The 1.8 Major Update is here, bringing new features, gameplay improvements, stability fixes, and plenty of changes across the battlefield. We're also excited to announce that Arma Reforger is now available on the Microsoft Store with Xbox Play Anywhere support, allowing you to play across Xbox consoles and Windows PC with a single digital purchase.

Far Hiding and Concealment
One of the biggest additions in 1.8 is the first iteration of our new Far Hide system, designed to address situations where players hiding in grass at long distances would leave you completely exposed to enemy snipers. Turns out, lying perfectly still in a field isn't much help when the field disappears.
Far Hide helps conceal distant characters against areas covered by grass, so lying in a field should no longer make you stick out like a sore thumb to someone watching from 750 meters away. There may still be some tweaks we would like to make as we continue developing this feature, but we hope this first implementation helps reduce the advantage players had from vegetation no longer rendering at longer distances or when lowering graphics settings.
Concealment is also becoming more important when fighting AI. Grass and camo nets can now obstruct AI vision, making vegetation and camouflage more useful for breaking line of sight. AI should have a harder time spotting and tracking players now.
Specialists Get the Job Done
Your role within a squad now matters! In 1.8, several specialist roles gain advantages when performing job-related tasks, hopefully giving your Medic more purpose than before.
Medics can inspect and treat wounded soldiers faster and load casualties into vehicles. Logistics personnel can load and unload supplies faster, while vehicle crews can repair, rearm, and refuel vehicles more quickly. Engineers also receive faster construction speeds when building structures or deployables.
Speaking of building, field fortification has also received some quality-of-life improvements. You no longer need to throw an entire collection of sandbags onto the ground before constructing something (like sandbags). Having one available to begin deployment is enough, with the remaining required items taken directly from your inventory.
Players can also now deploy razor wire themselves, giving engineers another tool for blocking points or funneling infantry into more favorable ambushes. The PKMN can now be deployed on the 6T5 tripod, with or without the 1P29 optic.
Smoke and Signals
We've added more options for communicating and coordinating without saying a word. New tactical gesture animations provide additional ways to communicate visually with teammates, as well as more casual loiter animations that give you something to do during the calm of battle. Sit down, do some pushups, or take a moment for a smoke before everything inevitably goes wrong again.
The US Army also receives underbarrel smoke grenades in several colors, giving grenadiers another way to screen movement or mark locations. Smoke mortar rounds have also been adjusted to remain effective for longer, making mortar-deployed smoke a more umore useful option for covering an assault, or at the very least making everyone less certain about what they're actually shooting at.
More Improvements and Changes
There are plenty of other additions and improvements included with 1.8. Here are a few more worth highlighting:
Running around without boots can now damage your feet and carries a small chance of causing your character to stumble and fall. So maybe think twice before charging barefoot across Everon.
Dying now costs 30 rank progression points, giving you another reason to value your life beyond the long walk back from spawn. Deaths caused by friendly fire will not penalize the victim's rank progression, and dying will not cause a player to become a Renegade.
Admins can teleport their camera directly to players and promote or demote players through the Player List.
MOB construction is no longer prevented simply by the presence of nearby enemies. So being shot at is no longer considered a valid excuse to stop building.
And finally, as always, we've implemented an array of new crash fixes, memory and pathfinding improvements, VoN updates, and other optimizations. Not the flashiest part of an update, but your PC or console will probably appreciate it. Of course, we've introduced more fixes and optimizations than we could reasonably cover here, so if you want, you can read the full list in the 1.8 Update changelog.
We hope you enjoy this set of new additions and improvements. Our work is not done, and we will continue releasing patches and updates over the coming weeks and months.
Features will continue to be refined, bugs will be fixed, and community feedback remains an important part of helping us identify issues and improve the game. Please report any feedback you might have through the Feedback Tracker.

Arma: Cold War Assault Remastered is not a remake or redesign. It is a preservation-focused remaster of the original game, built around a modernized version of the classic Poseidon engine.
The original islands, models, textures, sounds, music, missions, campaigns, and voiceovers have all been preserved. The goal is to keep the experience authentic to the original while improving how the game runs, displays, hosts, and supports community content on current hardware.
Key improvements include:

Important Notes:
Arma: Cold War Assault Remastered is installed alongside the classic version and does not replace it. The original Steam version remains available and unchanged, with its own files, profiles, savegames, configuration, and mod workflows.
Classic savegames are not compatible with the remastered version, as the remaster uses separate profile and configuration data. Multiplayer is also separate from the classic version. Remastered clients cannot connect to classic servers, and classic clients cannot connect to remastered servers.

