Fans of Formula 1®️ will finally be able to get a taste of the action during F1®️ 22’s Free Play Weekend*, 20th – 24th October. Players will have the chance hit the track, take the wheel and earn their place at the top of the podium.

In addition to the Free Play Weekend, players of F1®️ 22 will receive the new My Team Icon Mika Häkkinen for free. Players will be able to claim him by logging into their in-game inbox and adding the iconic and championship-winning driver to their My Team lineup from 10pm BST on Oct 17 until Nov 7th.**

Furthermore, all racers will also receive free US-inspired content, to celebrate the sport’s return to the Circuit of the Americas for the United States Grand Prix™️, 21st – 23rd October. The Stars and Stripes livery, helmet, race suit, and gloves will be available in-game from 17th October and can be claimed via the in-game inbox.

F1®️ 22 players will also receive “The Griddy”, the dance craze that took the US sports scene by storm. The dance finally makes its way into F1®️ 22 for all player-created drivers and is sure take podium celebrations to an entirely new level. Available to redeem in game for free from October 17th.

Between 20th October and 1st November, Steam players who purchase the full game will receive up to 50% off the Standard and Deluxe Edition of F1®️ 22. Those who play F1®️ 22 during the Free Play Weekend and decide to purchase the full game will keep all their claimed items and progress. New and existing fans will also be able to enter the Daniel Ricciardo’s challenge, exclusive to F1®️ 22.†

Codemasters® and Electronic Arts in partnership with Formula 1®, today released the launch-day Driver Ratings for EA SPORTS F1® 22, releasing on July 1 on PC. Filmed in Baku and Canada with the 2022 line-up, teammates came together for a ‘Guess the Rating’ challenge, with cameras rolling to capture every moment, including the rating reveal. The dynamic ratings in the game’s My Team mode will update every few races, reflecting the action and drama on and off the track.

For the first time, Codemasters has changed the algorithm, so the stats are more representative of a driver’s current form and less reliant on their legacy. Formula 1® experts Anthony Davidson, David Croft, and Alex Jacques have also collaborated with the studio to look beyond the pure data and separate man from machine. The launch day ratings are compiled up to and including this year’s FORMULA 1 GRAND PRIX DE MONACO 2022. The dynamic ratings are broken into four categories alongside an overall score. The categories are:

Experience (EXP): This is based on the number of race starts a driver has over the course of their career

Racecraft (RAC): The driver’s ability to work their way through the pack and finish in a higher position than where they started

Awareness (AWA): The less time spent in the Steward’s room will help drivers here. Real-world punishments will impact the score in this category

Pace (PAC): Benefits those who get closest to the fastest qualifying and race lap times. A driver beating their teammate is also taken into consideration

Rating (RTG): The combination of the previous four ratings. This overall rating will go up and down throughout the season based on performance

“Now a mainstay for other EA SPORTS titles, our dynamic Driver Ratings continue to stir the drivers' emotions, and it’s great to see the camaraderie and banter between teammates,” said Paul Jeal, F1 Senior Franchise Director at Codemasters. “Our new panel of F1 experts will work closely with us to ensure F1 22 reflects what happens on the track, and we know the updates will lead to even more debate over the course of the season.”

The F1® 22 Driver Ratings are a key element of My Team, the driver-owner game mode. New for 2022, My Team now includes three starting points: Newcomer, Midway Challenger, and Championship Contender, allowing players to decide if they want to work their way up from the bottom or go for the win straight out of the gate.

F1® 22 will release July 1, 2022, on PC via Steam. Players can pre-order the digital-only F1® 22 Champions Edition for additional content and three days of early access*.

F1® 22 showcased the breadth of gameplay features that await players when the game releases worldwide on July 1 for PC. The redefined race weekend adds excitement and drama the moment the drivers hit the track for the 2022 FIA Formula One World Championship™. Taking control of the revolutionary cars with improved physics to accommodate the new aero rules, players can now experience the F1® Sprint and immersive race day moments such as formation laps, safety car moments, and pit stops. The Pirelli Hot Lap with eight supercars adds a new dimension before the action heats up across this season’s circuits, including updates to Spain, Australia and Abu Dhabi and the FORMULA 1 CRYPTO.COM MIAMI GRAND PRIX.

