After many years of development and multiple renditions of the script The Inn Between has finally arrived at a milestone.
We have been waiting for all our approvals from steam before officially announcing our date and we finally have our green light!
It is with great excitement and mild terror that I can announce that on September 1st (August 31st for our US friends) our little game is entering Early Access!
We get asked often if the game is still being made and we can without a doubt answer that yes, it very much is. We've had a lot of setbacks, life has not been very kind but on certain platforms we have monthly updates on our progress and frequent beta updates as our chapters are complete.
Now we're in a place where we can bring our full common route into early access!
EARLY ACCESS
What do you get as part of our initial launch?
We will be launching with our full common route which consists of 120k words, 3 possible endings, updates from our demo.
Our extended demo contained 5 chapters at roughly 50k words, our early access will complete and expand on that with 9 chapters!
UPDATES
If you've played the demo you'll notice some major overhauls and some big differences. We've taken the feedback already given to us from our supporters and discord members, in addition to some already planned updates.
Script
The ever evolving monster that is the script now has even more words.
Font Options
The game now supports several font options. Our default font is Quicksand, but with some research on accessible fonts, feedback and testing we now also have Open Dyslexic, Helvetica and comic sans as font options available via the settings menu.
Panning Toggle
The game has been migrated from renpy 7 to renpy 8 and in that change over the entire camera system also had to be upgraded. This change has allowed another major update to our systems in the form of a toggle to turn off the panning.
While you can skip it, it has also been slowed down with the new system.
Zooming cinematics don't get bypassed by this toggle but early access gives us the opportunity to improve with development and adapt as we go.
Phone
Tired of getting trapped in your texts with Leon?
We've upgraded the phone to be player interactable so it is no longer stuck in a timer. This was the plan from the beginning with our mock up and we have finally gotten to implement it!
ROADMAP
While we don't have exact dates for every update we do have a plan.
We start with our common route, and then our routes will start to follow. Our beta supporters will still get access to the WIP chapters as they're worked on, and once a half is fully complete it will join the early access.
Our route order is Emrys > Leon > Solas
Currently our Emrys beta is up to chapter 4 with chapter 5 in progress, which is part one!
We're aiming for our next update to be November 1st.
