The Necesse Rust & Romance Update is now live!
As always, if you haven’t gotten the update on Steam yet, then try to restart Steam or verify game files.
This also means that the Necesse Steam Free Weekend has just started! If you want your friends to try the game, this weekend is perfect for that! Necesse is also on a 50% sale. It's the largest discount since 1.0, so now is a great time to pick it up 😊
If you missed our trailer for the update, check it out here:
Alright, we added a TON of stuff in this update. So let's get to it! While your previous saves will work with this update, we still highly recommend starting a new world to get the full experience.
Settler Personalities
The settlers were always something I wanted to give more depth. This update does just that by introducing personalities to each settler. They're also more lively in your settlement as we've replaced work breaks with recreation time.
Personalities are split into two different variants. Perks and preferences. The perks improve certain things the settlers are good at, such as combat prowess or work efficiency. Whereas the preferences focus more on the settler's needs and wants.
If you spend a lot of time finding and optimizing your settlers, they can become quite crazy combat allies or speedy workers in your settlement.
Our friendly dev Jonas rambled through a whole video about personalities. You can check it out here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZK6iit552aE
Romance ❤️
As the name suggests, Necesse Rust & Romance brings a brand new romance system to the game.
It is now possible to start dating your settlers by bringing them a pretty flower! When you do, you'll be lead on a series of unique romance quests, which may lead to them falling for you...
But I'll leave the details out, for you to discover 😘
The Scrapyard
This update introduces a new tier 8 incursion: The Scrapyard.
It's filled with new enemy types, weapons and armor you can craft. And of course a new unique boss which has a chance to drop a fun new toy.
Bigger Biomes & The Charred Forest
We're still on the mission to make Necesse the best game it can be. One of the major points of feedback since the 1.0 were the new biome sizes. This update tries to fix that by making them much bigger, and we'd love to know what you think.
But beware when exploring the bigger biomes! There have been sightings of large patches of Charred Forests, fiery birds in the sky and forgotten golems in the ash...
And those were just the major features. We've also added a lot more smaller changes, quality of life and bug fixes. Here are a few of them!
Added 2 new craftable summon weapons in the early game.
Added the Transmutation Station used to easily convert Essences in the end game.
Added 29 new cool objects that grant happiness to settlers in the room they are placed.
Fixed a bug that nerfs the Bashy Bush summon weapon (sorry, not sorry).
Added a settler list in the top left, while in the settlement menu and a better command menu.
Added 4 new achievements!
You can read the full changelog below.
With this update, we've brought a lot of changes to the systems you know, and we'd love to hear your feedback on them. Even though it has gotten more time consuming, I do still read all the reviews and feedback that comes in. So don't hold back! 😊
Lastly I’d also like to personally shout out our amazing community translators who've been helping us translating this update before it went live. Thank you so much for your hard work!
Enjoy the update everyone! - Fair

Hey everyone!
This Thursday on April 9th, we’re releasing a small update that adds a bunch of secrets for you to find in Necesse!
Some will be cosmetic, while others will be new weapons and trinkets. There will be both references from our devs to other games and some official collab content from some of the games that inspired us while making Necesse.
It’s been a pleasure to see all the new and old people exploring Necesse since our 1.0 update.
In the meantime, we’ve been hard at work on the next major content update for Necesse. Instead of pushing out smaller features and updates, we’re going to bring some larger, much-requested changes to Necesse coming this summer.
It’ll include all the features planned on our living roadmap’s spring and summer update, as well as more unannounced stuff. As always, we’ll share more and start to tease some of that content as we get closer to the update.
See you on Thursday, and happy Easter to everyone celebrating! - Fair

