Coming right at ya is yet another Fleapit devlog where we drag you kicking and screaming through the depths of development hell (or rather Inferno) and show all the exciting stuff (that we can show at this point in time)!

As per usual, the biggest bulk of the work we’ve been doing these last couple of months has been focused on behind-the-scenes stuff – but we’re making steady progress, pinky promise!!

That said, let’s dive into the nitty gritty, shall we?

UPKEEPING THE OLD STUFF

Turns out working on a game breeds… even more game. Thankfully, at this point we’re more that ever aware that polishing things into perfection isn’t exactly the way to go, but making additional touches here and there won’t hurt anybody.

Like, for example, here’s a new cute little sprite for Ruby’s speech during the opening cutscene:

of course its Ruby breaking the 4th wall, who else?

GLITCHES NO GLITCHING

One of the more requested things from the previous demo was to remove the visual glitches during dungeon crawling. So we did exactly that…and also added an option to have even more visual glitches, should you choose to do so.

For reference, we believe that the Full glitches option represents our vision for Fleapit’s chaotic visuals, but we don’t wanna ruin anyone’s personal experience, so feel free to turn them down!

HOT DEMON LADY WITH NO CONTEXT

It’s that time of the year again! The Freaked Fleapit roster of characters is growing with its development and it’s always fun to just show you the concept arts with no context whatsoever.

Even though you don’t know her just yet, we know you’re gonna grow to love her… eventually~

We may have skipped a month or two of these devlogs, hope that was just about enough time for you to start missing us a little bit!

Truth be told, we had to go slower than usual this last month due to quite a few team members getting sick (including me, who writes this very text lol), but we’re very much back in action and today we’re gonna make it up to you with quite a few gameplay bits from the upcoming New And Improved Steam Demo that we’ve been talking a lot in the past.

So let’s get the show rolling, shall we?

New Traps, New Foes

For starters, we can finally show more enemies that will torture your existence in the upcoming updated demo!

As you might recall, we promised to extend each Circle of Hell with subfloors – with each one containing a few exclusive demons that get progressively harder the deeper you go! This time around we’re going to focus on Limbo exclusively, so stay tuned for the next episode to see more, ok?~

MIMIC

Ah, the FromSoft classic! Some of the props around Limbo contain pesky Mimics which will emerge as soon as you approach them, so keep an eye out for this pair of eyes and maybe tone down the aggression towards the surrounding furniture, just in case.

COFFEE MANIAC

Surely this much coffee can’t be good for you? Well, Coffee Maniac seems to disagree – as long as a coffee machine is nearby, he’s literally unkillable. Without his fuel, however, he’s quite vulnerable, so you better dart across the room and de-coffee-fy it before finishing the poor sod off!

BOOKKEEPER

Watch your steps cuz it’s raining books! These nerdy demons prefer to take cover in the most annoying parts of any given room and support the main cast of enemies with projectiles that will keep you on the move. Imagine being sandwiched in a room between a bookkeeper and a coffee maniac and you’re in for a fun time~

Of course, there’s even more demons we didn’t mention so far – but you’ll have to see them for yourselves. It wouldn’t be fun to spoil everything after all, right?

More Items = More Fun

One of the things that was highly requested after the first demo were more impactful items. Ask and you shall receive, dear Guests of the Fleapit!

First of all, the random pick ups are categorized as ‘items’ and ‘skills’: the former ones being one-time use and latter recharging after a certain number of rooms is successfully cleared.

Let’s go over a couple of examples together, shall we?

GARLIC BREATH

A one-time use item that is all about dealing AoE damage in a massive radius. Just find a few suitable targets and deploy the stench that makes even the toughest demons suffer!

PURE SIN

This one’s trickier to use, but the potential for carnage is endless! Once you use a bottle of Pure Sin, you will have poisonous puddles appear underneath Newbie for a few beats and if you can predict where the enemies will be or if a lot of them are chasing you, this is a perfect recipe for quickly thinning the enemy ranks!

