Performance, Stability & General Optimisation Update
This update focuses primarily on improving performance, reducing unnecessary background processing, shortening menu delays, and making several gameplay and interface systems more reliable.
While many of these changes happen behind the scenes, they should help the game run more smoothly and reduce unnecessary pauses, repeated checks, and background operations.
MAJOR CHANGES
Extensive script optimisation
A large number of game scripts have been reviewed and updated so that they only perform checks when required, rather than continuously checking every frame.
Reduced unnecessary background processing
Several systems are now event-driven or timer-based. This reduces unnecessary processor usage and allows the game to spend more time handling gameplay, rendering, physics, and interface updates.
Improved scene loading
Several scene transitions now use more efficient loading methods to reduce freezing and delays when moving between levels and menus.
Improved Main Menu loading performance
The amount of object scanning, setup, file access, and repeated system initialisation performed when returning to the Main Menu has been reduced.
Improved level completion detection
Level completion now reacts more reliably when all required enemies or monsters have been defeated.
Reduced repeated object and component searches
Frequently accessed objects, cameras, components, methods, and references are now cached where possible instead of being repeatedly searched for.
Admin system optimisation
Admin-related systems have received a full optimisation pass, reducing unnecessary searches, repeated reflection calls, background checks, and interface allocations.
MEDIUM CHANGES
Improved Steam achievement checks
Achievement-related systems now perform timed or event-based checks instead of repeatedly checking achievement conditions every frame.
Improved score display updates
Score interface elements now update only when the player's score changes.
Improved reset-button checks
Reset buttons no longer repeatedly read save files every frame to determine whether they should be available.
Improved DLC detection
Expensive DLC-related object scanning has been reduced, and repeated status checks have been removed where they were unnecessary.
Improved persistent manager handling
Additional protections have been added to prevent duplicate persistent manager objects from being created when changing scenes.
Improved pause menu transitions
Pause menu scene transitions have been adjusted to reduce blocking and improve responsiveness.
Improved patch notes system
The patch notes system now avoids repeatedly scanning folders whenever the Main Menu loads.
Patch notes are now generated more gradually
Large patch note lists can now be built across multiple frames instead of generating every interface element at the same time.
Improved controller navigation checks
Unnecessary controller cursor and interface raycast checks have been reduced.
Improved level-flow handling
Level-loading fallback logic has been updated to help prevent incorrect, duplicate, or overlapping scene-loading requests.
SMALL CHANGES
Unnecessary PlayerPrefs save operations have been reduced during menu navigation and scene changes.
Additional protections have been added to prevent multiple scene-load requests from being triggered at the same time.
Menu text references are now cached more efficiently.
Camera references in bird-control scripts are now cached.
Temporary memory allocations created while displaying bird trajectories have been reduced.
Trajectory data is now reused instead of creating new arrays during repeated aiming updates.
Multiple bird-reset routines are prevented from running at the same time after repeated collisions.
Repeated save-system checks during level progression have been reduced.
Scripts now avoid running unnecessary gameplay logic while outside gameplay scenes.
Interface-related memory allocations have been reduced across several admin screens.
Repeated reflection-based method searches have been reduced.
Repeated hierarchy searches for frequently used objects have been reduced.
Duplicate GameController detection has been improved.
Persistent-object cleanup has been improved when duplicate managers are created.
Repeated debug output from background DLC systems has been reduced.
INSIGNIFICANT CHANGES
These changes are unlikely to be noticeable individually, but together they contribute to improved stability and reduced processing overhead.
Several redundant frame-by-frame condition checks have been removed.
Repeated string, component, and object lookups have been reduced.
Small temporary allocations caused by frequently running scripts have been reduced.
Internal references are now reused more consistently.
Unnecessary repeated status updates have been removed.
Unused menu processing has been reduced.
Unnecessary file and folder checks have been reduced.
Internal script organisation has been improved.
Additional safety checks have been added for missing references.
Protection against duplicate events and repeated callbacks has been improved.
Unnecessary debug logging has been reduced.
Handling of inactive objects during searches has been improved.
Several older object-search methods have been replaced with more efficient Unity 6 alternatives.
Additional static checks have been performed across all game scripts.
Existing script filenames and class names have been preserved to maintain compatibility with existing scenes, prefabs, and saved references.
ADDITIONAL NOTES
This update is primarily focused on optimisation and stability rather than introducing new content.
Players may notice shorter delays when returning to the Main Menu, smoother menu navigation, more reliable level completion, reduced background processor usage, fewer unnecessary frame-by-frame checks, more responsive scene transitions, and more consistent behaviour from persistent game systems.
Thank you for continuing to play and support the game. Additional fixes and improvements may be released as further issues are identified if necessary.
This update was not expected but Monster Knockout was left in an unoptimized state so we decided to give the players one big optimisation update to the game and worked hard for the last few months to do what's right for the game and players

Main Menu
Monsters now respawn in the main menu after knocking them out.
Added DLC pop up when you have purchased DLC (Only gets shown once)
Settings
V-Sync Toggle → Lock/unlock your frame rate for smoother visuals.
Expanded Monitor/Aspect Ratio Support → Added compatibility for more screen types, including:
16:10 → 1920x1200, 2880x1800
21:9 → 3440x1440, 2560x1080
24:10 → 3840x1600
32:9 → 5120x1440, 3840x1080
48:9 → 5760x1080, 7680x1440
Master Volume Slider → Control all audio with a single slider.
Added an option in Settings → Audio: “Use my selected track in all scenes”.
When enabled, the game will always play the track you choose in the music selector, regardless of what scene you enter.
When disabled, the game will play the scene-specific music if one is assigned (e.g., Main Menu theme, Level music, Credits music). If a scene has no assigned track, it falls back to your selected/default track.
Switching this option takes effect immediately — if you toggle it on mid-level, the current scene’s music is swapped for your chosen track.
Fullscreen now has 3 options to choose from:
Exclusive Fullscreen
Fullscreen window (borderless)
Windowed
The game window now displays the version in the title bar.
Added Safe Mode (launch with -safe).

