

The challenges

While many of the technical issues are relatively straightforward to solve, adapting a complex RPG interface to a significantly smaller screen requires careful redesign work. Some UI elements need to be rebuilt entirely to maintain the level of quality and clarity we expect from Tarnished Blood. It is a time-consuming process, but one that we believe is worth doing properly.

What's next?

Our next major focus is controller support. We want playing with a controller to feel just as natural and responsive as playing with a keyboard and mouse. This includes refining navigation, improving gameplay flow, and ensuring that every action feels intuitive regardless of your preferred input method.

We're very happy with the progress we've made so far and excited to continue pushing toward our Steam Deck goals. Every update brings us one step closer to the experience we want to deliver.

🆕 Save slot system

If you want to finish your campaign using the previous save system, we’ve set up a new Steam beta branch called previoussavesystem.

This branch will load the last Steam build using the old save system, allowing you to finish your campaign at your own pace.

MAJOR CHANGES

🆕 New language translation: French, Ukrainian, Spanish (Spain), and Portuguese (Portugal)
🆕 Pike code rewritten for better accuracy during gameplay and during simulation
🆕 Pike "The Splitter" was reworked for better gameplay
🆕 3 new boss modifiers, one for Maulgore, one for Galvera, and one for Starchild
🆕 Sprites were optimized so the game build is smaller
🆕 New steam achievements connected to hut upgrades

FIXED

📌 Fixed events that occurred when Player returned to town could be skipped if Player exited to the menu, leading to many different bugs.
📌 Fixed Khepri Weaver Galvera’s mask that was missing during one of her attack
📌 In calculations weapon bonuses were not including stat changes from wounds
📌 Fixed how Galvera’s soul special jump could change its trajectory after recalculating other actions
📌 Fixed how some of the Royal tribe events could cause a crash if every character in town were Royal
📌 Fixed how lines that follow projectiles (bow and harpoon) were recalculated so they should work better now
📌 Added VFX to the destruction of Khepri Weaver Galvera’s Curse bullets
📌 Fixed how sometimes Archer shooting a frame after exiting Critical Point could lead to some visual bugs
📌 Many fixes to different bugs connected to loading fights that could lead to some differences after loading.
📌 Fixed behaviours of some enemy bullets like Vines, Spiders and Scarabs to be more consistent.

We're a small team operating with limited resources, but from the very beginning, our goal was one thing: to deliver the game in the best possible condition and continually develop it. That's why today we're revealing a few more cards.

First and foremost, thank you very much for participating in the beta. This update means we're exiting the beta phase and slowly preparing for release. However, we'd be incredibly grateful if you continued to let us know - on Discord or in the Steam discussions - about any bugs you find. We'll take a close look at every report. We can promise that!

Tarnished Blood Now -35% OFF

First, a quick reminder - Tarnished Blood is currently available with a seriously -35% OFF discount. What's more, the game is also available in two bundles, so if you were planning to grab this unique game for your library, now's a really good time.

Steam Deck - Full Playability

Tarnished Blood is compatible with Steam Deck and fully playable! If you noticed a yellow compatibility mark on our card, don't worry, it doesn't indicate any critical performance issues. Valve is mainly drawing your attention to the fact that in some places, the font we used may be less legible on small device screens.

Major Update + Demo Update

The most important news, however, is that the update has been released for both the full game and the demo (which we once again encourage you to check out, and give us a thumbs up).

Tarnished Blood Returns is our way of bringing the game back into the spotlight, dusting off the bones, and reminding everyone that this world under the Dome is still very much alive.

We want to make one thing clear! We are still actively working on Tarnished Blood. This project has never been abandoned, forgotten, or left to rot in the dark. We’ve been listening, fixing, improving, and planning what comes next.

Since launch, Tarnished Blood has remained in Early Access, where we’ve continued refining the experience together with the community, exactly as we intended from the start. From balance changes and bug fixes to broader improvements, your feedback has always mattered to us, and it still does.

What’s coming next?

We want to share a few things we’re seriously working toward in 2026:

The official Tarnished Blood OST is planned for 2026. The music deserves its own spotlight. Once the soundtrack is ready, we’re planning to make it available separately and prepare a cool bundle option for players who want to grab the game together with the OST.
We are seriously aiming to leave Early Access by the end of 2026. We want to be honest here - this is a very serious plan, but we’re not ready to make it a final binding promise just yet. We’ll confirm the exact timing once we’re fully sure we can deliver it at the quality level Tarnished Blood deserves.

For now, the mission stays the same: keep improving the game, keep listening to the community, and push Tarnished Blood toward the full release it was always meant to have.

Sorry for the long wait, we’ve finally finished most of the work on the next patch. To make sure the update is as bug-free as possible (especially to avoid any risk of corrupted saves) and since the Christmas period isn’t ideal for visibility, we’re releasing it on the Tarnished Blood beta branch.

