To celebrate this, we’ve just released a big new update for A Webbing Journey, including the brand new Experimental Mode Settings that let you mess around with some wonderfully silly ways to play our game and as the name says, experiment with different settings too!
These settings are 100% experimental, so please enjoy them at your own risk haha. None of them are part of the core game and we’ve added them purely because we thought they’d be fun to play around with. They’re not balanced, they might break things, and that’s kind of the point! :)
If things get a little too chaotic, you can always switch back to the normal game settings.
Here are some highlights:
👀 Camera Mode - You can now switch between the default mode, a camera that is tilting with Silky's body, or even play from Silky’s POV!
🦘 Variable Jump Height - tap for a small hop, hold to jump higher!
🦀 Crab Mode - Silky’s body turns 90 degrees and you sidestep through the game!
🐛 Centipede Mode - a body of up to 32 segments trails behind the spider. This is the most broken setting here. So, don't be surprised if your body is doing weird stuff. 😅
🏃 Preserve Landing Speed - Gone are the days you are just stuck when landing. With this setting Silky keeps the speed runs it off over the next couple of seconds, which let's you jump again to keep your momentum.
⚽ Swing Ricochet - Instead of landing on object while you swing, with this setting you now bounce off and continue swinging through the level. There are some extra sliders to tweak this setting to your liking.
The update also includes a ton of smaller improvements and fixes, including a new accessibility setting (Screen Shake and Easy Magnetic Lock), improvements to water, movement and animations, and loads of fixes across the different levels.
In total, this update contains way too many changes to list them all here, because we know that you want to jump in and try them out.

Headline improvements
Performance across the board
Significant framerate improvements in every level, with the biggest gains in the busiest scenes (Kitchen, Living Room) where lots of objects and creatures are active at once.
More stable, more consistent framerate — fewer dips, less stutter, smoother overall play. Older and lower-end machines benefit the most, and higher-end rigs get extra headroom on top.
Lower memory usage while playing.
Smoother camera & web-aiming
The camera is now noticeably smoother, especially while swinging and in mid-air.
Web-aiming is now perfectly centered and jitter-free — the aiming reticle sits precisely where you're pointing and stays rock-steady, making it much easier to place webs exactly where you want them.
The camera, spider, and aiming are decoupled from the physics rate, so everything stays fluid even when the framerate fluctuates.
No more jitter
Fixed airborne jitter on the spider and its legs — jumping and swinging look clean and smooth now.
Movement and jump/swing feel is now consistent regardless of framerate.
Rock-solid physics
Fixed a long-standing bug that caused cables and chains to become unstable and thrash around. Cables, hanging lamps, and chains are now calm and stable.
Movable objects settle and come to rest properly instead of micro-jittering.
Smaller download
The game is meaningfully smaller to download and install.
More technical details
Framerate independence: Jumping, swinging, wind zones, the kids-room car-track boosters, balloons/rockets, and creature movement were all reworked so they behave identically no matter the framerate. Previously, some of these were subtly tied to performance.
Camera rework: The camera and aiming now update on the render loop rather than the physics loop, with proper interpolation. This is what eliminates the swing/mid-air jitter and keeps the reticle centered and steady.
Cable/chain fix: A scaling bug had been causing cable segments to constantly self-collide, making them unstable and expensive. Fixing it made cables stable and dramatically cheaper to simulate.
Physics settling: Objects now correctly go to sleep when at rest, removing both the micro-jitter and a constant background performance cost.
Broad optimization pass: Extensive rendering and draw-call optimization (shader consolidation, material batching, level-wide cleanup) plus reduced per-frame overhead on the spider and cooking systems. Much of this was originally driven by the mobile version, but the PC/Steam build gets all the same gains.

After countless hours of putting a lot of work and love into our first big game, we released A Webbing Journey exactly one year ago today, wild!! To celebrate that we also put the game on sale from today for 30% off!
Since Early Access launch we have:
Released 5 big updates, adding the Living Room level, Coin Detector, a Wardrobe update and more!
We received over 1,100 reviews, with a rating of 98% positive, wow, thank you!!
Attended 8 gaming events to exhibit A Webbing Journey

And we are of course not done yet!
We’re working very hard on the next update that will bring Steam Achievements to the game that should be ready soon! We’re also working hard on our next big level - the Hobby Room. In this level we want to try quite a few new things and are starting first internal testing on it. Because this level will be more experimental we are not quite sure when it will be ready but we can already say, this will be a really special one!

New Stuff 🌟
General:
Added carpet quality setting, which controls how many layers of the carpet are rendered. Minimum is 1, and maximum is 32. Everybody who is having FPS issues near the carpet should try out this setting. It’s in the gameplay panel at the moment, but will be moved to graphics once we implement scrolling for the settings panels.
Hub:
Connected the remote control in the hub with the rocket and ceiling fan.
Office:
Implemented LODs for trash can, stapler, and wall calendar
Kids Room:
Implemented LODs for phone toy, abacus, barrel, hayroll, scarecrow, board game, small cart, wind wheel, kids piano and jigsaw puzzle pieces
Living Room:
Added room borders for the screensaver logo, so it can bounce around the room after leaving the TV
Used the current web color and texture for the screensaver logo when it’s spawned
Used the second remote in the level to control the speed of the screensaver logos and to destroy the last spawned logo
Improvements 🚀
Living Room:
Made the plus and minus buttons holdable when changing the TV volume, screensaver size, and speed
Made it possible to change speed and size for individual screensaver logos
Doubled the burn duration for the firewood logs from 2 minutes to 4 minutes, making it easier to get the water orb there before the wood is burned up
Bug Fixes 🐞
General:
Fix floating plants in various levels.

