Hey all, this week we're bringing out a whole host of revamps, refinements, and changes to the core of Super Squad!

Menu Updates – the Menus have had a complete overhaul in preparation for controller support.
In-match Levelling – level up your Trooper and gain access to passives and actives without needing a store!
New Intro Video and Tutorial – a new story driven tutorial with a lore teasing intro video has been added to the game!
Throwable Ability Rework – we've reworked the throwable system, allowing you to more easily fire off abilities around the map.
In-game Controller Support – what it says on the tin. Menu support and rebinding will be coming in the near future.
Map Updates – Martian Town has been reworked and Underbelly has a new set of lights!
House Keeping – Check out the bottom of the notes for tweaks, changes, and bug fixes.

Now, let’s take a look at the changes in more detail:
Menu Updates:
We’re overhauling the menus in anticipation of controller support coming into the game! Menus have had a stylistic update to them, bring them more in line when with the direction of the game and story which we’re introducing this patch. The menus also work differently now, working on tiles and layers rather than clicking small buttons.
We’ve also updated our custom match and invite systems, so you can more easily add people into your party and get into game! But if you want to head into the regular queue from a custom lobby, you'll need to disband your lobby first and leave the custom match area.
Some screens aren’t there yet, as you can see by some of the “Coming Soon” text on buttons. They’ll be along soon with all of your stats that you’ve gotten in the game so far (we haven't lost them!), and you’ll still be earning different forms of XP in the background. Don’t worry it’ll all be updated with your stats soon!
In Match Levelling:
We’re added levelling up into a match and refined the passive and active systems in the process. Now, as you play the game you’ll be earning XP (passively, getting kills, assists, and capturing crystals). At levels 1 and 3 you’ll get a choice of 4 Passives to choose from, and at level 2 you’ll get a choice of 4 Actives to choose from. Rather than limiting items by role, each Trooper now has their own pool of diverse items that should make for some interesting builds and tactics.
We’ve removed buying items, so now you’ll only be spending shards on defences around the maps. This means there are no more stores on the map - instead you'll get a small pop-up prompting you to press B to choose your item.
New Intro Video and Tutorial:
We’ve added a new tutorial into the game, which introduces you to the story of Super Squad and plays out inside of the Portal Realm – the Nexus of all Realities. It’s really quick and shows you not only how to control your Trooper, but also how to win a game of domination.
Whenever you play the tutorial, you’ll see the story cinematic beforehand where the a mysterious voice talks to you, hinting at how the different factions were sucked into the portal realm.

Throwable Ability Rework:
The way abilities are thrown has been completely reworked. There’s no more dotted line along the arc when aiming the ability, now it will just throw as long as it’s a valid location in range. This means you can throw over buildings and tall objects, but bear in mind that it will take time to travel over the obstacle and the ability will not hit right away.
In-Game Controller Support:

This has been a highly requested feature for a while now, so we’re excited to announce controller support in the game! This is only inside of a match at the moment, with menu controller support and rebinding coming soon.
Map Updates:
Martian Colony: Redesign
We're headed over to a whole different area of New Mars for this rework, with a new layout and complete new aesthetics!
Underbelly: Lighting Rework
The Underbelly is back, and the brand new lighting is making her look shipshape!
House Keeping:
Trooper Rotation
Damage Dealers:
- Sarge, the front line soldier that spins his way through the battlefield.
- Our long-range pirate Sniper Crow, who specialises in assassinating people from off screen.
- Scorch, the gadget loving pyromaniac from the Military.
Tank:
- Skull Crusher, the giant Pirate who simply refuses to go down in a brawl.
Healer:
- Florp, the alien medic that just wants people to stop shooting at him.
Support:
- Supreme Overlord Nebular, who dominates the battlefield from afar, letting his allies do the grunt work.
Tweaks and Changes:

Bot difficulties have been tweaked, keeping them as deadly as they were at Gold 1, but scaling them up at bit when first starting out to give new players a bit more of a challenge.
Movement Speed has been slightly increased.
Bot Nebular now uses Energy Wall. (He didn't want to, but we made him.)
Bug Fixes:

Removed some of the brief flashes (of background levels or a white screens) that were happening when you were loading into levels or back to the main menu.
Fix for hanging on connecting to servers after Squad Select while going into a match
Fixed an issue where sometimes when adding players to a party their names were not be visible.
The change to the throwable ability system should now have ironed out and of the last bugs that were caused inside of this system.
Battle Medic and Laser Shot muzzle locations have been fixed, they were slightly off centre.
We believe we've fixed the issue where Trooper's could spawn with the incorrect UI, we haven't seen this in long enough to be sure that our fix covers everything.
Fixed an issue where sometimes Sarge was visually selected in squad select, we haven't seen this in long enough to be sure that our fix covers everything.
Known Issues:

Some particle Effects are not rendering properly, we’re tracking this down and working on a fix.
By pressing the ` key (next to 1 on qwerty keyboards) you will enter an Ai testing mode. This has no in game benefits for players, but we’re running dev builds so we can debug the game. If you do this your camera can get disconnected from your character. If you do this in base you can get stuck in base.
Some players are experiencing random crashes. Some of these have been fixed, but there may be more. If you experience this then join the discord and send over your log files to BadFox_Eddie. You can ask him how to get your log files and he'll help!
Borderless/Windowed/Fullscreen don't seem to be setting properly for some players, let us know any specs or details to help us iron this out.

Now, let’s take a look at the changes in more detail:
Combat Mode:
We’ve added a “combat mode” into the game which refines battles inside of Super Squad making it feel more structured, weighty, and tactical. Combat mode is triggered when you take damage, shoot, or use an ability, but we’ll get more into it down below.
Specifics:

A Trooper’s movement speed while out of Combat is faster than their old speed, making getting around the maps and reacting to the enemy feel that much snappier.
When inside of combat a Trooper’s movement speed is 40% slower than their new base movement speed, adding to the skill of dodging and weaving through shots while going into a fight!
Combat mode is triggered by using an ability, shooting, or taking damage, but dodging does not cause you to enter Combat Mode. It’s all about deciding how and when to engage in the build up to a fight.
When inside of combat mode the camera zooms in a slightly, focusing a player in on the fight and immediate dangers around them.
Combat Mode lasts until a player doesn’t shoot, use an ability, or take damage for 1 second.
Reloading:
We’re excited to bring a new feature to Super Squad that we feel adds so much to the pacing and vibe of the game – Reloading.
Each Trooper now has a maximum number of shots they can fire off before they automatically reload. You can also reload at any time (including during abilities) by pressing the G key, so dipping out and finding some cover to reload is always an option.
Each Trooper takes 1.2 seconds to fully complete a reload, but can be shortened by hitting a “perfect reload” window. If you hit LMB or the G Key inside a small blue coloured window (central 20% of reload time) while reloading, you cut off the remaining time to maximise how quickly you can dish out damage.
Default Key Bindings
The default keys set in game at the moment are abilities on Q, E, R, and F with your reload on G. Half the studio have kept it this way, and half have changed their abilities to 1, 2, 3, and 4 with reload being on the R key.
It’s all rebindable in the options screen, apart from LMB and the bound reload key being used to quick reload.
Domination Redesign:
Mysterious crystals are breaking through the map, tearing apart the battleground underneath the Trooper’s feet! As the world around them crumbles and changes, the Troopers must capture these crystals and kill enemies to gain 100 shards before the enemy team - or face being left behind in a collapsing reality…
Specifics:
We’re revamping domination’s scoring condition, crunching our old “VP” numbers, and revamping the way that defences work in the game!
Now, instead of increasing your VP by capturing points and killing enemies, Domination is centered on collecting SHARDS of reality around the map. If the shard is blue, you or your team can pick it up; if it’s red then only the enemy team can bank it. Killing an enemy and/or capturing and holding a point drops Shards which must be picked up to go towards your score. If an enemy team hasn't picked up their shards and a point is neutralised, then they're destroyed and lost forever... The first team to 100 shards wins the game!
In-game store currency has also been rebranded as Energy.
We’ve changed how defences work. Now players can buy them while running around the map. This is done through the Energy (the in-game Store currency) that players use to buy passives and actives, so more tactical decisions need to be made on how and where you’re spending your Energy!
Tweaks and Changes:

We’ve taken out gaining score from destroying defences as they’re no longer tied to our capture points.
You also no longer gain points from neutralising a crystal, so stay in the zone and make sure to cap it!
Numbers have been crunched by around 10x.
Now you have to actively gain score through picking up shards, rather than passively gaining score.
There is no more grouped respawning, so now every player has their own respawn timer. This stops the feeling of someone dying and then immediately coming to contest a point.
Capture Times have been reduced from 30 seconds to 15.
The Underbelly and Urban Battleground maps are getting some longer term tweaks and changes, so they won't be in this patch, but will be coming back soon with a fresh coat of paint...
AI Refinements:

The bots have had a revamp to their behaviour patterns and priorities. Now they’re less objective focused and more combat focused – they’ll still play the field and try and capture points, but if someone meets them along their way they’ll get distracted and try to take them out before going to complete their mission.
We’ve also added accuracy to the AI abilities, like they have always had on their guns, so they will sometimes miss while trying to hit you – just like players.
As the bots now have accuracy on both their weapons and abilities, we're using these stats to scale the difficulty of bots dependent on the average match rank!
Sound Overhaul:

There’s been a sound overhaul to the game, from menu music to music when you start to regen your health– it’s a bit difficult to explain sound, so have a game and hear the difference!
Make sure to check your volume sliders before you go into game, there are some big sounds in there…

Bug Fixes:

Various Fixes around maps which allowed player to glitch through the floor.
Fixed an issue where Tharlin’s Minor Inconvenience ability would deploy around a Trooper as if he had hit a wall or other object in a level.
Fixed an issue where Fang’s Fetch ability would hit walls or mortars even if they weren’t deployed yet.
Potential fix for an issue where Flintlock’s Mysterious Liquid ability would deploy on the floor and no one would be able to interact with it.
Potential fix for sound crackling.
Fix for the Scorch’s Rain of Fire not leaving the map correctly.
Fix for knockback abilities being able to force players underneath scenery or partially into the floor.
Fix for Scorch’s friendly Rain of Fire refreshing the DoT effect from an enemy Rain of Fire.
Fixed inconsistencies on displaying accolade stats (Damage, Tanking, Healing, Assists) at the end of a match.
Fixed an issue where Sarge’s grenades from his Cluster Grenade ability would all detonate at the initial impact location, but sometimes show the outer explosions without dealing damage in the secondary explosion locations.
Fixed an issue where you could fire shots and deal damage to enemy Troopers inside of their base.
Potential fix for not being able to use the ESC key while in settings to come out of them.
Fixed a bug where you could teleport back into spawn.
Fixed an issue where you could get on top of objects with the Support Store ability Teleport Station.
Fixed an issue where you could be killed after the game ended from DoT effects.
Fixed an issue where bomb drone would go through forcefields and walls if chasing a target.
Fixed an issue where Trigger would avoid Mines and AoE when pathing back to Fang after using the Menacing Bark or Fetch abilities.
Fixed an issue where you could place “deployable” abilities into spawn once you’d left it.
Fixed an issue where Scorch's turret seemed to sometimes fire 2 projectiles.
Known Issues:

If you finish or get past the movement section of the tutorial, go back to the main menu, and then play through the tutorial again it won't load correctly and will think you're on the camera movement section. If you exit out and reload the tutorial it will work fine.
During the movement section of the tutorial you won't be moved to the center of the pads correctly. You will after the shooting objective of the tutorial.

When loading into a game Sarge can sometimes be visually selected in squad select, even though you're on random.

Now, let’s take a look at the changes in more detail:
Squad and Map Select Redesign
The new Squad Select is focusing on keeping all of the old goodness, with a new lick of paint. The design is focused on minimising information at the start, making choices and actions clearer, but making sure the information is a click away if you want to dive into it. We've also had a revamp of the Map Select screen!
It also adds a whole host of new features:

Trooper rotation is now displayed on the Troopers
Chat is now in, by popular demand
We're showing when a Trooper has been picked and when they're locked in by others
All individual Player ranks are now shown
We've still got a few finishing touches to add, but let us know what you think about all the changes, all feedback is welcome and helps us make the game better for the future!
New Map - The Fell Colonies!
The Fell Colonies is home to a race of strong builders and brilliant inventors, including the genius aliens that designed and built Glorgan! There’s plenty to see perched atop the skyscrapers so check out the top of the manufactorium, catch a ride on the monorail, and try and catch a glimpse of Nebular’s statue below…
Asteroid Colony Rework
Something strange was happening on the Asteroid Colony… The ground warped and changed below Nebular’s feet, and sights he thought he recognised were filled with an eerie sense that he’d never seen them before. An unusual power crackled through the air and across his skin; he gasped, jumping back from its touch instinctively. For a moment the fog cleared from his mind and memories flooded his brain – a war spanning the galaxy, a glimpse of Florp’s face full of fear, a portal ripping open time and space – but the memories faded as quickly as they had appeared.
“Nebular?” came a familiar voice from behind him, “What’s wrong?”
A concerned Glorgan had approached him from behind, placing a tentative hand on his shoulder. Nebular shrugged it off uneasily, certain that he had just been thinking about something important, something that he could no longer bring to mind.
“Nothing, it’s merely-” Nebular hesitated, unwilling to voice his fear. “Nothing.”
Trooper Rotation
Damage:
- Sarge, our rapid fire Soldier who excels in the middle of the fray dishing out AoE damage.
- Tharlin, the king under the mountain is burrowing his way to a squad wipe.
Tank:
- Skull Crusher, the smallest Giant from the island of Behemoth, dominates points and knocks skulls together whenever he's on the battlefield.
- Glorgan, "Bleep Bloop".
Healer:
- Florp, the alien medic that just wants people to stop shooting at him
Support:
- Supreme Overlord Nebular, who dominates the battlefield from afar, letting his allies do the grunt work.
Striking a Balance
Rundown:
We’ve got some across the board changes in this patch as well as some balance changes to domination which we want to dive into in this section:
Health Reduction:
Everyone across the board is getting a health reduction of roughly 20%, apart from Skully who’s getting a bit more to bring him in line with the other tanks and help to balance Reserves. The aim of this change is to bring down the time to kill and make ability rotations and landing your shots actually mean something.
Reclassifying:
From watching games, looking at play rates, and listening to the community, we’ve been seeing more love for our damage classes than any of our others. We’re testing out bringing our classes more in line with the damage dealers, so our Supports, Healers, and Tanks are getting a bit of a balance change to improve their damage output while keeping their class' vibe.
They’ve still got all of their functionality – healing, buffing, CC, etc. – but now, when combined with the reduced health this patch, you’re going to have to make more tactical decisions on when and how you use your abilities. Just throwing them out is probably not going to end well.
Domination Changes:

VP Threshold: Changed from 1500 to 1250.
Walls VP Reward: Changed from 5 VP to 2.
Small Mortar VP Reward: Changed from 10 VP to 5.
Large Mortar VP Reward: Changed from 20 VP to 8.
Streak Ender VP Reward: Changed from 50 VP to 30.
Starting Respawn Timer: Changed from 10 to 13 seconds.
Grouped Respawn Timer: Changed from 5 to 3 seconds.

Removed Forced tutorial as part of the new player experience. It is still there in the learn tab, but now it’s a choice.
We’ve redone the way we do our PAK files, making patching faster for those just getting a patch.
Bug Fixes:

Custom Lobby fix for spectator slots not showing the minimap correctly.
Server and queue optimisation, making transitions between screens smoother and getting rid of a. bug where you could be stuck on map select.
Minor fixes to the projectile trails, making sure they die and spawn correctly .
Sound fixes where some sounds were unbound from the audio sliders.
Tweaks to domination score tracking to ensure the data is tracking and recording correctly.
Fixed an issue where some Troopers and their Skins wouldn’t create footstep sounds correctly.
Known Issues:

Sometimes when adding players to a party their names are not be visible. They are in your party and is just a visibility bug.
Occasionally you can get stuck on a map loading screen while going through map select.
When loading into a game Sarge can sometimes be visually selected in squad select, even though you're on random.
Sometimes when getting knocked back Troopers can half go into the floor and need to get stunned out of it.

New Map - The Pirate Docks:
This dockside paradise is the perfect place for Pirates to offload and trade their stolen goods. Whoever controls this town controls Pirate commerce, so get grappling over the gallows, brawling over the beach, or duel it out over control of the docks!
Spectator Camera:
The highly requested spectator camera is being added to Super Squad! Invite your friends to a custom lobby, by clicking the "10 player" button at the top of your squad on the play screen. Make sure that whoever's getting the shots is in the spectator slot and go into your custom match - simple as that!

Locking the camera to Troopers and Points:

This additional info will help you all really dive into the stats and see how you dominated the battlefield!
Trooper Rotation:
Damage:
- Sarge, our rapid fire Soldier who excels in the middle of the fray dishing out AoE damage.
- Flintlock, the suave pirate who can never get enough booty
- Scorch, the gadget loving pyromaniac from the Military
Tank:
- Skull Crusher, the smallest Giant from the island of Behemoth, dominates points and knocks skulls together whenever he's on the battlefield.
Healer:
- Florp, the alien medic that just wants people to stop shooting at him
Support:
- Pan, the real GOAT
Quality of Life Changes

Refined the way our pak files work. This patch will be a big update, but future patches will be much quicker!
Bug Fixes

fixed an issue where audio for abilities wasn’t adjusting to the volume sliders correctly,
fixed an issue where players were getting stuck in the ground inside of spawn in The Abandoned Town map,
fixed an issue where players were getting stuck inside of objects on the Military base map and Frosty Hallows,
Fixed an issue where trails of PFX were ending before they should,
Refined the way that people are added to squads and custom lobbies, fixing some of the display issues that you’ve been seeing while on the main menu,
Known Issues

The minimap in custom Lobbies are currently not working correctly or showing the correct minimap. This issue is top of priority and will be resolved asap!

Now, let’s take a look at the changes in more detail:
Domination Rework:
We’ve added to the existing Domination gamemode to give more nuance and complexity to high skilled players! Now we’re allowing players to get more points from kills, become high value targets by going on kill streaks, gain points from defences, and get the point value from neutralising a point. We’re keeping the surge and capture structure and scoring the same, as we’ve been getting a lot of good feedback on Domination in general.

Destroying a Defence Wall – 5 VP
Destroying a Small Mortar – 10 VP
Destroying a Large Mortar – 20 VP
A Single Kill – 10 VP
Ending a Killstreak (killing someone who has gotten 5+ kills without dying) – 50 VP
Capturing a Point – 30 VP
Neutralising a Point – current surge value of the point
Surge Values – as per current build
We’ve got a load of further additions we’re looking at adding to Domination – from secondary conditional objectives around points to dynamic buffs spawning around the map when teams fulfill conditions! We’re starting with the tweaks to scoring first so we can get some feedback, then we’ll be looking to add these in the near future, so let us know what you think!
New Map – Goblin Mines:
“Though this is technically in the Demonic Plains, it’s worthy of its own map. The goblins have created an elaborate mine complete with minecart tracks to retrieve precious metals and resources from the ground. After trading away precious metals from within the mine, the goblins managed to acquire an extremely rare dragon egg, and hatched from it a ‘pet’ dragon to help smelt the metal.”

We're adding a new way for you all to give us feedback on the game and let us know if there are bugs happening in the game through the "Bug/Issue feature", or if you just want to give us a shout about a feature that you're anticipating in the future or feedback in the game then use the "Comment feature".

Initial Audio mixdown implemented, balancing sounds across the board and giving space for everything to breath in its own way!
Removal of Map Rotation – now play what you want, when you want.
Cloth physics polish pass, making those sweet sweet capes even more flowey
Further AI work has been done to smooth out bot behaviour.
Further optimisation of texture normal maps (optimisation)
Balance Changes:
Troopers
All Troopers have had their movement speed reduced by 15% - making your dodges, decisions, and tactical pushes really matter. Don’t go in if you don’t think you can get out…
Gamemode

Respawn base timer has been increased from 8 seconds to 10.
Pooled respawn window has been changed from 2 seconds to 5, making you spawn more on your own more often that you were.
Bug Fixes

Minor Inconvenience no longer goes through defences.
Laser Shot now hits close range scenery instead of passing through it, and hit bomb drone correctly. The laser will go through defence walls, that’s an intentional benefit of the active ability for Damage classes.
Reserves effect now terminates correctly on quick uses.
Splosion now no longer attaches and procs on neutral defences.
Disarming chords is now firing off correctly and no longer showing at 0,0,0 on the map.
Health is my Resource is now fixed, doing the correct % of healing in all circumstances.
Emergency Aid is now no longer appearing below the floor and will affect allies correctly and consistently as a result.
Damage and Tank end screen accolades should now be displaying the correct players.
Fixed a bug where Rain of Fire was stopping you from using the turret for a short duration.
Fixed an issue where Mastery Skin Tharlin would T-pose
Fixed an issue where projectiles could sometimes hit behind the Trooper when standing directly in front of terrain.
Fixed a bug where B would not consistently open the shops when standing inside the area.