To access right click Tarnished Blood in steam library, click properties, then Betas tab, add password “betabranchpassword”, click “Check Code”, and after that it should be selectable in “Beta Participation” dropdown box as shown on screenshot below:

🆕 Save slot system

We added 3 save slots to the game so that you can start a new campaign with different tribe without losing your current one.

Unfortunately, existing campaign saves are not compatible with the new save system.

Internal changes to how Pikes work make all Pikes created before this update unusable, and the introduction of the new Weight system along with the removal of Obsidian may also cause issues if an old campaign save is loaded.

If you really want to try using your old save, you can rename the save file from save_V1.dat to save_slot_1.dat in the AppData\\LocalLow\\Juggler Games\\Tarnished Blood\\Saves folder, but please do this at your own risk.

🆕Saving / Loading During Fights

We’ve added a new system that allows you to continue a battle from the point where you left off.

If you return to the main menu or quit the game during a fight, two options will now appear in the main menu:

Continue — resumes the fight from the start of the turn during which you exited.
Restart Battle — restarts the fight from the beginning (works the same as before the patch).

To make this possible, the game re-simulates all previously played turns and then resumes from the beginning of the turn where you left off.

We’ve done our best to catch bugs related to this kind of turn re-simulation, but these issues can be difficult to predict, even a small change in position or a single hit can cascade into significant differences in later turns. If you have any problems or bugs don’t hesitate to post them on steam forum or our discord (preferably with logs and your save file from AppData\\LocalLow\\Juggler Games\\Tarnished Blood folder).

🆕New Armor Weight System

Every piece of armor now has a Weight stat. Accumulating too much weight on a character will make them more sluggish in combat, reducing the effectiveness of their movement and jumps.

We’ve introduced this system to give individual armor pieces and sets more identity, and to make choosing between them a more tactical decision. It also makes certain support jump abilities, such as teleport or swap, more valuable, as they can help heavy, tank-oriented characters overcome their limited mobility.

This system also introduces new traumas, traits, and additional options in some events.

🆕Obsidian Chunk Removal

Obsidian Chunks were previously used only for hut upgrades, with roughly a 50% chance to obtain one after each battle. In theory, this system was meant to let players decide which upgrades to prioritize. In practice, however, upgrading the weapon crafter and the tannery to unlock weapon and armor upgrades was almost always the only meaningful choice. Other upgrades were nice to have, but rarely impactful enough to justify the effort. After completing a campaign, the same progression had to be unlocked again, usually starting with the tannery and weapon crafter all over.

Because of this, we’ve removed Obsidian Chunks and replaced the system with unlocks tied to new achievements. These are simple, progression-based achievements (for example, “craft X weapons in this hut”) that can be earned across multiple campaigns. Once unlocked, they remain permanently available for all future campaigns.

We hope this change gives players clearer long-term goals and provides a stronger sense of progression between campaigns.

🆕Two New Cutscenes

We’ve added two new cutscenes: one that plays after defeating the final boss with all tribes, and another that appears at the start of the game, right after the tutorial.

For now, they both use placeholder music. Our music producer is currently very busy ahead of Christmas, but we’ll add the final tracks as soon as they’re ready.

We added 3 save slots to the game so that you can start a new campaign with different tribes without losing your current one. If you had any campaign in progress before this update, when you load the game, the file should automatically be renamed and placed at slot 1.

Saving/Loading during fights

A new system that lets you continue mid-fight from the moment you left it. If you leave to the menu/quit the game during the fight, you will have 2 buttons in the main menu. One will let you restart the battle from the beginning (it works the same as before patch), and the other one will let you continue mid-fight from the turn when you left.
It will re-simulate all the turns you made and resume from the beginning of the turn you left it.
We tried to catch all the bugs connected to this type of turn re-simulation, but these are pretty hard to catch as even very little change in position or hit can cascade into huge changes to future turns.

New Weight Armor system

And after finishing one campaign you would need to unlock them once again (probably starting with tannery and weapon crafter).
This bothered Us so we changed it to being unlocked by new achievements. Those are pretty simple achievements like “craft X weapons in this hut” but they can be gained during multiple campaigns and once unlocked stay unlocked forever for every campaign.
We hope this will give something for players to aim for, and will give some feeling of progress between campaigns.

🆕 Additional Hovers on Equipment and Natural Born Trait with additional information like damage ranges
🆕 Visible Int/Mox when choosing from the list of whom to train in Survival Training
🆕 New action icon while using the Silver Feather item
🆕 If an enemy uses an action that tracks a player character, it is now shown by a special indicator around the tracked character. We implemented this to avoid the confusion that happens if you move the tracked character and, by doing so, endanger other characters in the future without knowledge. Examples of tracking actions are Maultigore Tongue Attack or Warden Pike Thrust.
🆕 Removed 4 limit to traits/traumas and limit for max player level. When we extend the campaign in the future, we will need to redesign the leveling system.
