Greetings, Mercenaries!
We'll be releasing Community Update #7 next week on September 7.
Today, we turn our attention to Prisoners and the many improvements coming to their role within your troop. Across the lands of Wartales, people from all walks of life may find themselves imprisoned. Whether they are hardened outlaws, unfortunate souls caught on the wrong side of the law, or honest people driven into difficult circumstances.
Many eventually find themselves delivered into the hands of the local authorities in exchange for a few well-earned Krowns.
With this update, however, imprisonment may no longer define the rest of their story.
There are many ways to deal with crime and punishment across Kingdoms. Some Prisoners may now be offered a more promising path forward-provided they can prove themselves worthy of it.
Whether they are former criminals or simply people looking for a second chance, they can be shaped into respectable mercenaries… or at least something close enough.
When a Prisoner joins your troop, they will retain unique skills tied to their status, background, and former life.
Community Update #7 introduces a dedicated Prisoner skill tree, allowing you to develop their abilities and strengthen the particular qualities that set them apart from your other companions.
Whether they truly leave their past behind is another matter entirely.

Prisoners have needs of their own, though until now, some of them have not always been clear enough. Failing to meet these expectations could reduce their satisfaction without giving you an obvious explanation as to why.
The detention system has been reworked to make the consequences of your decisions easier to understand. You will now be able to better identify how specific actions affect your Prisoners and their willingness to remain with the troop.
Be warned: some of them may have rather unexpected tastes. We will leave you to discover those for yourselves, Mercenaries.

Mercenaries, keep a close eye on your captives.
Escaped Prisoners have always been able to reappear elsewhere in the world. With Community Update #7, these encounters will become more varied and meaningful.
Some may return to settle an old score, while others may eventually find themselves back in the custody of the local authorities, rotting behind bars once again.
Should you cross paths with them later, they may reconsider their decision to flee and ask to return to your troop.
After all, life in the stocks may make your camp seem rather welcoming by comparison.

Mercenaries, we would like to thank each and every one of you for the valuable feedback and suggestions you continue to send to the team.
Your support helps shape the future of Wartales and allows us to expand the adventures awaiting you across these scattered and unforgiving lands.
Sharpen your blades, Mercenaries, we’ll see you on September 7!
Shiro Games.

Outlaws, thieves, and mercenaries with questionable morals will soon have a new place to call home.
As part of Wartales’ upcoming free Community Update, we are introducing "The Lair": a new underground location dedicated to those willing to operate outside the law.

"The Lair" is accessible from the beginning of your adventure, provided your troop has accumulated enough Suspicion to earn an invitation.
Wherever your journey takes you, someone shady will always be nearby, ready to point you toward the closest entrance. After all, the criminal underworld is never too far away.
Once inside, your troop will gain access to services and opportunities unavailable to more respectable mercenaries.
You will be able to:
Reduce your troop’s Suspicion.
Sell stolen items.
Purchase weapons and armour intended for less-than-honourable fighters.
Accept contracts suited to criminal bands.
Rest and prepare your next unlawful operation.
The Lair is home to five essential characters.
Looking for work that respectable mercenaries would refuse?
The Contract Broker provides access to a dedicated quest board featuring opportunities designed for criminals, thieves, and other unsavoury individuals.
Here is a non-exhaustive list of the tasks that await you:
Catch and Deliver
Attack
Assassinate

The Black-Market Merchant will happily purchase your stolen goods, no questions asked.
They also offer access to specialised weapons and armour that cannot be found through traditional merchants.

When the guards are closing in and your troop has become a little too recognisable, this mysterious individual can help reduce your Suspicion.
Their methods may be questionable, but discretion is guaranteed.

Even criminals need somewhere to rest.
The Lair’s Tavern Keeper provides a safe place to recover, gather information, and prepare before returning to the road.

The Gatekeeper controls access to "The Lair", allowing your troop to enter and leave this hidden refuge.
They may not be the most welcoming person you meet, but they make sure "The Lair" remains concealed from unwanted visitors.

"The Lair" expands the possibilities available to criminal troops, giving players new ways to manage Suspicion, profit from stolen goods, and build a band equipped for life outside the law.
Whether crime is your troop’s primary occupation or simply a useful source of additional income, "The Lair" will provide the services you need to remain one step ahead of the authorities.
"The Lair" will be available as part of Wartales’ upcoming free Community Update.