Now, let’s take a look at the changes in more detail:
Welcome to the Portal Realm
When Sarge opened his eyes, he was no longer in the Military Base – instead he stood alone on a floating island of crumbling rock in front of a fantastical world he could never had imagined. Hues of bright blue and purple stung his eyes as he took it in: a vast space where collapsing ruins were suspended in the air, a tower lit up like a shining beacon in the centre, and large shards that each seemed to reflect Sarge’s own memories as he gazed into them. An eerie silence lay over the place like a smothering blanket, interrupted only by brief flashes of noise from the shards as they played out the sound of his memories. Underneath all of this was a colossal portal, much like the one that had transported him here.
You may notice there’s a whole new background to the game while navigating our menus and getting in and out from a match – that’s because we’re now bringing the first bits of lore into the game! We’d like to welcome you to the Portal Realm, a weird and wonderous place that the Troopers have found themselves in filled with strange shards and portals. We don’t want to give away too much at this moment but we can tell you the Portal Realm will be pivotal to the story, and they’ll be more lore content coming to the game soon – including lore-based challenges with exclusive skins to unlock!
Surge Defence Systems
Today we're introducing the Surge Defence Systems. These defences take the form of large and small mortars that periodically fire AoE rounds around the captured point, and energy walls that block movement and shots of the opposing team. The defences appear when a point is captured and increase in number with the surge value of the point - this caps off when the point hits a 50 surge.
While the defences can be healed they don’t regen health by themselves. Be careful to keep them up though as once they’re destroyed, they’re gone until the point is neutralised and captured again.
AI Rework
We’ve reworked the logic that the AI follows to make them a bit smarter when considering what points to go to or if they should stay at their current objective. Now, depending on the state of the map, the AI of each team will either be in attack or defence mode – making them more aggressive or defensive respectively. They will now also take you as a player into consideration, making them cover for you if you leave a point, or follow you to attack an objective. They should now feel like they're making sense in the second to second chaos of the match.
This change is all about both giving players a challenge and giving them a team of bots that they can rely on to make smart decisions. They will also now avoid Rain of Fire and other Area of Effect abilities on the ground, so apologies Scorch mains, but no more padding the damage stats by bots standing in your flames…
New Domination Map
The most secure training facility this side of the moon, this well-equipped base was the central hub of the Military Faction and their dangerous experiments. The spacious grounds are empty for once, so challenge yourself to the obstacle course, hunker down behind sandbags on the airstrip, or stake your claim over the tank depot.

Map Rotation:
Quality of Life Changes

Main Menu sound implementation – now there are various layers of foley sounds as you click through the menu tabs and through different layers inside of tabs.
Visual updates to various models inside of multiple maps.
Tweaks to server lobby, which should improve latency issues depending on ISP speed and bandwidth.
You can now buy multiple Boosters from the Store
Adjusted the Keep location on the Castle Grounds map to stop the camera interfering with combat – now you won’t get blocked by the camera and cut out materials when fighting.
Enemy Troopers will now flash white when you deal damage to them, while your Trooper will flash red when they receive damage.
An optimisation pass has started and is well under way to reduce sizes of textures and normals.
Restoration Rune, Bomb Drone, and Deploy Turret have had their collisions removed more quickly after they die.
The Abandoned Town map has had some visual tweaks, and Frosty Hallows now has an updated ice texture on the frozen lake.

Fixed an issue where Troopers could be knocked through invisible walls around various maps.
Fixed an issue where Fang’s Menacing Bark ability would not silence Bots correctly.

Fixed an issue where in-base stores would not show up in match.
Fixed an issue where Scorch’s Rain of Fire would make his other abilities unavailable to cast until the projectile hit the floor.
Fixed an issue with the Mastery EXP calculation, so now achieving mastery levels is much more achievable.