New Stuff 🌟
General:
Added a new cheat command “SpawnGooglyEye [size]” to spawn googly eyes in the sandbox mode. Size has a range from 30 to 300, with 100 being the default size.
Living Room:
Made it possible to spawn multiple screensaver logos for the TV by pressing the play button on the remote.
Added options to change the screensaver logo size by pressing the plus and minus buttons on the remote.
Added sound effects for the buttons at the end of the ancient drawing quest.
Improvements 🚀
General:
Reduced game size by compressing textures.
Living Room:
Added arrows to the aquarium faucet cap to indicate that it can be moved.
Bug Fixes 🐞
General:
Fixed wrong NPC names in dialogues.
Kitchen:
Fixed decorate the Christmas tree task. It should now be correctly marked as finished again once you put the star on the top.

Before we officially release the Living Room, we’re opening the doors a little early.
We’re hosting a public playtest for the brand new level of A Webbing Journey - and you’re invited. The Living Room brings 10 new quests, tons of interactions, a fully playable grand piano, a TV, movies, a shimmering aquarium, new great music, vacuum chaos, and more shmoops than strictly necessary.
This is your chance to jump in early, explore, break things, and help us polish the level before release.
How to join the public test:
So to get involved with the public test, you will have to already have bought the game and then simply follow these instructions:
Right-click on A Webbing Journey in your library
Select ‘Properties’
Click on ‘Game versions and Betas’
Select the public_test branch from the dropdown menu in the top-right corner
Wait for Steam to download the update
Boot up the game.
If your game is showing version 0.14.0, you are on the correct branch and ready to test.
Once you’ve played, please leave all of your feedback in our Discord.
Your input directly shapes the final version.

The latest Wardrobe and Outfit Update brought some bugs with it. So here's a quick patch to get rid of them, but we also added some new features.
New Stuff 🌟
General:
Implemented additional parameters for all cosmetic items to change their size, position, and orientation for maximum customizability.
Added a toggle to disable the spider body to create more fun outfits, like turning into a shmoop by placing the shmoop hat as the body.
Implemented a sanity check for old outfits so they don't break with this or any future updates.
Replaced the "No Eyes" that are unlocked in the Kids Room with "Minus Eyes". Since all eyes can now be disabled, there was no reason to keep the "No Eyes" anymore. Have fun with an extra pair of eyes.
Improvements 🚀
General:
Implemented a proper system for burning the spider and the cosmetic items, which means everything, except the eyes, should turn black now. Plus, NPCs can now also be burned.
Moved the default outfit button to the end of the outfits list to prevent accidental clicks when pressing the save outfit button.
Positioned the colors for all cosmetic items and eyes horizontally to have more space for effects.
Implemented new sliders in the Wardrobe with increased granularity for more precise customization when using a keyboard or gamepad.
Bug Fixes 🐞
General:
Updated tab menus and fixed broken navigation in Pause Menu.
Fixed the effects for the Astronaut helmet.
Fixed an error when opening the empty wardrobe list.
Fixed an issue that caused the right stick on gamepads to be used for navigating the UI.
Added missing localization for Wardrobe UI.
Kids Room:
Fixed an issue that caused the Kids Room radio to continue playing when leaving the level.

We wanted to celebrate December with a nice little treat for Silky, so it’s time for a new update! The Wardrobe and Outfit Update is officially live and it’s packed with brand-new ways to customize your favourite eight-legged chaos friend 🖤
The wardrobe got a big re-work: it’s got a UI pass and looks different now, and has way more customization options than before! You can now choose colors with a full color picker, tweak effects for cosmetic items and now there is an option to switch off legs (lol) and more. You can even use different colors for the different leg and joint segments.
Also a cool new feature: can now save your outfits and swap between them whenever you like, fashion on demand!

Aside from that we are working hard on the next level for A Webbing Journey, we’re in the final steps of updating the mobile version to bring it on par with the steam version and are cooking up more surprises for the next year :)

Added a special siren sound to the toy cars (because someone really wanted that wee woo, wee woo 😉) - Only works if you stand on the car
Added satisfying keyboard click sounds when walking over keyboards in the Office level
Updated new silverware sounds in the Kitchen for extra shine and clink

We are calling all our friends to playtest the beta version of our first update! We need your expertise to find any bugs Silky missed, check that it all runs smoothly, and most importantly, to make sure that you have fun with it!
This update includes:
🕸️Level saving for the sandbox mode
This means your webs and all objects you can interact with are saved for all 6 sandbox levels in the game.
We’ve been really hard at work on this first update for a while now (which will be with you soon, we promise 🤞) and we’re sorry for the delay. Development is rarely smooth sailing.
So we appreciate you all being so patient. To show our appreciation, we may even leave a little surprise in this update for you all once the update is ready to go public… 🤭
How to join the public test:
