It is a new year, and today I will answer any possible questions you may have about the future of Moonana this year and going forward as we tackle money issues, development hurdles, and the start of a new project. There’s good news in this post, so don’t skip it!
First, let’s quickly clarify a few things. A while ago, we announced Moonana had been going bankrupt for a while. Bankruptcy is actually a very interesting phenomenon, because it doesn’t just suddenly hit you. The developers of Disgaea, Nippon Ichi Software, apparently were going bankrupt, and made Disgaea their last title! You know how long a game takes to make by now, so they took a long time being bankrupt and saved themselves from the ditch with that title that became their biggest banking game! Now, the whole time they were making that game, they were still slowly going bankrupt, but sometimes you have a dream, and where there is a dream, there is a way!
Now, fast forward to Moonana 2026, and we found a way. Somehow.
We announced a while ago the game Clowned King, an innovative tactical RPG about a troupe of Clowns fighting the main character’s dad's empire, with all sorts of inventive and fun ideas, like a mission-building system that would allow players to not only create their own missions but also a story for the missions and even possibly implement their own original characters later on. Of course, this is my absolute dream game, and it’s also incredibly difficult to make!
We realized pretty early on that making a game like this would cost us a LOT of money, and publishers were simply not interested; they wanted the same game but for half the price (who would’ve guessed), meaning cutting costs on our own production, meaning the quality and initial vision would not be kept at all. Ultimately, we decided on one thing instead.
We won’t be reducing scope for this game AT ALL. Instead, we will wait longer to produce it, when we feel like we can fund the project and integrate all artists, programmers, etc. that will be working on it, and everyone will be fairly paid. But that means simply not working on this game at the moment and moving on to a smaller project.
Many of you may know, Keylocker was conceptualized before Virgo Versus The Zodiac, but Virgo was a more viable project to be done as a first game. The graphic style was quicker, the scope was smaller, and funding was much less, making it perfect for a first project. Keylocker is much more complex, making it an excellent second project. At the moment, Clowned King is beyond what we can do with our resources and funding, so we’ll move onto another project instead, while keeping Clowned King intact as it is to be developed in the future. When? We don’t know yet, but we heard our fans are quite patient.
Now, in terms of our bankruptcy! Moonana has been reduced to a company of 3 people instead of the previous 5. We can’t afford wages for everybody… tragic, I know! I’m sure many of you have been going through hardships of your own. The world is kinda bad right now.
With that in mind, we brainstormed what kind of project we could do without a programmer and maybe faster than previous projects (to further reduce the funding ask, already planning a smaller scope from the start that we can handle). By that, we mean “something one of us can learn how to program from scratch”, and of course, we leaned towards platformers. They’re fairly easy to make and can definitely be done by 3 people, heck, even by only one. There we went, with a little idea, a dream, some concept arts crafted even before Keylocker was released (because, like Keylocker being conceptualised before Virgo, this game was conceptualised before Keylocker!) and infinite gameplay tests to reach a satisfying gameplay that isn’t… buggy. And hey, two characters from this game made a cameo in Virgo, too! You’ll have to guess where, though…
At first, Anglerman didn’t want to make a platformer; To be entirely honest, he hates them, but now he absolutely loves this game (reminder that Anglerman was the biggest Cyberpunk hater before we made Keylocker!).
In fact, I bet you’re curious how a platformer made by a platformer hater plays like. I’d say it’s really, really fun!
It’s an action game and not turn-based, and we never worked with those before, so that’s equally challenging and exciting. It’s really fun to just go around killing enemies. The combat we’re going for is a push-and-pull thing where you use your own HP to attack, so you constantly have to keep your HP safe by killing enemies and stealing their blood. It’s a vampire concept, there’s lesbians, there’s taboo romance between a human and a vampire, there’s disgusting eldritch creatures, there’s court intrigue and Hungarian/Romanian mythos… Think Vampire Hunter D, Trinity Blood, Castlevania, Bloodborne and all the classics, in a package of Wired’s artwork, the one who worked on Virgo’s physical cover. That’s the kind of game we’re working on now!
Although we’re not officially announcing this title today, I will leave you all with a teaser.