This is the new map The Military Base with the Surge Defence System maxed out around B point! As a team increases a point's Surge Value, up to the a max of 50, they fortify defences around it. The defences always appear at 30/40/50 surge values, but depending on the map and point a different combination of Energy Walls and Light and Heavy Mortars appear. They only block or damage attacking team, and while the defences can be healed they don’t regen health. Be careful to keep them up though as once they’re destroyed, they’re gone until the point is neutralised and brought back to the corresponding Surge value.
Next week will also come with an AI overhaul for Domination, along with a revamp of the main menu to fit into Portal World – the setting of Volume 1 of Super Squad’s story.
Finally, here's some hints to some of the balance changes that we'll be announcing next week in the patch notes:

Eve's Divine Intervention is going to be getting some nerfs.
Skully's Reserves is getting some nerfes and sideways balance changes.
Flintlock's getting some number tweaks across the board.
Sarge is getting some nerfes and buffs.
Tanks are getting a minor health reduction across the board.
Xandark's poison bomb is getting a range nerf.
Passives and Actives are getting some tweaks across the board.

Trooper Mastery – play as your favourite Troopers and earn Mastery EXP to unlock exclusive avatars, podiums, and skins!
UI Revamps – we’ve updated the visual style of the in-game UI to improve clarity.
Avatars and Emotes – we’re bringing in Avatars to customize your profiles, and Emotes to use in game!
The Locker - Inside your Collection – browse your collection of skins, podiums, avatars, and emotes, and select default skins and podiums for each of your Troopers.
Tutorial – play through the tutorial to learn the basics of the game or refresh yourself!
Boosters – we’ve added boosters to help you earn Battlepass EXP, Mastery levels, and Trooper Tokens faster, as well as try out new skins.
Music Overhaul – there’s some new music in different sections of the main menu, as well as at the start and end of each match!
Temporary Removal of the Strike Gamemode - we’re focusing on Domination for the time being, and will be bringing back Strike and more gamemodes in the future

Now, let’s take a look at the changes in more detail:
Trooper Mastery
Trooper Mastery gives everyone the ability to earn EXP per Trooper through simply playing as them. The better you play, the more EXP you gain. At level 1 you’ll gain an Avatar, then at 5, 10, and 15 you’ll get an Emote, Podium, and Costume respectively. These items are used to reward long play time with a Trooper and, hopefully, true mastery of the Trooper.
UI Revamps
We’ve revamped the in-game UI – including the HUD, Scoreboard, and in-match store – to bring everything in line with the updated visual style. The aim has been to make everything more concise and easier to read while in the heat of battle.
In-match HUD
The in-game HUD has been re-styled and formatted to bring more clarity to the second-to-second gameplay. It’s all about clarity with these UI changes, bringing in your respawn timer, showing where your passives and actives slot in, and centralising everything you need to monitor at the bottom of the screen.
In-match Scoreboard
The new scoreboard is all about information! Now while playing the game, you will be seeing live stats (Damage, Healing, Damage Taken, etc.) of players – making it easier to see who’s the biggest threat on the battlefield. This is also somewhere where your Avatar will be shown off to everyone else in the game!
In-match Store
The in-match store has been redesigned to consolidate the information onto one quick and easy to read page. UX improvements have also been implemented to facilitate those speedy mid-fight purchases.
Avatars and Emotes
We’re bringing out a couple of new items for players to use in game – Avatars and Emotes!
Avatars
The Avatars are used to personalise your profile, allowing you to represent your favourite Faction, Trooper, or general vibe to other players. By Default you will have the Super Squad Avatar equipped, but more can be earned in Trooper Mastery or bought in the store.
Emotes
Emotes, which are by default bound to the T key, are used as an in-match kind of “firework” that explodes above your Trooper’s head. These range from Trooper faces to meme territory emotes to flex on your enemies. By default, you’ll have the Thumbs Up and Thumbs Down emotes, but more can be earned in Trooper Mastery or bought in the store.
We’ll be adding plenty more Avatars and Emotes for you to choose from in the future!
Boosters
The Boosters come in two forms – Squad and Solo – and have been designed to accelerate your progress through all of our different EXP systems or give you awesome temporary unlocks. Squad Boosters last for 1 match, but give a high EXP boost. Solo Boosters run for a set amount of time, but gain a smaller boost over that time. The Battlepass, Mastery, and Trooper Token Boosters have the Solo and Squad variants, whereas the Skin Booster only has the squad variant, allowing your whole squad to use any skin and podium for that match!
The Locker
The Locker, inside of your Collection tab, is where you’re able to view and equip all of your Skins, Podiums, Avatars, and Emotes! You can think of this as the heart of your collection as it shows all of your earned and bought loot from the game. You’ll be able to set a Skin and Podium as a default for each Trooper, as well as the Avatar for your profile, and the Emote that you will use in-match.
Tutorial
We’ve got a Tutorial – play through it to quickly learn the controls of the game and see the first hints of lore! It’s comprised of 7 rapid-fire stages which will take about 5 minutes from start to finish. At the end of each stage you will be given a grade and be able to repeat the stage if you want.
If you’re new to the game, the Tutorial will be the first thing you see when you load into the game; if you’re not a newbie but want a refresher, you can find the Tutorial at the bottom of the Learn Tab.
Music Overhaul
We’ve revamped the music throughout the game! Now the main menu has a selection of new music throughout its environments with more to come in the future. There’s also new music throughout the match – it’s kind of hard to describe music though, so get in game and listen for yourself!
Temporary Removal of Strike
Throughout Early Access we’ve been hearing the pros and cons of Strike and Domination from you all. Strike will be coming out of the game for the time being in order to focus players and feedback into the Domination mode. But don’t fret - Strike and even more gamemodes will be coming back in the future, so hold tight for the moment!
Map Rotation
We're introducing a form of rotation this patch - Map Rotation. Each week 4 maps will be selected to go on rotation. This is going to help us refine our maps by getting some more detailed data on which maps are popular compared to others and hopefully why!
House Keeping
Players will have their custom key-bindings reset in this patch, so make sure to set them before going through to a match.