Special Quests

You didn’t think your visits to Circles of Hell are some kind of one and done thing, did you? Throughout your journey, Ladies of Fleapit will have requests for you – sometimes in the lobby, other times right in the dungeon.

Complete them and get the ultimate reward – the affection of a demon girl!

Quick Fleapit Trivia Bit: Diffusion Crystals

One of the most important and incredibly scarce resources of Inferno as it allows the Freaked Fleapit to be in a stable state and not descend into complete chaos. Also used by the Lords of Hell to stabilize their offices. The production of the crystals is kept a closely guarded secret so that they will always be valuable.

And that’s where we’ll hit the brakes and stop today’s devlog! We still have much to show, but we don’t want to give away everything just yet, so make sure to come by next month to see what else we got for ya!

In one of our previous devlogs we mentioned Thales, a literal encyclopedia about the whole of Inferno found in the depths of Limbo.

Well, we can now also reveal that he’s gonna be your one and only database of all things Fleapit! All the relevant info about perks, items and enemies will be meticulously stored within this extremely arrogant (and extremely horny) book, so better get used to this insufferable nerd while you can!

G L U T T O N Y

Just some of the potential little chefs you’re about to meet at the Circle of Gluttony

Ah yes, kiddo, this ain’t no “hole in the wall” restaurant nor a cheap noodle place you liked so much in your life. This is high cuisine, an establishment that screams “spectacular opulence” in your flustered face as you come in.

Ever been in those restaurants that you feel like you don’t even deserve to be in? Well, you are in one now and the sheer feeling of grandioseness is almost impenetrable. The greatest restaurant in all Inferno, or hell, even the whole wide world.

The Circle Of Gluttony.

So what are we waiting for? Sit down, grab a menu and call a waiter cuz…

Wait, you didn’t really think that you would be getting a chance to feast in such a luxurious place for the rest of eternity, did you? Oh, I see. Excuse me for a moment.

AHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHHAHA

Hell no, kiddo, if you are a sinner, you aren’t getting a fancy seat at the classy table. You’re the one getting served.

Metaphorically, of course. You see, hunger turned out to be a pretty potent source of Sin, especially in more, ahem, greedier residents of Gluttony. So the only source of food you’ll ever get is the disgusting poisonous juice that will only make you hungrier in perpetuity.

Bottoms up, maybe this next drink will make the ever growing emptiness go away.

You might be wondering, if all this luxury is kind of unnecessary and the cake is a lie, just *who* is this place for? The only one who gets to bask in the glory of this own creation is the master of this Circle of Hell, the most vain and gluttonous demon of them all…

THE SOMMELIER

In parallel universes he might as well could have been the Master of Circles of Pride or Greed, or maybe even Wrath – but the sheer excess of everything he does and lives for made him a perfect vessel for leading the Circle of Gluttony.

Underneath his pretty face lies a sadistic and hysterical monster that can never be truly satiated. Or rather, two monsters – one demon and one especially nasty parasite which co-exist in an extremely perverted mutually symbiotic relationship.

Throughout the eternity of leading the Circle of Gluttony, there’s only one thing that The Sommelier hasn’t gotten a taste of – a pure soul. Because, you know, those don’t ever get to Inferno.

So you better brace yourself, kiddo. There’s not a lot of things this bastard won’t do to get his hands on the best meal of his lifetime.

But thankfully we don’t have to face him just yet, so let’s wrap this up before the waiters arrive and move somewhere safe. We’ll continue next time at the Circle of Greed, so make sure to save some money till then, okay?

So grab your forks and knives and let’s dig in!

NEW ENEMIES

We’ll be talking more in-depth about the inner workings of the Circle of Hell — Gluttony in one of the future devlogs, but for now we can reveal that it’s gonna be set in the Greatest Restaurant of all Inferno.

And the staff won’t be happy to see its eternal feast interrupted.

Get ready to have your navigational skills tested: from lots of traps to enemies that can directly interact with your tie. It’s ‘Eat Or Be Eaten’ in this world, after all.

