Hey everyone! We keep working on the game and we’ve prepared another patch with some bug fixes and changes. Thank you for staying with Akatori!

And here’s the patch note:

Changes

Added button rebinding for gamepads.
Significantly reduced the Mako's inertia in the air to improve maneuverability.
Updated font for Traditional Chinese and Simplified Chinese to improve readability and normalize character sizes.
Added tutorial for wall clinging in the "Amber Castle" location.
Added air currents for easier return from the "Amber Castle" to the "Amber Forest".
Changed the position of one of the flying mobs in the "Amber Castle" location.
Moved the altar on the path to the detonator in the "Amber Castle" to make the level progression more comfortable.
More prominent visual indication of the Serpent boss's kill box during the chase.

Bug Fixes

If you repeatedly click the continue button at the moment of death in One Life mode, then upon entering another save slot, Mako will have the death animation.
Top segment of the destructible wall on the first level of "Amber Plant" lacks lighting.
Player input is blocked during quick transitions between scenes.
The exit from the mini-boss Major Major's arena does NOT open if the player dies between killing the boss and picking up the key.
If you minimize the game during the fade-out when transitioning between scenes or at any ambient switch point, then upon returning, the ambient of the previous scene will play on the new scene.
The battle theme against the Serpent continues to play if the player Alt+Tabs during the transition from the death screen to the altar.
The "Next" button on the credits skips the credits entirely.
If after activating the Chaos bell you exit to another scene, return to the portal and hit it, the bell will activate over the portal, and after repeating, the portal's effects and UI will disappear.
Fixed bugs with character display in Chinese localization.
Fixed lighting for snowballs in the "Amber Plant" location.
Fixed behavior of the Chaos bell in the "Amber Castle" location.
Fixed gaps in level art across all locations.
Fixed saving of difficulty selection in save slots.
Minor text fixes.

And over 15 less noticeable changes :)

Akatori 1.0.03 patch

Kill zones in one of the Amber Castle levels and one of the Amber Forest levels have been replaced with non‑lethal ones.
Difficulty and language settings have been combined into a single menu.
Updated tutorial text for the "Glider" ability.
Optimization of heavy baked lighting – now looks the same but takes up less space and puts less strain on the game.
Visual improvements in the level art on the long snowy descent of the snow location.

Fixed Bugs

Collectible icon does not appear if you close the game before saving at the altar.
Collectibles collected on PC do not appear on another device.
A collectible collected on the "One Chance" difficulty does not reset if you start a new game in the same save slot.
Achievement for collecting all collectibles is awarded if you collect the same cat several times in one save slot by repeatedly restarting the game.
Achievement for collectibles in the Monastery is awarded upon collecting the first collectible in two different save slots.
Mako rises upward if you press against the wall to the left of the air current in the left part of the first snow level.
Fixed spots where Mako cannot cling to the wall with the staff.
The damage wave of the Bastion mob does not move by itself and only starts moving if Mako steps into it and starts moving in any direction.
The Serpent boss takes damage when Mako attacks the Serpent during the transition to phase 2.
Mako takes damage from the Serpent’s tongue even when the tongue visually does not hit Mako.
If you kill the mini‑boss Major Major and stand on his corpse, the weapon art overlaps Mako.
Consumables in slots get shuffled after death, as the player set them. (Note: this is listed as a bug – intended behaviour is that they stay as arranged.)
Exit from Major Major's arena does NOT open if the player dies between killing the boss and picking up the key.
If you change the language selection in settings, the difficulty selection remains in the initial language.
If you minimize the game during the tutorial when receiving an ability (when the pop‑up window appears) and then return, the game will be paused, and after exiting pause the tutorial disappears.
If during a cutscene with Japanese localization enabled you scroll to Portuguese, most of the Japanese characters in the dialogue disappear.
Fixed several false texts.
Removed a false transition at the beginning of the snow location, through which it was possible to unintentionally run to another level.

And over 20 more minor changes :)

Hey everyone! It's been a week since Akatori was released and we've been working hard to make the game better. We continue our work on Akatori to add new quality of life features and fix bugs!

And here's the patch note:

Changes

Added the ability to change game difficulty during gameplay in settings.
Added the ability to skip dialogues in cutscenes.
Reduced spike damage in Story mode by half.
Added game pause when minimizing the application or disconnecting the gamepad.
Changed the camera on the Wasp mini-boss. The boss is now more visible.
Added breath vapor for Mako in the snow location and its portal levels.
Map quality has been improved.
Optimization in the level art of some Amber Forest levels.
In Amber Castle, the riding platform now has a new ride sound when you activate the corresponding lever.
Added a new opening sound for iron doors.
Added a new animation for the Serpent boss's transition to its second phase.