To celebrate the update and Christmas, we're also taking part in the Steam Winter Sale with a 35% discount on Necesse on Steam!
If you haven’t gotten the update on Steam yet, then try to restart Steam or verify game files.
Last week we put together a juicy teaser trailer for the update! Check it out below:
If you'd like to see more of stuff like this, make sure to follow our socials! You can find them at the bottom of this post.
After releasing Necesse 1.0 back in October, the team has been taking some well deserved vacation. Which also means that this update isn't as big as our usual major content updates.
Alright, let's dive into the update! This time around we've chosen to focus on in-game balancing, adventure party improvements and adding more critters/wildlife to Necesse.
We have buffed the resilience gain on true melee weapons quite a bit and also improved a lot of resilience trinkets. While we know that this isn't a final solution for making true melee as viable as all the other classes, we believe that it's a step in the right direction.
We have also slightly buffed the health of all Incursion content while reducing the overall damage of Incursion enemies. The intent here is to prevent powerful builds from making bosses irrelevant by killing them in a few seconds, while also not making you die quickly in just a couple of hits. We'll make sure to monitor feedback for this change over the coming weeks, so don't hesitate to submit feedback in-game or on our socials if Incursions feel too hard/easy. Note that we can't respond to feedback submitted in-game.
As mentioned on our roadmap, we've also made some improvements to adventure parties and settlement management in general. You can now search for settlers by name/role and also assign them to specific groups. This way you'll only need to do a single click to select the settlers you want to bring with you, when it's time to go spelunking.
We have also brought some new friends to the world of Necesse! Friendly creatures such as butterflies, fireflies, cave cropplers... And sharks. Sharks are friendly right?
Some of the other features in this update include:
Maps for the Chieftain, Cursed Chrone and Sage & Grit. Similar to Dungeon/Pirate maps.
3 new perks for the Incursion Perk Tree.
3 new Incursion quests and quest rewards. Including the 8th trinket slot as a reward!
Recipes for a lot more cave rock tiles, walls and doors.
Settlers are now immune to damage for 5 seconds after being revived.
The Clockwork Heart trinkets now also causes excess healing from potions to restore resilience.
A ton of fixes to issues reported by you <3
You can read the full changelog below.
I'd also once again like to personally thank everyone who purchased and played Necesse during the launch of 1.0. It has been absolutely breathtaking to see all of you enjoy our game and we can't wait to show what we have planned for Necesse in 2026.
Enjoy the update and the holidays everyone! - Fair

Hey everyone!
Steam Award nominations are now open, and we would love your support by nominating Necesse for the Better With Friends award!
We hope everyone has enjoyed the 1.0 as much as we've enjoyed reading all your feedback :D There are still some things to iron out, and we're working on that as well as other improvements.
Necesse has been my life's work, and I am beyond grateful to see so many people enjoying it. The game was built with your feedback and support over several years in early access. Initially, I planned Necesse to be a much smaller game, but your support has allowed me to keep working on and expanding it. Thank you <3
Even after so many years, I somehow still haven't grown tired of working on it. We've got some stuff cooking for next year as well, and we're obviously still reading all your feedback on how to shape the game going forward. So make sure to share your feedback and leave a review! :)

If you're running a dedicated server and use the -XX:+UseG1GC launch option, I would recommend also adding -XX:+ExplicitGCInvokesConcurrent. I've also added these options to the dedicated server tool launch scripts.
You can always access older versions by going the game's properties in Steam and under the "Betas" tab.

Hey everyone!
We’d like to thank you all for being a part of the amazing Necesse 1.0 launch. I can’t even begin to tell you how exciting it’s been for the whole team to see all of you take on our new content and enjoy it to its fullest :D
We peaked at nearly 30K concurrent players last weekend and since the launch, we’ve had over 400K players try out 1.0! That’s insane!
As we are still bugfixing, hotfixing and just fixing stuff in general. We’re also looking ahead to the future of Necesse and thought we’d share some of our plans with all of you.
Below I’ve linked a brand new Necesse post 1.0 roadmap showcasing some of the features to come in future content updates.
I'll also mention that the exclusive 50% launch discount on Necesse is still live for another week, so if you or your friends are considering buying Necesse, now is the time to do so before the sale disappears.
From everyone here at Fair Games. Thank you so much for being part of an amazing 1.0 launch! We couldn't have done it without you <3