“F1 22 allows players to live their Formula 1 fantasies both on and off the track,” said Lee Mather, F1® Senior Creative Director at Codemasters. ""Players are excited to enter the new era of Formula 1 with the introduction of new cars, regulations, and more control of race day moments. F1 22 enables players to be more social with their friends away from the circuit. The personalised space within F1 Life allows players to show off their collection of must-have cars and accessories and be the envy of friends and rivals.”

To assist new players, F1® 22 features Adaptive AI, tailoring the experience to their current skill level, enabling competitive racing from the moment they hit the track. With the addition of accessible handling, players can remove the complexities and have the option to increase the difficulty at the end of every race weekend. The improved Practice Programs encourage players to learn the circuit thanks to enhanced on-track visuals, helping to improve lap times ahead of battling for a place on the podium.

F1® Life is the new social hub that allows players to show off their collection of supercars, fashion accessories, and trophies. In-game character personalisation extends beyond the track with branded clothes and accessories players can collect through in-game challenges, Podium Pass, brand shop, and the in-game store. Upon entering the game, players begin at their personal hub, which acts as the Multiplayer lobby, allowing access to friends’ avatars and collections.

F1® 22 Champions Edition players also receive new My Team Icons, Jacques Villeneuve, Mark Webber and Nico Hülkenberg, and two drivable safety cars: the Mercedes-AMG GT Black Series and Aston Martin Vantage for use in Time Trial. With improved UI for easier navigation and updated authentic broadcast visuals, including podium sequences and driver video walls, there has never been a better time to take to the grid.

Alongside all the new innovations, including VR for PC players, F1® 22 expands its features for players with the return of My Team, now with three starting points, the acclaimed 10-year Career with two-player functionality, and Multiplayer including offline split-screen.

That's not all we have for you in Podium Pass Series 5. Last time out, we unveiled items inspired by creators Aarava, Terroriser, and Pieface. In this Series, you'll be able to unlock items inspired by Tiametmarduk and MaximeMXM in the free tier.

Fans of Tiametmarduk will recognise his channel logo and iconic purple, black, and gold colour scheme from his Career mode and if you're an avid follower of MaximeMXM, you’ll notice that her real-life helmet inspired the virtual version.

As the lights go out on Series 5, we spoke to Tiametmarduk and MaximeMXM.

Hey Tiametmarduk, would you mind talking us through your set of items?

My items feature my channel logo, clothing brand, and in-game career mode team ‘Marduk Motorsport’. Each element is tied in with a purple, black and gold colour scheme, which fits with what I’ve been using for my own team since F1® 2020. I love the little details that have gone into each piece, like the TMDK sticker bomb and the hidden easter eggs on the car.

What were your inspirations?

I’ve always been a fan of the colour purple, especially on cars. Some of my inspiration has come from McLaren and other supercars, but the biggest has been Lewis Hamilton. In Abu Dhabi 2020 he ran a purple, black and gold design which looked gorgeous as a colour combination.

What are you most looking forward to when these go live?

Seeing everyone’s reactions to the items. There’s something so exciting about having a creation brought to life! Personally, I can’t wait to try it out in my Career and Road to Master Rank Series. I hope players enjoy the items and I look forward to seeing them in-game.

Hi MaximeMXM! Could you talk us through your set of items?

The set of items represents me and my style! It’s incredible to see my items and logo in the official F1® game. I never dared to dream that this would happen in my life.

What inspirations did you have for these?

The helmet is inspired by my real-life race helmet. The livery is a mix of my favourite liveries of all time. Like some of the Red Bull test liveries! Besides that, some other details were added to represent the Netherlands.

What are you most looking forward to when these go live?

I’m looking forward to seeing the reactions from my community! It was already an honour to be in ‘My Team’ with a social media profile, but to have your own livery in the game is next level! I want to thank everyone for their support. Without them, this wouldn’t be possible.

Each creator has inspired their stunning set, including livery, helmet, gloves, and suit, all available for you to unlock in the Podium Pass free tier and take out on track.

However you prefer to spend your time in F1® 2021, you'll be able to increase your XP, quickly race through the tier and unlock these incredible items. Head to our Podium Pass challenges, and you'll be able to earn even more XP. If you've got PitCoin to spare, you can also check out the Item Shop regularly to purchase whatever takes your fancy.

There are eight weeks to complete Podium Pass Series 5, so you have plenty of time to put your foot down and get into gear. Don't forget your XP and tier progress will be reset at the beginning of each Series.
