Players can now command iconic NATO and Warsaw Pact forces in one of the most detailed tactical wargaming experiences available:

British Army of the Rhine (BAOR): Deploy FV432 armored vehicles, Swingfires, Strikers, Scorpions, Scimitars, and the legendary Chieftain tank.
Canadian 4th Mechanized Brigade Group (4 CMBG): Lead a unique NATO mix of Centurions, Leopard C1 tanks, Lynx 25mm, and the last flamethrowers used by NATO forces in Europe.
Soviet VDV/Airborne Forces: Elite paratroopers supported by BMD infantry fighting vehicles, delivering new tactical threats and opportunities.

We’re thrilled to announce that sign-ups for the Combat Mission Cold War Community Tournament are officially open. The tournament will feature three brand-new scenarios created by UsuallyHapless, based on your votes on our Discord. This is your chance to showcase your tactical skills on maps crafted by the community for the community.

Round 1 | Lattichdorf - US and Soviet forces clash over village.

Round 2 | Moppin Up Rotchstadt - A Soviet Category C formation mops up isolated US straggler.

Round 3 | Fuel Hike - US mechanized infantry attacks Soviet refuleing point in the woods.

Before joining the tournament, please take a moment and carefully read these instructions that are specific to all Combat Mission Tournaments:

Please do not sign up for this tournament if you are not sure that you will be able to play all of the battles.
Because of the way that Combat Mission’s original “play by email” system works, both game files have an in-game field for password protection of the file. This field should be left blank. For the US side the password has been selected before the battles were sent and that field is to be left blank. You can use a password for the Soviet side but it isn’t needed because the Tournament feature handles protection from cheating without using the in game system.
The Tournament will have you playing 2 individual battles where you are playing both sides of the same battle. If you get into the game before your opponent, you will see 1 game turn to play. If your opponent has gotten there first then you will see 2 turn files and each turn thereafter should have 2 files.
Once a tournament begins you will receive the files in the "Saved Game and PBEM"; drop menu under Automated PBEM++ In Progress. You will receive email notifications when your opponent has sent you turns.
You will need a Matrix user name and password to play any tournament (or PBEM++ battle). If you don't have one already you can get one here.

Please remember, DO NOT ABANDON OR SURRENDER during a round, as this will render the scoring inaccurate. We are aware of the scoreboard bug and are actively working on a fix. We appreciate your patience and support as we resolve this issue.

Whether you're a seasoned veteran or a new player, this tournament is the perfect opportunity to face off against others in the community and experience new battlefield scenarios.

To celebrate Home of Wargamers, we are really excited to announce the first Combat Mission Grand Tournament. The tournament will start on September 25th at 10.00 GMT.

The tournament will feature 3 titles of the Combat Mission series: Battle of Normandy, Cold War and Red Thunder. Every game will have 3 rounds with 3 different scenarios:

Combat Mission - Battle of Normandy
- Round 1 - Buying the Farm - Elements of the 29th Infantry Division advancing near Isigny. Allied attack.
- Round 2 - Barkman’s Corner - 27th of July Barkman’s Panther was repaired during the night but before he could link up with main unit PanzerGrenadiere asked for his help.
- Round 3 - No Exit - Fictional Company-level meeting engagement near an Autobahn interchange in Summer ‘45.

Combat Mission - Cold War
- Round 1 - Valley of Ashes - US vs Soviet meeting engagement at dawn.
- Round 2 - Recover and Attack - M1 tank recovery. US attack.
- Round 3 - Civil War Within - 1080 - There has been an underground movement in Ukraine to break away from the Soviet Union, but it’s out in the open now, and it has led to war.

Combat Mission - Red Thunder
- Round 1 - Dawn Patrol - Reinforced Soviet Infantry company probes the German lines. Allied Probe.
- Round 2 - Delaying Action at Ogledow - Armored action on the west bank of Vistula. Allied attack.
- Round 3 - Where Forefathers Fought - Guards Rifle Battalion, accompanied by tank, attacks weakened German battalion in the village. Allied attack.