Take a dive into the new features and additions coming to Wartales with Community Update #7 on September 7th.
In this update, you’ll be able to roam the world in search of wealthy merchants to capture. Battles can take place across 6 new Battle Maps, spread throughout different regions.
This unlawful activity may also grant you access to even more items and equipment, including 3 new armour sets that can be stolen from wandering merchants.
Time is money Krowns, Mercenaries! You can now automatically skip your units’ turns, helping you secure victories even faster. And don’t worry, you can switch back at any time to a more deliberate pace and position your units exactly the way you want.
This addition also comes with several improvements, including better AI calculations, smoother camera movement, and more refinements designed to improve the overall battle experience.
Once you return to camp, make sure your bounty doesn’t escape! If they do, they may come back later with reinforcements to ambush you, attack during your night’s rest… or even end up behind bars themselves!
To help you avoid this, we’ve also made the Prisoner Trust System much clearer and easier to understand.
Over the coming weeks, we’ll be sharing more information about the two main features of Community Update #7:
The Prisoner Rework System on August 18th
and “The Lair” on Sept 2nd
We hope you’re enjoying what you’ve seen so far, Mercenaries!

Greetings, Mercenaries!
Community Update #7 is on its way, and we need your help to put its upcoming features to the test!
Starting August 5, the Open Beta will be available to all Wartales players.
Community Update #7 will be released as a free update on September 7.

Right-click Wartales in your Steam Library.
Select Properties.
Open the Betas tab.
Select the Open Beta branch from the drop-down menu.
Launch Wartales and begin your journey!
If you want to opt out, follow the same process and select the game's default branch.
We recommend using your own Wartales save file. To avoid any complications, we strongly advise creating a backup of your save file. It can be found here:
Steam\\steamapps\\common\\Wartales\\save
We also advise not overwriting your in-game save, to avoid losing your progression in the live version of Wartales.
During the Beta, we encourage you to share your experience in the dedicated Discord thread.
Your reports will help the team identify important issues, balance specific aspects of the update, and determine which areas require additional attention before release.
We also want to hear your suggestions! Community Updates are shaped by your direct feedback and designed to improve the Wartales experience alongside those who know it best: its players.
We are listening, Mercenaries!
Some icons may be missing.
Most of the new narrative text is still missing. However, the gameplay text should be complete.
Balancing is subject to change and is not final. We would also appreciate your feedback on it.
We would also like to take this opportunity to thank each and every one of you.
Your feedback, support, and passion have been invaluable throughout the Wartales journey. You have played a crucial role in shaping the game into what it is today, and your continued involvement helps us take the adventure even further.
We cannot wait to discover what awaits us next together.

Explore Isandrin to figure out what could be behind the growing unrest and chaos in the city. General Maxim is a divisive person and your task will be to make sure this political division doesn't tear the city apart.

Manage Chaos by fighting rioters and troublemakers in a new battle type with a special victory condition. Chaos will be reduced by your success (or rise from your failure) to handle the situation!

Restore Order with some propaganda work. Getting rid of bad posters plastered everywhere and posting some good ones praising the General! Only when chaos is low will you be able to enjoy the benefits of the city.

Jump at the centre of a political game in the capital city of Edoran. Isandrin is a city wide setting like you haven’t seen in Wartales for a while, adding everything that makes such a setting different from the rural regions.

The seat of the Empire breeds intrigue, conspiracy, and shadowy power plays. The Legion appointed a new puppet to strengthen their hold on the Capital, but he has other ideas in mind.
As the young General Maxim reshapes the Capital through bold reforms, it is up to you to restore order and figure out how to bring lasting stability to Isandrin.

This unique situation is represented by a chaos bar at the top of your User Interface and will increase depending on the events happening in the city.
The more you leave the city as it is, the more riots and other events will lead to a rise in price by the last merchants bold enough to come here. Some places will also be unavailable and less contracts will be opened for you. You can also expect to encounter more bandits and fights in the street.
Chaos will gradually rise if you let the situation remain as it is and will eventually lead to a Crisis. This can be resolved by fighting, but you'll mostly want to target the problems directly to reduce chaos beforehand.
You can reduce chaos by confronting its sources directly. For that, there are three new special battles that you'll have to handle:

Depending on your success in these battles, you will reduce chaos (or see it rise because of your failure). Fortunately, there are other ways to act.

If you feel wiser and less violent for some reason, you can roam around the city performing good deeds. For example, you can give money to charities, sing praises to the city, or even better, tear down bad propaganda posters and replace them with good ones!
Use all these tools to ensure the city doesn't tear itself apart.
We hope you’ve learned a lot from this read, and we can’t wait to see how your actions shape the Capital. Isandrin is a big city, and you’ll have a lot to do in it!
If navigating the chaos in the Capital is something you'd like to experience, don’t forget to wishlist the DLC on Steam. This really helps us out and lets us know you’re interested in the upcoming content.

Isandrin, eternal capital of the Edoran Empire and proud heart of the Legion, has long stood as a symbol of order and dominion. Its banners fly over a city built on discipline, faith, and conquest. Yet even this bastion now trembles from within.
Unrest in Isandrin is more than rumor. Chaos can be felt, seen, and measured in the life of its streets. As tensions spread, the capital grows harsher. Prices surge, contracts vanish, riots erupt, districts close, and danger follows you even within the walls…
