Dear strategists, September 1, 2025 marks the 86th anniversary of Germany's invasion of Poland, the event that sparked off the Second World War. As SGS Fall Weiss, released in September 2023, celebrates its second anniversary, we are proud to unveil a major update that significantly enriches this strategic and historical experience.
Whether you're a veteran of the game or a new player, immerse yourself in this iconic campaign. Far more than a simple enhancement, this update enriches SGS Fall Weiss with substantial content and refined mechanics, reinforcing its status as an immersive tool for reliving the Polish campaign of 1939.
This work reflects our determination to improve our games, even those released several years ago (the huge NATO project is still in progress).
The Fall Weiss update includes :
Switching the game to the SGS 1.5 engine, with visual (and practical) interface enhancements and improved mechanics;
New campaign, or to be more precise, the original campaign in the game is split into a strictly historical campaign and a "What if" campaign, allowing you to play around hypotheses such as the modernization of the Polish army in 1939, the alternative deployment of the Pomorze army, brigades of foreign volunteers... New counters make their appearance!
A new short scenario, with few counters and only three turns. Intended to be played on the German side, to get to grips with the game mechanics in a very short game.
Numerous rebalances;
Bug fixes and optimizations (which also owe much to the 1.5 upgrade).

List of 1.5 Changes
NEW
•  Battle view: Battle location highlighted on the map for easier recognition.
• Battle List: the participants appear in a popup over the battle location name in the window, allowing examination of the units involved on both sides, quite useful to make later use of battle cards, among other advantages
• Ergonomics: WASD keys to move the map (is QZSD on Azerty keyboard)
• Information: more detailed Terrain info now provided in region windows, dynamically calculated from map conditions.
IMPROVEMENTS
• Movement: Right click move on stack with immobilized units will select only the units that can move (no longer need to split them out of the stack to activate a move)
• Retreat: land retreat is now possible if the region contains only camouflaged units of the other sides (they no longer prevent retreat). It is also possible in regions where an unresolved battle is still present (if this is the sole retreat option), in which case retreaters will join the fight (nb: this is the end of the trick of surrounding enemy with unresolved battles)
• Combat: combat bonus are capped at -4/+4 (all modifiers of all kinds added)
            Morale boosters are capped (designer choice, here it is +4)
            Morale can not exceed 9 (this is max cap, all modifiers from all kinds added)
• FoW: reconnaissance cards can only view units not under fog of war now (but may be changed by specific scenario rules), so you no longer see or select yellow spots not visible normally.
FIXES
Video Tutorials: the progress bar progression is now working as expected
Note that the update may adversely affect saves (older saves may lose some elements, even if the game remains playable).

Loyalty This Summer
SGS Taipings will receive a major update, with the most important Loyalty system (which already works in SGS We The People) part of its design.
The loyalty system is a major change in gameplay, as you no longer just go through a region and take it for you: if the region is loyal to the other side, you need to maintain military presence over time to "rule" it, otherwise it will return to its original owner. Disloyal regions will allow your opponent to build units, so you cannot leave them unguarded.
Also, retreat in regions loyal to you will be allowed, even if just captured by the enemy.
Loyalty will also affect income (a region 50% loyal to you will bring only half income), and fog of war: you can see all details of enemy forces in regions that are stringly loyal to you...
This will come with two dozens of extra cards, and many more events.
So in short, a complete new (and improved) way to play

We will add new events to them, as provided to us by some of our dedicated players. Most good suggestions will be retained and implemented, such as:

Baocun village anti-taiping rebellion (Zhejiang, large force, 1861+)
Ling Gong revolt in Taiwan (1853)
Shuntian Army uprising (Sichuan, 1859)

In parallel with work on SGS Huê 1968 in the Battles series and research and preparation work on the future SGS monster game in the "Modern Warfare" series, dedicated to the Iran-Iraq war (including the possibility of Soviet invasion and American intervention) and the first Gulf war (1990-1991), various improvements, additions and fixes have been made to SGS Fall Weiss by its designer (who is also the designer of SGS NATO's Nightmare). Work has begun on a new small scenario (the Battle of Tuchola), but this will only be included at a later date (due to lack of time for proper testing).
Changes in this update are as follows:

Added content : all German armored divisions now benefit from the same mechanism as Polish infantry divisions. In other words, a division that has been destroyed in principle has a good chance of being reintroduced into the game (counters with altered capabilities) in subsequent turns. For Poles, this system was introduced in the previous update. It reflects the fact that these large units are generally very resilient, and often manage to survive defeats (even if their numbers and equipment dwindle), more or less extricate themselves from encirclements and thus remain available over the long term. - German armored divisions have now this characteristic : any unit of this type (armored divisions, not "light divisions") destroyed in play is likely (more so than Polish infantry divisions) to come back into play on subsequent turns, in given regions, as a counter with reduced combat capabilities. - The underlying idea here is that these units have succeeded in breaking through or advancing deep into the Polish position, only to be damaged by counter-attacks and temporarily neutralized, necessitating the cessation of operations for rapid reorganization. Prosaically, the disappearance of a German armored division in battle does not mean that the unit has been totally and irretrievably destroyed. - This mechanism favors German offensive postures, both for the human player and the AI, as successful breakthroughs are relatively easily crushed by the Polish player (even more so when the German side is played by the AI), and the crushing of a daring breakthrough will no longer be so radically punitive. From the point of view of realistic consistency, this is also relevant, and expresses a resilience in units that is often difficult to translate into wargames.
Improvements to the campaign and scenario for the USSR invasion of Poland : once the Soviet intervention was launched, Soviet aircraft sometimes flew too far west, even bombing Warsaw ; now, Soviet aircraft cannot fly missions beyond the dividing line (to the west) once the Soviet intervention is launched. - By the same token, Soviet ground units cannot advance beyond the dividing line to the west.
Improvement to the campaign : the importance of the "Romanian corridor" for the Polish player was poorly rendered (the Polish side had no interest in defending the said corridor). This is now changed : the Polish player receives a significant number of victory points for the areas bordering Romania (and moving northwards : the "Romanian corridor") at the end of the game. Trying to protect this area when the Soviet invasion begins becomes crucial.
Another improvement in the campaign is that the German player must now play one of the three cards proposed at the start of the game with an objective that must be achieved (control of Warsaw and Lvov and destruction of part of the Polish army ; control of a certain number of regions identified on the map along the dividing line ; total destruction of the Polish army). Reaching the chosen objective is constrained by a time limit (correlated with historical results) with no consequence on Axis victory points. On the other hand, failure to reach the chosen objective will result in a significant drop in victory points if the objective is not reached on time. A race against time thus begins, forcing the Axis player to take risks.
General corrections : here is the list: - one event referred to Germany's declaration of war on Poland. As rightly pointed out by a player, Germany invaded Poland without a declaration of war ; the event in question has now been changed. - some minor fixes have been made to unit capabilities. - all game cards have been reviewed, including corrections to their triggering (e.g. siege cards).
SGS Fall Weiss will continue to evolve over time. The case of a new small scenario is mentioned above (the battle of Tuchola), partly realized at the time of writing. The case of an alternative deployment system for Poland, in the alternative history campaign scenario, was mentioned in the previous update. It has been integrated into the game, but is not currently active, as the results of test games have been very unsatisfactory. More work needs to be done in this area.
In short, if you've bought Fall Weiss, you'll continue to see the game evolve, given that the content is already extremely rich.
IMPORTANT NOTE
This is an important update. It means you shouldn't play from old saves (made before the update), unless you notice strange effects and bugs that aren't bugs (caused by a mismatch between the save data and the changes made in the game database).

Your feedback has been taken into account, and we've improved certain aspects (the victory point issue), made some balancing adjustments and, of course, fixed the inevitable bugs! This update was intended to include an alternative deployment mechanism for Polish forces, as a content addition. However, tests carried out over the weekend revealed that the mechanism was working unsatisfactorily. This option will therefore be included in the next update.
Nonetheless, this update is copious (in addition to what is mentioned above):

New units, including an option, when playing the alternate history game, which gives the Polish player five infantry divisions and a cavalry division of Ukrainian volunteers; in the 1930s, vague plans for this were sketched out by the Polish authorities; the option considers that these plans have been realized.
In an alternative history game, the Polish player can also buy French MS.406 fighters or Fairey Battle tactical bombers from the British, with the possibility of them arriving in the game;
New cards that contribute to rebalancing and the victory point issue; now, even more than before, the German player has to move fast or the Polish player has to cause a more or less significant drop in his opponent's victory level; with a lot of luck, this level could even collapse;
A new resilience mechanism for the main Polish infantry divisions and cavalry brigades: from now on, all destroyed units can eventually come back into play in a diminished form, making the game with the Polish side much more interesting.
The game remains difficult on the Polish side, but it also becomes so on the German side, as each opponent has radically opposed obligations, which leads to tense situations, difficult decisions and often crucial battles... German power can grow while Polish resilience is not infinite...