NEW MUSIC

A lot of you were asking for more music teasers, so today we want to try something new and give y’all a little sneak peek of one of the music tracks for the third Circle of Hell provided to us by magnificent menaces at Magnetude!

We’ve been talking about the Ladies of the Fleapit quite a lot and we saved the best for last! ‘Best’ being of course the story of everyone’s favorite mommy, Sister June. So polish your halos, spread your wings and let’s dive straight into it, shall we?

‘Did you fall from Heaven?’ isn’t really a pick-up line for Sister June, because she really is an actual angel. And a real outlier in the whole demonic cast of Freaked Fleapit characters. I mean, aren’t angels and demons supposed to hate each other's guts and have a Great War between them?

Well, a long, long time ago they did. And the fearsome Noble Sister June, Warrior of Fire and Light, the commander of the Hand of Justice Squad was a name to be reckoned with. She may seem almost too gentle and harmless nowadays, but back then if you were a demon and you crossed her path — I’m afraid you wouldn’t get much mercy from her.

That same righteous fury became her downfall.

During one of the operations, Noble Sister June’s squad encountered The Angel Slayer — a monster who annihilated countless of their brothers and sisters. Lucifer's mightiest warrior. And he’s all alone here, a perfect opportunity to strike while he’s vulnerable.

The higher command ordered them to retreat immediately. June didn’t listen. Today was the day The Angel Slayer is gonna fall, and Justice will prevail. Maybe this was the opportunity to end this war once and for all and Sister June didn’t come this far just to run away. And so they began the attack…

…all according to the Angel Slayer’s plan.

The Hand of Justice Squad was no more. Except for the disgraced commander, Noble Sister June, Warrior of Fire and Light. She put up one hell of a fight, a duel that could end up in legends if there was anyone else alive left to tell. A final battle of Heaven and Inferno.

But alas, we shall never know who would’ve won in that fight. The Great War between Heaven and Inferno was over right in the middle of that fateful duel. The decisive battle was all for naught.

If only June obeyed the orders, so many angels would’ve lived another day. And the higher command made sure to make her remember that forever.

“But wait”, you may ask, “That doesn’t explain how Sister June ended up in Freaked Fleapit with her sworn enemies!” And that, dear guests of Fleapit, is reaching the spoilers territory of biblical proportions, so we’ll have to wrap up right here in fear of telling you too much.

We hope you enjoyed a glimpse into Sister June’s past and appreciate her on a whole nother level — as both a motherly figure and a mighty warrior!

EXPANDING THE INFERNO

One of the most often requested feedback we received from our demo was ‘please make longer levels’. And while we’ve already committed to make every Circle of Hell longer with three increasingly difficult levels, we want to make each one of them feel somewhat unique.

Thus, we’re working on creating special tiles for each zone that would feel more thematically appropriate and help us convey the storyline of each Circle of Hell!

Like, check out one of the deeper rooms of Limbo below (with a brand new enemy teaser haha)

And to clarify: it’s not just about the floor, but most of the props, including the posters on the walls (hope you’ve been paying attention to these btw)

HERE COMES A NEW CHALLENGER!

Last time we introduced our brand new Shopkeeper and today we want to continue the tradition and share the sprite work for yet another character currently in works at the Fleapit HQ.

You’ll get to know him closer once the time comes, but for now please enjoy this first look at our Very Imposing Minotaur-man 👀

NEW EMOTIONS UNLOCKED!

As the Fleapit script evolves, it requires more specific emotions from our characters than just default ‘sad/happy’ faces, so not unlike Inside Out 2 we’re unlocking new sprites for emotions when the scenes demand so,

And there’s one emotion in particular we’d like to share today!

WITNESS: RUBY. WITH. PUFFY. CHEEKS.

Was this one heavily inspired by Fern from Frieren? Who knows, you won’t prove anything . . .

Anyway, moving onto the next topic!

