Just in time for Halloween, I'm releasing Patch 1.6 with a bunch of new features and requested additions. Here are the full patch notes:
New eco: Amberleaf Gardens
New species and metamorphoses: Hog, Pumpkin
New event: Harvest Moon
Elemental Essences: you can now find Creature Essences for each of the elemental species, allowing for easier mutations and metamorphoses
Boon choice: you will now unlock Mythical Boons as you play the game. You can equip one of your unlocked Boons at the beginning of each run. This allows players to experiment with builds more easily and provides a form of metaprogression that persists between runs. Certain boons also give you a specific "starting creature" when you start a new game.
Follower survivability: all Followers now get 50% bonus Health at all times, giving players more time to react to incoming burst damage, particularly in later levels
You can now choose between two possible Ecos when advancing to a new level - strategically choose which species, elementals, and monster factions you want to encounter
Mutated species can now have branching choices of possible metamorphoses, allowing you to further customize the abilities of your mutated creatures as they level up.
Replaced Apocalyptic difficulty with three new difficulty levels: Deadly I, II, and III. Each level increases the number of enemies during and after waves, and increases the stats of Bosses.
All levels are now slightly larger to allow for more exploration between waves and accommodate a slightly faster pace due to the new Starting Boon feature
Elemental Homes ("Springs") now drop a Creature Essence of their type when freed from corruption
New Essence: Essence of Power - increase the current and max level of a creature by 1
The player can now hold more than 10 types of Essences
New input scheme: WASD movement - use keyboard keys (user configurable) to move around, while using the mouse to target, select, etc.
Bosses now have a slight glow to make them easier to identify in chaotic defense waves
Crystalland and Winter ecos have 1 extra elemental species present
Stronger visual feedback when hitting enemy units
Increased elemental species max level to 10 (from 8)
The Deathstalker's "Death Burst" ability now triggers whenever an enemy is killed by the Deathstalker (not just by the Doombite ability)
Increased the Energy cost of Venopod by 2
Fixed graphical issue with Petrifying Spit
General performance improvements and bug fixes

Patch 1.5 Notes

Preliminary controller support on all platforms! I am keeping an eye on feedback and will make further improvements as necessary
Steam Deck verified!
Mini Map is now persistent when exiting Grow Mode and using the Main Menu. It will still close when entering Grow mode to give you space to plan your defenses, but will reopen itself once you exit Grow Mode.
New Quick Metamorphosis UI - you can now select a metamorphosis for your Followers without having to leave the creature you currently possess with Symbiosis
Added some new Permanent Boons
New Mythical Boon: Tear of Gaea
You can now visit creature Homes to purchase resources/followers after a level is complete.
You can now remap the Pause key, and use the Spacebar as a keybind
Fay Spirit now correctly gives Poison immunity instead of Stun immunity
Beehives now correctly spawn Honey Essences as intended
Spirit Bond now increases Follower count by 1 (down from 2) and increases the Health of Followers by 10
Boon of the Tortoise now increases the Defense of the Symbiont and all Followers by 20%
Units created with the Bunniloo's Spawn Rabbit ability no longer automatically follow the parent unit, but will engage enemies and defend the area at which they are spawned
The Bunniloo's Spawn Rabbit ability is now attached to the Bunniloo head when mutated, while the Larger Size passive remains on the body
Rabbit Supremacy and Frog Supremacy stat bonuses reduced to 30% (from 50%)
New targeting UI for tile-targeted abilities, allowing for more precision
You can now use the Resync button on your Achievements page to sync your unlocked achievements to Steam. This can occur if there were network issues when you unlocked a particular achievement
Slightly nerfed the Hex faction's Tainted Stumps - hex flame only affects one tile instead of 5, and increased the cooldown of Hexflame Sap by 5%
Hexfire now has a purple color to differentiate it from poison-based effects and avoid confusion
Updated Game Tips to use controller-specific terms when using a controller
Windowed mode now behaves correctly when set to your monitor's max resolution on all platforms
Fixed UI bugs when the Symbiont and Grow screens were both open at the same time
Mini Map now stays behind the Follower screen when both are open simultaneously
Fixed a bug where the player had to spend Anima to have a previous Follower re-follow them
Closing the Boon select screen does not unpause the game if the Follower screen is open
Fixed some issues with ultrawide monitor resolutions
Performance improvements, particularly in later levels with a large number of units
Several crash fixes
Technical Notes for Modders:

You can now add custom Chrysalises which will be unlocked by default (unless there is an achievement associated with them)
Added new triggered ability effect: PRODUCE ITEM, works similarly to the passive effect but does not use "production time" fields
Added new ability spawn "special effect": "NO FOLLOW"
Fixed crash that occurred when friendly modded species died

Slightly decreased the damage of Glacial Surge's blast and nova
Fixed a program hang that could occur at the beginning of a new monster wave
Updated compiler and toolchain versions to include some recent Windows bug fixes - I'm hoping this will alleviate some random crashing on Windows 10-11

Followers can now pick up Anima, Sylva, and Healing Globes for you
Increased the cooldown of the Bunniloo's "Spawn Rabbit" ability by 50%
Toadstools now summon a maximum of 1 frog per mushroom, decreased from 2
Reduced cooldown on Chrysalis of Soleria's "Stone of Protection" to 5 seconds
Slightly decreased Anima dropped from enemies at higher levels
Decreased the effect duration of the Warlock's "Greater Hex: Freeze" ability
Fixed the Valedeer's "Nature's Reclamation" ability so it correctly spawns Vale Saplings
Changed the Scorpion's "Venomous Sting" animation to make it more obvious
Followers can now be selected and upgraded even when off-screen
Fixed a crash that could happen when Followers were off-screen

The Demo and Playtest builds have been updated with all new Follower mechanics and UI, as well as some bug fixes and other changes. We would love your feedback on the updates, which you can read about in detail below!

There is now a cap on the number of Followers you can have at one time, starting at 5 but upgradeable through various means. You can "remove" Followers at any time, causing them to stay where you release them. You can also have old Followers "re-follow" without spending any Anima.
Added new Follower UI which lets you manage your Followers. Click the new button or press 'F' to open the screen. You can change the shortcut key from the Options menu as usual.
Added new Boons which affect Follower cap
Follower cap does not include the creature you control with Symbiosis, but when you leave Symbiosis with a Follower while maxed out on current Followers, that creature will stop Following.
Follower AI should be better at avoiding trapping the player in tight spaces
Reduced stuttering that sometimes occurred at the start of a new monster wave
Ghost Wolves no longer spawn Follower Souls and can't be leveled up as Followers
Correct music will now resume when loading a saved game during an active monster wave
All friendly health bars are now green, including the player's main health indicator and the Follower health bars in the new Followers screen

Here are the latest updates to the Demo build, available NOW!
Important Note: this build is save-breaking. You will not be able to load your saves from the previous version of the Demo, but things like Achievements and Scores will remain untouched.

Added an option to video settings to "zoom out" the pixel scaling of the game world and in-game UI, effectively allowing players to see more on screen
Added a "Touchpad + Keyboard" input method that removes all right-clicking. Left click to move/attack enemies, Ctrl+Click to inspect enemies and items
Clicking the "Follow" button on a friendly creature's stats screen will also cause that creature to gain a level. The Anima cost matches what you would spend if you used Symbiosis to possess the creature and level it up.
Followers can now be leveled up directly from their stats page. Click on a Follower and click the "LVL UP" button.
Follower AI has been significantly improved. They should notice when you disengage from enemies and follow you more closely. When defending the Chrysalis, they will only engage enemies that are near the player, rather than pursuing enemies at great distances.
If the Chrysalis is offscreen during a monster wave and takes damage, a notification will alert the player that the Chrysalis is under attack
A Growth's range will now be shown when clicking on it, similar to how it is shown when placing them using Spores
When hovering over a Growth's metamorphoses, the range indicator will change to show the range of the metamorphosis. This allows the player to visualize the area "covered" by the new metamorphosis
Increased the auto-pickup range for items
Renamed "Sunbud" and "Stormbud" to avoid redundancy when using Spirits on them.
When in Windowed Mode (non-fullscreen) with the game resolution set to the monitor's resolution, the window will become borderless to fill the screen
Prevent items from dropping onto inaccessible tiles
Fixed a possible crash when loading saved games
Fixed a possible crash when applying Storm Spirits and Explosive/Poison essences

For the new "Touchpad" input method, I've tried to make it easier to play the game on a Touchpad by removing all right clicking. While using this method, you will still left click to select things, but also to move and attack enemies with your basic attack. If you want to select an enemy (to inspect it) instead of attacking it, you can hold down Ctrl and left click it.