What Is FMOD
Levels
- NOTE PROGRESS FOR THE LEVELS BEING UNLOCKED HAS HAD TO BE RESET -
Changed the way levels unlock and made it more reliable at unlocking.
Added a pop up to show you what levels have been unlocked.
Levels 75–100 have been redesigned and regenerated for smoother progression.
Pressing ESC now pauses the game, giving you quick access to menu options mid-level.
Added a "Settings" button in the pause menu (Shortcut to go to the Main Menu Settings Menu).
The score has now been encrypted. (Most old save should still work, to get the encrypted file please delete the gameData.json file and restart your game, all new players will not need to do this)
Level Editor
Added more objects for you to add to your levels.
Loaded Level Display → The editor now clearly shows which level is open.
Edit / Play Mode Toggle (F1) → Switch instantly between building and testing without leaving the editor.
Delete Key Support → Press DEL to quickly remove selected objects.
Ghost Previews → See a translucent preview of what you’re about to place before confirming.
Continuous Placement → Place multiple objects without re-selecting each time.
File Size Limit → Saves capped at 1 MB (~3000 boxes) to prevent performance issues.
Added a confirmation pop up if the file exceeds 1MB (Loading when pop up appears may cause lag or may crash your game. Mainly Happens If In Play Mode)
Loading Screen for Level Loads → Progress bar + status messages while loading JSON files. Warns if file size exceeds the limit.
Rotation Controls →
Q / E → Free rotation.
Z / X → Snap rotation in 15° increments.
Pick Tool (P) → Point at any object in the scene and press P to pick it, allowing you to place more copies instantly.
Multi-Select Tool →
Hold Shift + drag with your mouse to select multiple objects.
Move them as a group or delete them all at once with Shift + DEL.
State Capture / Restore → When you press F1 to enter Play mode, the editor takes a snapshot of your level.
Any changes you make during Play are not saved.
When you return to Edit mode, your level is restored exactly as you left it.
This prevents accidental data loss when testing your level.
Added Controls Button if you forget the controls there will always be quick access to it.

Settings now save correctly between sessions.
Updated the look of the volume sliders.
“How to Play” scene now loads properly.
Removed the HDR toggle.
Fixed refresh rate not applying correctly.
The music automatically mutes when the slider is at it's minimum value.
The Levels button now takes you to the updated levels screen (Shortcut to go to the Main Menu Levels Menu).
Removed all toggle to mute buttons in "Audio"
Levels 1–100
Trajectory line is now more accurate.
Fixed bird glitch where it would return to the start or not fire.
Ensured only one instance of the bird is active across all levels (1–100).
Level Editor
Boxes now stay in place (no more slowly sinking to the ground).
Placed objects are now attached to your mouse first for better placement control.
Updated “Clear Level” button for reliability.
Score is no longer tracked while using the Level Editor.
Monster Knockout Bounce DLC
Fixed incorrect button text: in MKB Day Mode the “Back” button was incorrectly labelled “Play”.
Monster Knockout Idle DLC:
Removed the big wall of text giving you all the cost, upgrades and businesses owned.
The save/load buttons have been made slightly smaller so they are harder to accidently click.
Made the scroll work again so you can get to other businesses.
Centred the "Money" button relative to the Money counter and Money Per Second counter.

This will be the last major update for Monster Knockout.
Patches, fixes, and polish updates will continue to roll out until April.
An announcement will be made on our social media when this period has ended, Keep an eye out for it.

We’re reaching out with an important notice about a recent Unity security issue that affected many Unity-built games, including Monster Knockout.
This post explains what happened, what we’ve done to protect you, and what (if anything) you need to do.
🔍 What Happened
Unity Technologies recently identified and disclosed a critical security vulnerability (CVE-2025-59489) in older versions of the Unity engine.
This issue could, under very specific circumstances, allow malicious code to run if a modified file or unsafe command argument was introduced to a Unity-based game.
👉 There is no evidence this exploit has ever been used in the wild.
Unity, Steam, and other major partners (Microsoft, Google, and Meta) took immediate action to secure the platform and protect players.
⚙️ What We’ve Done
✅ Upgraded Monster Knockout to the latest patched Unity version provided by Unity Technologies.
🔒 Verified that no player data, progress, or files were at risk.
🚀 Released a patched build on Steam — this update is now live and automatically applied when you launch or update the game.
🎮 What You Need to Do
No manual action is required. Steam will automatically download and install the latest version.
Avoid unofficial mods or third-party executables. As with any security fix, it’s best to only use trusted content.
🧠 What This Means
This was a platform-level issue, not a flaw in Monster Knockout itself.
Our game and player data were never compromised. The patch ensures that all Unity-based titles — including ours — remain safe and secure going forward.
Your saves, progress, and achievements are completely unaffected.