And of course we won’t leave y’all without any perk concepts that we’ve been working on! Introducing two new perks, code named Dango and Gold Rush respectively:

FLEAPIT’S QUICK TRIVIA BIT: INFERNO’S GASTRO CULTURE

Since Inferno is essentially a scorched wasteland (except for Hell City, that is), all food is synthetic and created from processed sin. Therefore, real meat, alcohol, etc. are highly valued in Inferno.

So better be grateful for having Bellboy at the Fleapit, ya jerk!

Alright, well. That was… something! Anyway, Ruby is truly unique. She gets away with things that would otherwise result in severe punishment, exile, or even death. Maybe it’s all because of her mad cooking skillz. No one is as obsessed with anything food as Ruby, she’ll get your soul aching with just a faint smell of her favorite cake, and when you taste it… uhhh boy, you’re in for a trip! The amount of weird happenings ever so present in Freaked Fleapit sky-rocketed with the arrival of Ruby. There’s something mysterious about it. Almost… diaboli ex machina so to speak.

Egh, we mean, it’s totally normal. Like, it is Netherworld after all. So, instead of cracking that riddle, let’s take a better look at what happens at the Freaked Fleapit behind closed doors!
Surely, members of Freaked Fleapit do have a touch of dysfunctional family dynamics, but Ruby loves everyone oh so dearly! Bellboy and Fasaria are like sisters to her. Bell is more of an older wise one, always here to protect, support and teach. Fas is a younger one, still finding herself.

Don’t be misled by her constant teasing of little Keyla, she has nothing but a soft spot for her, especially her thick fluffy tail, it’s just… Ruby doesn’t really understand how personal boundaries work. Oh, and Sister June? What a better mother figure than an angelic strict mistress, am I right?~ Aaand after a long day our little ruffian finds great comfort in chatting with Blabbing Betty, though it might look like she talks to herself, Ruby insists she can hear Betty’s thoughts.

That being said, there’s no time to waste basking in the afterglow for us. There’s still much to do based on both our original development plans and your demo feedback, so let’s get right into it!

WHAT’S NEXT FOR THE DEMO

Honestly, not much. We’ve worked up some quick bug fixes and we just added the Russian VO, but we’re now focusing on the Next Big Thing and, truthfully, we just don’t have the resources to also keep polishing this little demo further and further.

We want to take a moment to restate how invaluable , and precious your feedback has been, and how incredibly thankful we are. We’re also extra excited to share that all that feedback will be implemented in…

ANOTHER NEW FLEAPIT DEMO..?!

5 dates with branching dialogue set in different locations
The complete first 2 circles of Hell but this time bolder, bigger and more fun!
Various mini-games including mixology, bowling, and more

But that’s not all!

Thanks to all the amazing feedback we got from this first demo, we’ll be able to add some of your suggestions in as well to hopefully make this a somewhat complete experience that we’ll proceed with moving forward!

We can’t promise a hard date for this next big demo thingy yet, but we are working like Hell and are hopeful it won’t take nearly as long as this last one!

And now, since we mentioned more fleshed out roguelite elements, allow us to introduce…

THE SHOPKEEPER

It wouldn’t really be a roguelite if you can’t buy any items from a suspicious-looking merchant deep in a dungeon somewhere, would it? And since this is one of the latest characters we designed for Fleapit, we decided to share how he came to life from earlier concepts to the complete sprites.

It all begins with an idea. We decided that our Shopkeeper should be a powerful, intimidating, and mostly stationary figure early on, but it took a lot of fine tuning with details to settle on like ‘should this even be a living creature’ or ‘what the insides of his coat should look like’.

And after a lot of consideration and heated debates (which included pointing at the Fleapit lore document quite a bit) we landed on this guy:

What are ya buyin’?

Okay, so now we have a dialogue sprite for the Shopkeeper, but the work doesn’t end here. In fact, now we’re getting to the interesting part — how do we make this fellow look good in pixel art?

A lot of you were curious about our pixel art process, so we’ll let you on a little secret: the concept art for chibi-pixel versions of characters is also being done by our lead artist Mr. Psina. And here’s what the Shopkeeper looked like - chibified:

Once we settled on this design, our beloved pixel artist Todo takes over, works his own personal magic, it all comes together!

