The UNBEATABLE '23 Update: UNBEATABLE X NOISZ SL
Revealed at The UNBEATABLE '23, we're reviving our collaboration with Anarch Entertainment's NOISZ series, bringing the UNBEATABLE X NOISZ STΔRLIVHT crossover back to [white label]! The update, releasing next Tuesday (November 21st), comes with brand new, revised charts for both Synthion's "True" and Iris' "Done In Love".
Also - the songs will remain in UNBEATABLE [white label] for the foreseeable future, and arrive in the final, full game as a part of the base song list!
Mirror returns in the NOISZ SL x UNBEATABLE collab!

THE UNBEATABLE '23 FINALS

We'll be streaming the main event, our yearly-run tournament, with the finalists competing to take this year's crown for the world's UNBEATABLE [white label] champion! The lead commentator for the event will be Jeffrey ("CHI XU"), the producer for the game.
The tournament starts November 18th @ 8 PM ET, and will be streamed on D-CELL GAMES' official Twitch (twitch.tv/dcell_official). See bob 859, c2ph, clink35, doubleyou, novalis, Rose, Shawn, and our defending champion Stellaris duke it out in one night! Like last year, there'll be no major announcements during the stream.

We thought we’d give a few surprises to celebrate the occasion while the team’s been hard at work on the full game, including the release of PATCH V1.0.10, the start of The UNBEATABLE ‘23 season, a progress update on the final game, and more!
[white label] V1.0.10: CHART OVERHAUL 2.0
All of our levels, known by the community as charts or beatmaps, are getting a major refresh in UNBEATABLE [white label]’s newest patch, arriving today! Over the course of the past few months, we’ve been overhauling all of our levels to match the quality of the stuff we’re doing for the final game, and as a part of the [white label] 2nd Year Anniversary, we’re updating [white label] to include these revised charts!
These charts were edited with the help of our current charting team lineup: CHI XU (Jeff), TaroNuke and Cheryl Stelli, giving more variety to each track!
It’s more than just reworked levels too - this comes with re-balanced difficulty ratings and a renaming of our current lineup of difficulties to similarly match with the changes we’re making to the final game.
Here’s a handy reference on difficulty name changes:
Beginner → Beginner (no change!)
Easy → Normal
Normal → Hard
Hard → Expert
UNBEATABLE → UNBEATABLE (no change!)
For those comfortable with the game’s toughest levels, you’ll primarily notice fixes and minor adjustments here-and-there, but for everyone else, you should expect a more forgiving entry-level difficulty curve, as well as a substantial uplift to the quality of those charts. To see all current difficulty ratings and the current tracklist, see the chart below:
We’ll be monitoring feedback on the revised charts, so if you have thoughts on them, feel free to leave them in the Steam forums or the UNBEATABLE feedback channel in our Discord, as well as the Steam forums for [white label]!
NEW STAR CHART + QOL CHANGES
TaroNuke’s first STAR-chart releases today in the [white label] V1.0.10 patch! Introducing “NUKLEAR”, the alternate Lv. 18 for WAITING - LUMENA-TAN REMIX! Here’s a comment from TaroNuke on the design behind this chart:
“Feeling inspired, I decided to create a chart that simulates a feeling of playing DDR. Place one index finger on each lane button, and punch the keys as if they're your legs!”
In addition, we brought [white label] up to parity with our most recent changes with the main game, which includes several tweaks and improvements to the main rhythm gameplay. Let us know what you think!
Important PSA: Story progress (but not game settings / high scores) will be reset in the new patch, as a result of internal changes to our saving mechanisms.
THE UNBEATABLE EVENT RETURNS
Our now-annual event, THE UNBEATABLE, returns with THE UNBEATABLE ‘23, featuring a community-focused fanart event and competitive tournament featuring the world’s most UNBEATABLE players!
QUALIFIERS BEGIN TODAY FOR THE UNBEATABLE TOURNAMENT
That’s right! We’re bringing our [white label] tournament back, time kicking it off with a qualifiers set (available to play in the V1.0.10 tourney mode), consisting of the following tracks:
To participate, join the Discord, check announcements, and bust out your video recording software. Follow the instructions in the event channels to learn how to submit your qualifying scores!
The top 7 players will qualify to partake in the event, hosted live on D-CELL’s official Twitch! Last year was handled as a Invitational, but this time, most of the participants will be joining through this qualifier, with Stellaris defending their title!
THE UNBEATABLE ‘23 will air later in the Summer, with the final date to be announced shortly after the Qualifiers wrap. We’ll be sharing more details on the event (prizes, side events, commentators, etc.) in the coming weeks, so keep an eye here if you’re interested in participating in the festivities!
SUBMISSIONS ARE OPEN FOR THE ART SHOW
Want your art featured during The UNBEATABLE ‘23 livestream, as well as our social media? We’ll be opening up THE UNBEATABLE ‘23 ART SHOW, hosted on the Discord-Cell Games server’s “horse-museum-3” channel.
Last year, we had the theme of “Competition”, but this year, our theme is “SUMMER”! Whatever it be the beach boardwalk, the starry nights, or the comfort of box fans, we want to see submissions that best capture the feeling of the warmest season of the year! To participate, all you have to do is submit your creations, whatever it be 2D / 3D artwork, animation, or more!
Submissions will be open from now until June 9nd. Full rules are present here, as well as the Discord (where submissions will be handled!). Once submissions close, voting will be open from June 9nd-June 23rd, where the community will be able to vote for their favorite pieces. The studio at D-CELL will also vote for their top pick too, and both picks will be prominently featured as the main event artwork for The UNBEATABLE ‘23’s competitive event!
New GUITAR TABS for UNBEATABLE: DEMO TAPES
Long-requested by many, we’re releasing official guitar tabs of several of the game’s tracks, written by peak divide’s Clara! Tabs are made for EMPTY DIARY, FAMILIAR, PROPER RHYTHM, and WAITING! We’re adding these to our new "EXTRAS" page on our website, which you can see here!
We'll also be bringing the tabs to other places (i.e. sites like Ultimate Guitar Tabs) sometime soon.