Base Contesting and Capturing Changes
Base capturing was previously set up for two factions, and it was necessary to rework it to provide better player feedback. A new state has been added: Contesting.
The core of capturing is still identical. Have more friendly characters in the capture zone than the opposing factions to start the process. The in-between state is what has changed.
If the defenders are outnumbered and no capture is occurring, the base will change to a "contested" state.
A capture can be prevented (and so contested will happen) due to
FIA (who is unable to capture entirely)
The factions fighting over the point being equal in number
Either of the major factions trying to capture without a radio connection
When a base is contested, defenders are unable to spawn on the base for as long as it remains contested. This is shown on the map with a soft red glow around the base.
Though this is a "nerf" to defenders for spawning, they now get more information to work with.
It should balance out for enemies being present in backline bases, as it shows you when bases are being messed with while still not allowing spawning on "hot" frontline bases.

Playable Content
Added: Base capturing has a new "contested" state, serving as an in-between state. It occurs when the defenders are outnumbered, but a capture is not possible.
Added: Contested state prevents spawning on a contested base and appears on the map. Preventing players from spawning in active warzones, but also giving information in case of backline sabotage.
Added: Move closer popup added for an enemy capturing or contesting a base.
Changed: Players will be unable to drop supplies on the ground from containers controlled by the enemy faction. This does not apply to harbors and preplaced caches
Changed: Renegade faction forces solo groups on people turning renegade to avoid issues with nametags and group text communication.

The FIA has become a playable third faction in Arma Reforger Conflict scenarios. Playing as FIA is not for the unprepared, though. You will be outnumbered, outgunned, thrown into the world with minimal equipment, and with no clear task ahead. How you choose to approach the conflicts of two world superpowers as an underequipped partisan is entirely up to you. It will not be an easy fight!

Playable FIA
The islands of Everon, Arland, and Kolguyev make up an unforgiving battlefield between the US and USSR armies, with you as a guerrilla in the middle. So, get yourself prepared for the battle ahead. You spawn with just a pistol, a spare magazine, and a "shopping list." It is a guide that will lead you to hidden equipment caches at random locations. Keep your shopping list with you and protect it. Should it fall into the hands of the enemy, you might just find an unwanted surprise at your next cache visit.
Hidden FIA equipment caches give you a wide selection of gear to prepare yourself. Uniforms, vests, weapons, ammunition, mines, medical items, crew weapons, and deployable tents. But as with everything in Arma Reforger Conflict, supplies are a vital resource that allows you to use whatever gear you need. Keep your hidden arsenals supplied for yourself and for your comrades whenever you can. Otherwise, you might need to rely on enemy bases for usable loot.
FIA spawns are randomized after the islands have been overrun by US and USSR troops. To make your cause easier for yourself, deploy secret hideouts using the tents obtainable from the hidden arsenal boxes. These hideouts let you spawn anywhere on the battlefield so long as you keep them stocked up on supplies. Hide them well; they might be your only way of keeping your friendlies together.
For any US and USSR troops, traversing the warzones of Arma Reforger has just become a different challenge. From now on, you can never be sure if the FIA enemy manning a checkpoint on your way to the nearest objective is now a real player or not. Stay vigilant, don't get complacent, and stay in the fight!
More Improvements and Changes
Driving has been overhauled with adjustments to vehicle weights, suspension heights, torque, and other parameters to bring the final state to a more realistic standard. We understand this might be a divisive topic with various preferences. We plan to keep tweaking the vehicle simulation until we get it right. Feel free to leave your thoughts and experiences using our new Feedback Tracker.
Reconnect Queue has been added to mitigate a previously prevalent "SERVER_FULL" issue. This occurred when players tried to join servers while others were reconnecting at the same time, costing them their allocated server slot. Now you might be placed in a new queue designed to avoid clashes between joining and reconnecting players. It is a separate queue from the main queue, and it may occur even when the player numbers haven't reached the maximum allowed number. The Reconnect Queue should not take longer than one or two minutes.
Here are some other notable changes to gameplay:
Strafing inertia - Side-to-side character movement has been adjusted to mitigate "strafe spamming" in firefights.
Bush slowdown - Characters are no longer able to sprint through bushes as if they don't exist. Thick vegetation slows you down now.
Improved vehicle unflipping - Repair trucks parked near flipped vehicles reduce the number of players needed to unflip such a vehicle to one. This way, you can get your BTR, transport truck, or Buchanka back on the road all on your own.
Mod storage - Xbox players can now utilize up to 50 GB of storage space for mods on their consoles.
Mod uploads - Workbench uploads to the Workshop are now split into smaller chunks, improving uploads and significantly reducing errors.
Destructible razor wire - Players can now use bayonet-equipped rifles to destroy razor wire emplacements.

Some features and tweaks in 1.7 will continue to be adjusted in future updates. We are releasing 1.7 now to address many of the crashes introduced in 1.6 and to enable modders to more reliably upload their mods. We consider these improvements, along with many other changes in 1.7, significant enough to release this version to the main application.
Our work is not done, and we will be releasing further patches and updates over the next weeks and months. Features will be refined, bugs will be fixed, and we always appreciate community feedback to help us identify issues. Please report any feedback you might have to the Feedback Tracker.