Bear witness for the Shopkeeper has come to life at last!

We can’t wait for you to meet him in person! Trust us, he’s a lovely individual, even if he’s stingy as all hell. Anyways, moving on!

In today’s edition of ‘Perks teasers’ we have a couple of those that we internally affectionately call ‘Andy gets absolutely decimated’ and both of these, as you’ve probably guessed, have something to do with Newbie losing HP.

While we don’t intend a ‘get hurt a lot’ playstyle to be viable, these might be helpful for those players who are new to the rhythm dungeon crawling and have occasional troubles with getting down the specific patterns and stuff. And you’ll see these, you guessed it, in the Next Steam Demo.

FLEAPIT’S QUICK TRIVIA BIT: REAPERS

Reapers reap (duh) and transport the shells of souls between the four worlds:
World of the Living -> Inferno -> Heaven -> Ministry of Death.

All Reapers were once people who indirectly worked with death: undertakers, pathologists, death priests, etc. Wonder what made Fasaria become one.

However, we have to set some expectations here. While we’re confident that you’re going to enjoy this short look at the game, we also have to emphasize that it’s only The First Look. And here’s exactly what it’s going to contain:

A peek at the beginning of Newbie’s journey!
Two levels to dance through — complete with boss fights at the end!
Voice over — you saw our Japanese VO cast, but the demo will also include English VO as well! And it’s good! Word!!!
Personal quests for the girls — after you finish the 1st level, you can take a unique quest from each of the girls. However, you have enough energy to get two of those during one playthrough, so choose wisely! You will be rewarded with a cute mini-date and a CG if you manage to complete the quest!

And here are all the languages that the First Look Demo is going to support:

THE BOTTOMLESS PITS

Every game worth its salt must have bottomless pits… or at least that’s the case for the Fleapit. A lot of players were wondering if they could fall into the pits found everywhere across the dungeon crawling section and were (apparently) disappointed when that wasn’t the case.

Well, congrats y'all, because we’re granting your wish to yeet yourselves into the void. Better watch your steps now cuz one wrong jump could become your doom (or take 1HP away from you, to be precise)

This is yet to be implemented in the actual build, so please enjoy this new enemy pattern with a placeholder sprite and a sneaky mini-map on the right

HERE COME THE NEW CHALLENGERS

Speaking of more enemies: The Circles of Hell are chock full of all manner of dangerous creatures, and we captured got a few of those we can show off today!

Introducing the new demons straight from the deeper layers of Limbo: Bookworm, Coffee Maniac, and Archigoat! Feel free to speculate what their attack patterns are gonna be like, and what other demons might lurk deep within the Bureaucratic Inferno.

NEW PERKS & SKILLS

But that’s not all! We recently finished outlining some of the new perks and skills that you’ll encounter later in the game, and we can even tease what a couple of them will do:

Card Shark: Get one extra perk to choose from a chest
Barmaid’s Special: If Andy has all three types of HP, deal 150% more damage

We’ll be showcasing more of these in future devlogs, so stay stoked, and stay tuned for that!! Until then, feel free to throw your suggestions our way and maybe they might make it into the game . . .

Glad to have you with us again - not that you can really leave or anything but! As promised, we’re gonna talk about our resident best girl bartender — Bellboy! So grab a drink, snag a seat, and enjoy the show~

Quick facts:

JP VA: Ami Koshimizu
Age: 21 (at the time of death)
Height: 174 cm (5′ 8)
Nicknames: Bell, Ginger, Kid
Favorite movies: Buster Keaton, Charlie Chaplin, noir, and road trip movies. Secretly might have a thing for doramas as well.
Hobbies: Everything high-stakes and extreme; mixing drinks ~~and saving lives~~
Favorite drink: Poitín

One might say Bellboy is one of the more ‘normal’ regulars in the Fleapit, and that’s not exactly untrue. See, she isn’t a child of Inferno, but rather a run-of-the-mill human born in Dublin, Ireland.