[RHYTHM] Difficulty names are now changed. Going forward, we will refer to difficulties using the revised names. You can see the old → new names here:
- Beginner → Beginner (no change)
- Easy → Normal (new)
- Normal → Hard (new)
- Hard → Expert (new)
- UNBEATABLE → UNBEATABLE (no change!)
[RHYTHM] Camera has been adjusted to give anticipatory zoom-outs during camera changes. Changes affect the "Reduce Camera Motion" option too, with its own set of tweaks. Reticle added to prevent motion sickness.
[RHYTHM] Measure lines are added and can be toggled on and off in the game's options.
[RHYTHM] Black bar lanes are now included to help better distinguish up and down lanes.
[RHYTHM] TOURNEY Mode has been re-enabled, featuring the Qualifiers set for THE UNBEATABLE ‘23 event. This set will be available in the menu to play until June 7th.

[RHYTHM] Our first pass of UNBEATABLE’s difficulty rating system is here! You can see the level of each song next to its difficulty in the song select. Ratings here are not final and subject to change. You can see a spreadsheet of all the ratings here (as well as a credits list for every beatmap in the game).
[RHYTHM] The offset wizard currently gives results based on visual latency, but not audio latency. For the time being, the wizard has adjusted text / UI elements to reflect this, and a offset wizard for audio latency will be implemented at a later date.
[RHYTHM] Removal of the licensed NOISZ SL tracks, Iris’ Done In Love and Synthion’s True. We are grateful to the NOISZ SL team for letting us include these songs in the game since the launch of [white label]!