For now, I’ll stop right here. We are not ready to fully announce this new game just yet. We just wanted to let you know, Clowned King hasn’t been abandoned, it’s just gonna cook for longer while we keep ourselves afloat by creating a new, quicker project that will fund us for longer.
We are currently looking for funding for this platformer and will start contacting publishers soon (and possibly planning a Kickstarter as well). We have several kinds of plans for it. This game is also currently in a competition, and if we win, we get money, which would be great, so please send your positive energy our way!

⚔️ Black Hole Mode ⚔️
Originally seen in Virgo Versus The Zodiac, Black Holes make a return with a roguelite twist! These randomly generated runs offer thrilling new challenges, randomized enemy encounters, and the chance to rematch defeated bosses. This feature also allows players to farm resources and weapons that can be used in the main campaign! Black Holes will be accessible within Laplace's Lion Den which is receiving additional entrances, making it available in every Chapter of the game.
🎸 Concert Minigame Mode & New Songs 🎸
Players will soon be able to replay all concert minigames from the main menu at any time. We’re also adding four more songs from the soundtrack to B0B0’s setlist, in addition to an Auto Mode for those who want to sit back and enjoy each performance.
💋 5 New Romanceable Characters 💋
Five new bachelors and bachelorettes have joined the dating pool! B0B0 can now romance and unlock secret events and endings with Patricia, Nahilys, Sargon, Jester Girl, and IC-Bot. ❤️
🎩 New Party Member Hats 🎩
Dealer is getting a fashion upgrade ✨ His Terminator, Jester, and Cyberwalker classes will all receive new hats, in addition to a secret unlockable hat for Rocket!
🗺️ Quest Map Markers 🗺️
The Map Feature can now be accessed through the Quest Menu, which will display a marker for the selected quest, showing where to go to complete it.

I also wanted to share with you guys some recent posts from the Patreon! In February we released a music pack of 5 unreleased songs from Keylocker which are free for commercial use (or just listening) by $10 patreon tier members! We also released the full 33 pages of the “How to make an RPG in 10 days” Guide as a purchasable collection, so if you were interested in the guide but aren’t able to support the patreon, this is an alternative way of getting it!
Finally and perhaps most importantly, we posted a preview of the concept arts and lore for one of our upcoming projects, which is a 3D vampire game, so definitely a very exciting project, and the art is absolutely incredible, you rly have to see it!

This cyberpunk adventure from Brazilian developer Moonana Games has a demo that features Brazilian Portuguese language support! A full game translation is coming later this year as a free update.💚
Keylocker was able to launch with Japanese localization because we worked with renowned translator Yasumasa Shibata, who already has experience with Moonana Games from past titles like Virgo Versus the Zodiac and is familiar with their style and workflow. For Brazilian Portuguese, we have onboarded new translators to bring Keylocker’s 130k+ words of epic cyberpunk story to players in Brazil. This is taking a bit longer to get just right, but we are putting in the time to make sure we can share a fantastic translation of B0B0's sonic revolution. We’ll have more news on localization soon!