You might be wondering, what brought her to the Fleapit, not to mention made her the bartender of the joint. Well that story goes a little something like this:

Young Bellboy had to learn to stand on her own pretty quickly. Having to run away with her family from her home country to the States only to lose her parents afterward… The world was unkind to the poor girl indeed. This kind of experience could be soul crushing to pretty much anyone, but little Bell wasn’t raised to be weak.

A *somewhat* accurate representation of Bellboy during those days

Day after day, she did all she could to keep on going, no kind of job was off-limits. By the way, have we mentioned that she was born in the early 1900s yet? Oh yes, the poor soul ended up right in the middle of the Roaring 20’s… and the Nationwide Prohibition. The whims of fate swept Bell deep into the underground world of bootlegging and, quite unfortunately, to her inevitable demise.

That should have been the end of her, but while adrift in the sea of souls, she found a guide — a sentient mantis who bound himself with Bell and helped her escape certain doom.

Thus a new friendship was born, and Bellboy’s second, slightly more cheerful life began. These two ended up at the gates of Fleapit, and its owner took them in. When it comes to selecting staff, that sly fox always has a hunch for incredible talent, so Bell became the bartender at his theater. Or perhaps, even the best bartender in all of Inferno.

Bellboy is truly special. Many rightfully believe that she’s the soul of the Fleapit. She’ll always be there for you when you need to drink your problems away, but maybe she could use someone who’d do that for her too?

*insert sad violin refrain*

Design and settings are not final and subject to change!

As a part of our preparations for the public demo launch (coming soon, promise!!), we finally made an actual Options menu and audio calibration! This is a more important update than it sounds because previously we were kind of operating on the basis of “let’s make the game first and all the inconsequential stuff later”.

Well, it turns out having an options menu and audio calibration for users is pretty darn important, so we’re happy finally getting that out of the way. There’s still a lot of work to be done, but we consider this another little milestone towards the full game.

DISCOVERING DIALOGUE ANIMATIONS

You might’ve seen us posting a fourth-wall-breaking animation of Ruby’s dialogue on Twitter this month! Actually, we never really intended for them to be a part of the game and it’s something we just had fun with…

…but seeing how many of you loved it on Twitter, we’re seriously considering putting them in the game for some extra special moments. Anyway, we’ve got one more for you right here so please enjoy!

DEVELOPMENT INSIGHTS: BUGS AND CREATIVITY

Here’s a cute little thing we encountered during testing: Andy’s sprite turned into a sprite of another enemy by accident. Well, our first thought was this was annoying as Hell because we thought the build was pretty solid. But then we realized that this could become a mechanic, or an option for customization, or maybe even something else entirely!-

…orrr maybe not end up in the final game at all 🗿

Sometimes that’s just how things evolve throughout game development, new ideas are born not through sheer calculations and extensive planning, but rather through a random bug that popped up during playtesting sessions with the team!

Quick Fleapit Trivia Bit: Lucyfall

Lucyfall is the most popular holiday in Inferno, dedicated to the fall and fall of Lucifer, as well as the sins of people: this is how demons honor those thanks to whom they exist and will continue to exist.

This is also the perfect day for demons to try and claw their way to the top of the hierarchy with deception and trickery while others are busy celebrating.

Taipei Games Show was our final destination for showcasing Fleapit’s demo to public events (for now 👀) and it was still as exciting as our first time! Thank you for coming to see us everyone! 💜

CONCEPT ART CORNER: FLEAPIT ENEMY DESIGN

What we have for you today is just one of many, many concept designs for Fleapit’s enemies!

Since we mostly create all the boring stuff like enemy patterns and behavior first, it’s immensely satisfying finally seeing real sprites instead of placeholders. And that’s where we get to flex the creative muscles to make the monsters as vibrant and memorable as possible… even if sometimes the team can’t agree on one final detail.