Fixed Bugs

Fixed resolution settings issues for widescreen monitors.
Fixed incorrect sound playback when hitting with fists.
If you recall the staff while swinging on a bamboo from its right side, the camera will not return to normal after the staff comes back and will remain zoomed out.
Player movement is blocked when the player is holding onto certain bamboos.
Mako twitches erratically when running into a wall in one of the Amber Castle levels.
On a sloped surface, the shockwave from the downward aerial attack goes horizontally, ignoring the terrain.
If you approach a flying mob and perform an uppercut, the flying mob freezes in place and stops attacking the player.
The Sniper mini-boss's cannon renders either on top of the boss or behind it intermittently.
If you start jumping on the elevator in Amber Castle with the longest double jump while descending, the elevator doors won't close, allowing you to stay at the top.
When the Serpent boss attacks the lever with its snout and tries to break free, the lever clips through its head.
Cursor highlight disappears, preventing navigation via keyboard/controller, when entering the "Controls" section in the main menu settings.
The art for the star icon above viewed collectible items has low resolution.
The VSync setting has a different selection order compared to screen shake and light flashes.
Taking a screenshot via the Steam overlay in the main menu results in a completely white image.
The "Return to Main Menu" button disappears on the death screen if the game is minimized on "One Chance" difficulty.
An incorrect button is displayed instead of RCtrl in tooltips.
Reduced the cave echo effect in one of the Amber Castle levels.
Simplified and Traditional Chinese text becomes unreadable when bolded.

And more than 30 other less noticeable changes :)

Hey everyone! Akatori is approaching the final stage. And now we are happy to present an updated Akatori demo! We have processed the previous demo feedback and based the changes on it. The game has been significantly improved.

The new demo is already available to play. We hope you’ll enjoy the improvements!

And here’s a patch note with all the changes:

All current demo version saves will be wiped, and the game will start from the beginning.

Changes

1. Reworked player Energy accumulation system (auto-regen reduced, but basic attacks now build Energy much faster).

2. Rebalanced combat system.

3. Added the ability to turn during charged attack wind-up.

4. Changed “Dodge” ability — now includes a counterattack.

5. Improved player controls.

Input lag removed.

Airborne behavior reworked.

Wall-grab issues fixed.

6. Completely reworked bamboo mechanics and added a tutorial for it.

7. Enemy spawn system.

Old timer-based spawn (every 20 sec) replaced with trigger-based spawn:

When resting at special stones;

When transitioning between levels.

8. Added enemy highlighting for better visibility on levels.

9. Breath meter is now separate from the Energy meter — it no longer consumes Energy, but uses a new resource: “Breath”.

10. Added new tutorials on levels and replaced old ones in the inventory UI.

11. Added low-health indicator to the HUD.

12. Added low-air indicator for underwater breathing to the HUD.

13. Changed the background for tooltips.

14. Added the option to fully skip cutscenes and dialogues.

15. Added camera shake toggle (for various in-game actions) to the graphics settings.

16. Added gamepad vibration toggle to the gamepad control settings.

17. Added save-in-progress display when saving occurs.

18. Relocated quit buttons (to main menu and to desktop) to the game settings section in the UI.

19. Changed UI button design in the main menu.

Bug Fixes

20. Monsters no longer overlap — they now spread out from each other.

21. Camera improvements — more smoothness added, camera stutter removed.

22. Added cursor highlight and scroll support for keyboard/mouse in the shop when the player has no amber.

23. Performance — overall optimization of rendering and scripts (higher FPS and more stability).

And several hundred more less noticeable changes and bug fixes :)

By evening, the abbot summons them to the reception room. And Hana is there too. When did they manage to get in trouble?

— All right, you slovenly girls, I need to have a word with the general. And you two keep his daughter company.

The general's daughter — Hilda — eyes the nuns with suspicion. The girl is very pale and breathes heavily, with a wheeze.

— And why did you tag along with your father?
— The doctors say mountain air is good for my lungs.
— Training is good for breathing. You're more short of breath than an amber goat.

Hilda doesn't respond to the rudeness. Mako doesn't like that; she's already gearing up for another jab, but Hana cuts in.

— What a beautiful dress… And your hairstyle! You must be tired of choosing among all the boys around you.

— As soon as I recover.
— I see… Well, we're not exactly swimming in suitors here.

Hilda purses her thin grey lips.

—So what exactly do you do here? The nearest city is three teleports away.
— We train. — Mako seizes the initiative from Hana. — We escort military personnel to the mining sites. And we train.
— Aren’t you bored? In the city we have receptions, theatres. Theremin. Trips to the mineral waters.
— We have plenty of water here too. But you clearly don't get enough training. I'm sick too, and without training I'd have been done long ago.
— You're sick too? Like me?

Hilda covers her mouth with an embroidered handkerchief, her body shaken by a cough.

— I don't think so. I react badly to amber storms; without the monastery's influence, amber would have killed me long ago. But training protects me. I could survive thousands of attacks!
— Thousands… Maybe I should try your training…

Hilda is seized by another fit of coughing.

Later, Hilda jolts along in a carriage, while Mako and Hana watch her go.

— She's so strange, don't you think, Mako. Completely different… — She's the same. What on earth is that "theremin" anyway?!