So, how's production on the game going?
Since we last talked, the team has continued making great progress on the story mode.
First and foremost are the litany of visual enhancements we've brought to the game! Characters now display dynamic rimlighting to help them pop against the environment, all of which is affected by both the sun and the plethora of dynamic light sources we have added to each environment. This has been combined with an overhaul of our material and surface shaders - every object in the game now has defined paint strokes that catch the light at different times of day in just the right way, which, coupled with the refined cel-shading, helps lend each environment a lovely, hand-crafted feel…
That wide variety of lighting conditions, from early mornings to gorgeous sunsets, isn't just there as eye candy, either - depending on the time of day, certain activities, characters, and events become accessible. For example, you can't use the batting cage when it's closed! Hell, you can barely use it when it's open. It's very difficult. It has maybe (???) killed people?
We've also been carving out more of the game's environments, and have completed an early pass of several explorable locations. Our day/night system allows us to handcraft lighting at all times of the day, allowing us to carve out light and shadow in the precise places the artists want.
We've spent lots of time running around just to soak in the vibes. This is probably the twentieth time someone has said this, but it's starting to look more and more like a real video game.
Our new tools engineer, Sam Chiet (welcome to the team!), has also helped us develop cutscene tools to streamline further the process of constructing the many scenes present in the overworld.
This marked his first major task as a part of the project, going above and beyond in servicing a tool that is not only intuitive but also filled with cute flourishes, such as this wonderful little doodle of Beat…

Everyone else on the animation team has been hard at work putting together tons of cinematics and storytelling flourishes - all the animation being put together looks absolutely phenomenal. That said, as much as we would love to show off that work, avoiding spoilers comes first, so… we'll hold off on that for now.
In addition to all the new tracks and charts we've added, Peak Divide has also been putting together a bunch of brand new BGM for the overworld. You may have already heard the night version via UNBEATABLE DEMO TAPES, but check out a preview of the day version of "homework salad"!
Both Jeff and their co-charter Cheryl are also workshopping how we rate difficulty for the final version of the game. Tentatively, we're working with a scale of Lv. 1 to Lv. 25. For those interested in seeing this in practice, we'll be deploying the first pass of our current difficulty ratings in the upcoming patch for UNBEATABLE [white label]: PATCH V1.0.9!
Despite all of our progress, we still have a looong way to go - "game development takes a while" is, perhaps, the understatement of the century. However, everyone on the team is so excited about what we've built thus far and there's so much we just can't wait to share with you all. This update is just a taste of things to come!

Last week, we announced that we're coming to MAGFest! And now, we're excited to share more details about the merch, exclusive songs, and our competitive event today.
Most of the main team will be here, alongside two of our remixers, Dante and Lumena-tan! We'll have several setups featuring an event-exclusive version of UNBEATABLE [white label]. If you're coming to the event, come say hi!

Our competitive event, UNBEATABLE: MAGFest 2023, will feature a new circuit, featuring the event exclusive songs and their hardest beatmaps! The highest score will win a full set of our currently available merch, including the new poster! Some of the competition from this year will be returning, so you better be prepared if you want to win!
Winter Break
A majority of the staff will be on break from the 16th to the start of next year. Though some of us will pop back in occasionally to help with the sunsetting of the SLACKER BACKER and the release of the new [white label] patch, do expect responses and messages from us to be slow over the holidays.

New songs are coming to [white label]!
Two new songs are coming to UNBEATABLE [white label] as free updates! We will also be bringing them into the base tracklist for the final game too!
First, we're excited to announce a new remix - a special VRC6 rendition of WAITING by Lumena-tan! This new song will be playable in an upcoming patch (PATCH V1.0.9), slated for the end of December.
The second inclusion will be a new, original song for the game, releasing in early 2023! We'll be sharing more details about this surprise in the near future, so stay tuned!
NOISZ Crossover Update
Since the launch of [white label], we've had a few crossover songs and remixes for you to enjoy! Two of those were crossover songs from the game NOISZ STΔRLIVHT, which we added as a part of a collaboration with the team at Anarch Entertainment. As the licensing period of this cross-promotion will be coming to a close at the end of the year, the following songs will be removed from UNBEATABLE [white label] on Steam and Itch.io beginning December 31st, 2022:

We are very thankful to the NOISZ SL team for allowing us to showcase their music in our game, and to make up for it, we hope you all enjoy the new song additions that will follow.
You have until December 31st, 2022 at 2 PM EST to play these crossover songs in UNBEATABLE [white label], in which they'll be removed alongside the launch of PATCH V1.0.9.
(At this point in time, we do not have any additional current or planned cross-promotions that fall into a timed licensing window.)

To participate, download the latest patch of the game and select the "TOURNEY" mode upon selecting Play. Normal song play is available under "ARCADE" mode. Be sure to record full video submissions and submit in the requisite channels in order for your scores to qualify! Incomplete submissions will still receive a Discord Role. The submission period will be from 5/23/22 at 6PM EDT to 5/29/22 at 11:59PM EDT!

Today, we’re formally announcing THE UNBEATABLE ‘22 - our first invitational tournament for [white label], streaming online this Summer!
We’ve done competitive events before, but this will be the first time we’re putting the best of the best in head-to-head matches! Players will compete in rounds to get the best total score, with three semi-final matches and one conclusive battle between three surviving players. This will be live-streamed on D-CELL’s official twitch!
THE PLAYERS
The Invitational will include 6 players - 4 of which are returning champions from past UNBEATABLE events. Please welcome the following:
ZEEYANG - The winner of [white label]’s very first tournament, ARCADE FINALS! This will be his first competitive event since last year, now put to the test against the winners that have succeeded him!
PUNCHY - One of [white label]’s top players and the winner of the BONUS FINALS circuit, Punchy is a rhythm game enthusiast whose scores have instilled fear amongst the community. This is your chance to catch his plays live!
YaBoiOGMA - The winner of UNBEATABLE: MAGFest 2022, YaBoiOgma has shown his skills in front of the dev team's very eyes! How will he stack against the rest of the world’s top UNBEATABLE players?
Milky Moo - The winner of UNBEATABLE: MAGFest 2020 (the first-ever competitive event for the game), he returns to challenge his local rival, YaBoiOgma. Can he take the MAGFest crown back?
The remaining 2 are to be decided through “THE UNBEATABLE ‘22 QUALIFIERS”, set to start from May 23rd (6 PM EST) to May 30th (at Midnight EST). The game will be patched to include the qualifiers circuit as a menu option during this period. For more details on how to participate, join our Discord and retrieve the Event role, which will provide submission rules and more. The circuit’s setlist will be revealed when the event kicks off!

THE UNBEATABLE '22 ART SHOW
For those who want to participate in a different kind of community event, we'll be running our second art contest, beginning on May 23rd @ 6 PM EST (the same time as the qualifiers), and lasting until June 23rd (Midnight EST)!
Unlike last time, there will be a theme (hint: it has to do with the tournament!). The top picks from both D-CELL and the community will be the banner artwork for the show! And, on top of that, all submissions will be featured during intermissions (of the Invitational stream).
We had a lot of fun seeing the community come together with last year's art contest and wanted to find a fun way to bring both the competitive and creative scenes together for an event that everyone can have fun participating in!

An anniversary patch for UNBEATABLE [white label] was released last night during our celebration stream, adding a new STAR-chart and addressing some minor issues - take a look below!
(BEATMAPS) WAITING [CLEVELAND], the latest STAR-chart, is now available! The chart is named after the guitarist who performed the song’s infamous guitar solo.
(BEATMAPS) Made a tiny adjustment to WAITING on (Hard) and (UNBEATABLE), fixing hold notes that were not timed properly.
(QOL) Fixed an issue where the main menu does not appear sometimes after quitting a song.