By the way, which of the three attack animations of Contract Maker appeal to you the most? 👀

QUICK FLEAPIT LORE BIT

Passage of time on Earth does not equal the passage of time in Inferno. Given it’s estimated that ~7,000 people die on Earth every hour, the entire logistics of Hell would collapse otherwise.

We at Finch Bird team are wrapping up 2023, so it’s as good a time as any to reflect on what we achieved so far, what we’re doing right now, and what our plans are for the nearest future!

(Almost) Done: Freaked Fleapit Demo(!?!)

This year, we put out an exclusive live event demo that showcases what Freaked Fleapit will look like going forward — battle system, dating, quests, and even voice-over!

We’re incredibly thankful to everyone who gave us feedback throughout the year and proud to have players who even visited us multiple times during the events just to spend a bit more time with Freaked Fleapit!

Now, to a more pressing question: when do *you* guys get to play the demo? A quick answer is: early next year.

A more nuanced answer is: We made this current demo to see if our vertical slice even worked on players, and we realized that we can still tinker with some stuff and make the first public build of Fleapit the best it can be!

Of course, we know that some of you can’t wait to play it ‘as is’, so we’re probably going to make that build available earlier — we just need to localize and test it properly, so as many Guests of Fleapit as possible have a pleasant time.

In Progress: Mini-Games!

Some eagle-eyed players on expos have already noticed that we’re planning on making a cocktail mini-game in Freaked Fleapit, but what if we told you that we have even more of these in the works? We wanted to spice up the Dating and Dungeon Crawling parts of Freaked Fleapit, so you’ll also be able to have fun with some Demonic mini-games, such as Tower Defence, Bowling, and more!

We have even more stuff in the works for both demo and full game, of course, but we’ll have to leave them outside of this devlog so as not to spoil the surprise! Perhaps, you’ll be able to find some hints, though… 🤫

Whether you play these mini-games by yourself or you take one of the Fleapit Ladies with you to gain their affection, we hope you’ll have fun!

In Progress: Lobby Upgrade

We only showed you the initial version of Fleapit’s Lobby thus far, but we’re working on expanding the places in the shadows!

Will our beloved Freaked Fleapit turn into a whole Freaked Amusement Center by the end of the game? Honestly, we don’t know yet, but it’s fun to play around with the idea. Anyway, here’s a tiny snippet of what’s to come, hope you enjoy!

There’s also a lot of internal stuff we’re working on that doesn’t have cute concept arts attached yet! We’re designing new attack patterns, perks, skills, and mechanics, designing and improving narrative bits and bobs, fine-tuning the rhythm dungeon crawling, and so on.

We’ll talk about all of this more in 2024, but for now, it’s just a reminder that all of this is *also* being worked on!

I bet you’re pretty curious about the place you ended up at in the first place. And to tell you the truth, so am I, for it’s a pretty weird place even by the Inferno standards.

See, the Freaked Fleapit hasn’t always been a fleapit. Once upon a time, this grand Theater was an integral part of Hell's entire infrastructure, it served to teach demons and imps alike the most efficient methods to extract high quality sin from the souls of sinners.

And I have to admit, the Lord of Hell that conceived this place, that old rascal, has cracked the code — familiarizing demons with the world of people, their culture and everyday life, to stealthily penetrate the earth and provoke them to do sinful deeds has never been easier!

If I told you that underneath the ruthless facade, this Lord was hiding such a sentimental side, you’d probably have a hard time believing he’s a real demon lord. He didn’t have to personally give lectures on human culture and movies in his spare time, but he did. He didn’t have to warm up to his crew, but he did!

He didn’t have to keep this place alive after it was shut down by the higher-ups… But he did.

Ah! And now we’re back in the present time – The Demon Education Program has moved forward, but the Freaked Fleapit still stands. Right now, it’s just a place where Demons, Angels and Reapers can coexist in peace. A bit rusty, a bit worn down, but not without its own charms.

Do I need to mention that all the film from the past is still there?

In my opinion there’s no better place in all Inferno, as long as you can tolerate the antics of the Fleapit’s inhabitants, that is. 👀