To make the Combat Mission - Grand Tournament the most engaging experience possible, we will share, for every round, valuable resources that will help players to plan the perfect strategy. These include: insightful editorials by Mark Goddard, military Officer, history enthusiast and wargaming expert, that explain the historical context of some of the key battles to gain a deeper understanding of their strategic significance; strategic videos by Usually Hapless, where he guides players through optimal strategies for tackling each round; live stream sessions with Gamer_1745 where he recreates one of the maps from each round.

To take part in the Combat Mission - Grand Tournament, players do not have to participate in all the 3 tournaments in the 3 different titles. For example, a player can decide to play just the tournament on Combat Mission - Cold War and still have the possibility to be one of the winners of the Grand Tournament.

As a matter of fact, for every tournament, the top 4 players will be drafted for a Combat Mission - Invitational Grand Tournament starting later this year.
If one or more players will be in more than one top 4, the following player will be drafted based on the ranking of the tournament where the player has the lower position. For example, if a player arrives 1st in the Combat Mission - Battle of Normandy and 4th in the Combat Mission - Red Thunder, the player who has arrived 5th in the Combat Mission - Red Thunder will be drafted for the Combat Mission - Invitational Grand Tournament.

Before joining the tournament, please take a moment and carefully read these instructions that are specific to all Combat Mission Tournaments:

This Tournament will feature 3 rounds with 3 different scenarios. 2 of these scenarios are new and have been created specifically for this Tournament.

Round 1: Jazreel Junction : Is a 35 minute meeting engagement at the Company Team level US vs Soviet June 1979

Round 2: All Quiet On The Eastern Front Tournament: Is a medium sized 35 minute meeting engagement set on 6th September 1981 between Soviet FSE and US task force advancing to contact.

Round 3: Hunter and Prey: Is a small 30 minute battle. It is a Soviet armor attack on a US convoy

Combat Mission Cold War is set in the tipping-point years of a conflict that gripped the world for 45 years. Between 1979-1982, both the NATO and Soviet Warsaw Pact militaries began the shift away from industrialized warfare of the early 20th century and towards the modern digital battlefield of today.
Combat Mission Cold War simulates several “what if” conflict scenarios between US and Soviet forces centered on the strategic Fulda Gap and environs in West Germany.

Combat Mission Cold War comes with 15 standalone scenarios set in the US V and VII Corp sectors of West Germany and 3 full length campaigns:

The NTC Campaign: Puts you in command of a US Army Company Team as it begins its rotation and trial by simulated fire against the premier Soviet style formation in the world.
The US West German Campaign: Set in the southern Fulda Strategic Corridor between Fulda and Hanau (there are two versions of the US Campaign, 1982 and 1979 to allow players the opportunity to see and compare the differences in equipment between the two periods).
The Soviet Campaign: Set north and east of Fulda, the Soviet Campaign follows the “Ride of the 120th Motor Rifle Regt” on the opening 48 hours of a fictional “what if” West German invasion.

FEATURES:

Tactical formations include highly detailed, historically accurate organizations, equipment and modeling of weapons effects that is second-to-none within the wargaming industry.
Full suite of era-accurate tanks and mechanized infantry fighting vehicles, including many not available in any other Combat Mission franchise: (M48, M60 series of tanks, M150 TOW, M1 (105), T64, and T80, etc.
Full suite of aircraft effects modeled on legendary platforms such as the iconic US F-4 Phantom and A-7 Corsair.
Scenarios range from small platoon-based actions to large Battalion battles.
The Soviets bring with them their service workhorses, the infamous Mig-23/27, the Su-17, the rare but powerful Su-25 Frogfoot, and the well-known Mi-24 series gunship, including the first “Hind A” version and the famous “Hind D.
Combat Mission Cold War also includes new and reoccurring battlefield innovations such as the introduction of Single and Dual-Purpose Improved Cluster Munitions delivered by both air and artillery support.
The early days of electronic warfare is modeled giving players a sense of the impact an encroaching digital age would have on warfare.

Combat Mission Cold War will be available on Steam and Matrix Games site on November 16th, and for the first time with the Slitherine PBEM multiplayer system.