We started last week showcasing some unrevealed concept artworks of Keylocker's areas never seen before, and also a how to make an rpg in 10 days tutorial by Anglerman, and we plan to bring way more content weekly for patrons. Hello Doppelgangers, I've just landed back in England after our company work trip to attend Tokyo Game Show in Japan, and am sitting on the train to Bristol, writing this message. Some of the team already arrived back in the middle of last week and started working on fixing bugs.
I've just landed back in England after our company work trip to attend Tokyo Game Show in Japan, and am sitting on the train to Bristol, writing this message. Some of the team already arrived back in the middle of last week and started working on fixing bugs. Currently it's our goal to have a patch out with bug fixes this week. If you've left or are thinking of leaving a negative review despite liking the game itself, I can make a promise to you right here, right now, that the bugs will be fixed, and the game that you like will still be there.
While leaving a negative review does make your frustrations clear, it also prevents us from having a good launch which puts our future as a Game Developer into uncertain territory, so I hope you can take into account the negative impact in our small Game Dev career that such reviews cause, and that we are doing our best to fix things.
All of these issues will be addressed as soon as possible, with a priority focus on hard crashes and softlocks.
We have been working tirelessly on the game since June last year, and thanks to our Publisher Serenity Forge they have had a at least 1-2 QA people testing the game 2 days a week (and sometimes more) since then as well. Earlier on their work was focused towards verifying slices of the game as we completed milestones for submission, and later on the focus shifted towards testing the full game as well as making sure there were no lingering issues with equipment. There is a very significant amount of variation in the game, and in some cases bugs slipped through the net simply because of how difficult it is to test every possible variable between equipment, skill trees and class choices. In addition to this there was a bigger group focus test of the beginning of the game, and I've made multiple beta testing versions of the game available to Beta Backers of the Keylocker Kickstarter.
In April this year the team and I made the decision to attend Tokyo Game Show for the first time. We've attended Bitsummit in Kyoto two times prior, and events like these is one of the few times we get to actually meet in person and hang out, as we are spread all over the world. When we made that decision originally, the aim was to release the game in August, which would have given us time to attend to the launch before leaving for Japan. In the end we delayed the release to September 18, and on September 22nd, we left for Japan. I don't know how many of you reading this have attended these types of incredibly large public facing trade shows, but it's an experience as rewarding as it is draining, and by the end of the show, the end of September had come as well, and we were mentally and physically exhausted.
The next week was spent recuperating, doing things together as a group (we had not seen each other in over 2 years) and exploring Tokyo, and at the start of last week, the travel home began, with all the complications and wrinkles that multiple flights across the world can have. For example, traveling from Japan to Brazil takes at least 2 days and includes two absolutely brutal 14 hour flights in succession.
So, one by one the team has been reaching their homes, some with more difficulty than others, dealing with the jetlag of traveling across half the globe and getting back up to speed with the state of the game and other demands.
Last week I also received the final localizations for Brazilian Portuguese, Korean, Simplified Chinese and Traditional Chinese. All of these need to be implemented as well, which takes a lot of time and testing and focus separate from bug fixes (which are still our number one priority.)
There are other demands placed upon as well, in between Keylocker launch interviews and announcing our next game (Clowned King, check out the Steam page!) it has been a very busy few weeks..
So! Now we are working tirelessly on fixing bugs to make the experience of the game better for you all, and as I said earlier, there will be a patch with fixes to bugs this week.
And as for what comes next, we have 4 new languages to add, more Dateable characters to finish implementing (most of these are only missing their final scene) and more Backer content to add. In addition to these things I also want to make the Concert minigame playable through the Main Menu. There are actually more songs from the game itself that have been adapted for the minigame, and I'm looking forward to you getting the chance to try them out.
And lastly, this is more of a "maybe", but there are some half-baked remnants of the Black Hole system from Virgo in the code, and Anglerman is very interested in making that into a reality to give players more avenues of having fun with the combat outside of the main story content.
I want to finish this by saying, that for all of you who have enjoyed the game itself but had a bad experience because of bugs and crashes, I am truly sorry, and I hope to do everything I can to give you a chance to experience the game in a better light as soon as possible.

It was my birthday yesterday, but I’m the one bringing the gifts today because I have some exciting news to announce - and a brand new trailer to go with it!
First off - Keylocker is launching in Summer 2024. That’s very soon, and we can’t wait to share B0B0’s full journey across Saturn with you. Right now we’re putting the finishing touches on the game, preparing for all of the marketing work that goes into launch, and getting Keylocker ready for porting. And speaking of consoles, our second announcement…
Keylocker will also be coming to Xbox at launch! We got to announce this news today at an ID@Xbox event which is pretty big for us, this event is quite eventful, after all! The revolution to overthrow the Saturnian Satellites needs as many people as possible, and now gamers on Xbox can join the rebellion.
Finally, our last piece of news today: Keylocker will be published by Serenity Forge. They’ve already worked on the console releases of Virgo Versus the Zodiac last year, and their resources and efforts have been tremendously helpful in freeing up the Moonana Games team to focus on development. I’d like to give a special thanks to our producer Tim who has been fighting all the odds for us on the forefront of this development! It’s been hard for everyone and he’s been making it a tad easier!