Bug Fixes

Fixed a bug which still sometimes caused “waiting for 0 players” to pop up while going through to a match.
Fixed a bug where sometimes players in squad select were given a wider aspect ratio than intended.
Fixed an issue where players keys were reset randomly in the options menu while changing settings.
Fixed an issue where Trigger could sometimes disappear through the floor when using Fetch or Menacing Bark.
Fixed a bug where Skull Crusher could get stuck in some sections of the some of the maps when using Anchor's Away.
Fixed a bug where Florp's booster shot would not end correctly if Florp died when the ability was active.
Fixed a bug where Damage buffs from abilities could stack and break, causing the buff to not end correctly.
Fixed a bug where projectiles could go through walls at close range.
Known Issues

If you finish or get past the movement section of the tutorial, go back to the main menu, and then play through the tutorial again it won't load correctly and will think you're on the camera movement section. If you exit out and reload the tutorial it will work fine.
During the movement section of the tutorial you won't be moved to the center of the pads correctly. You will after the shooting objective of the tutorial.
Sometimes players can be stuck on the loading screen between squad select and playing on the map.
By pressing the ` key (next to 1 on qwerty keyboards) you will enter an Ai testing mode. This has no in game benefits for players, but we’re running dev builds so we can debug the game. If you do this your camera can get disconnected from your character. If you do this in base you can get stuck in base.
Some players are experiencing random crashes. Some of these have been fixed, but there may be more. If you experience this then join the discord and send over your log files to BadFox_Eddie. You can ask him how to get your log files and he'll help!
Borderless/Windowed/Fullscreen don't seem to be setting properly, working on a fix.
We've had one instance of Trooper's spawning with the incorrect UI, we're keeping an eye out for this, but haven't had any additional instances of the bug.
Sometimes Scorch's turret seems to be firing 2 projectiles - any more information on this would be much appreciated.
Sometimes when adding players to a party their names are not be visible. They are in your party and is just a visibility bug.

Now, let’s take a look at the changes in more detail:
AI Improvements
Based on feedback from the last patch, we’re tweaked the AI and are trying some new things to improve their behaviour in Domination.
For one, the bots will now defend zones better and try harder to hold onto surges - rather than abandoning a freshly capped zone, they will prioritise locking down the area and racking up their surge values.
We've added in an additional tier of behaviour priority, so the bots now use Low, Medium, and High priority behaviours during the match. This will facilitate an extra level of diversity as to how bot matches play out.
There may still be issues with AI behaviour, so if you see an issues please let us know!
Visual Updates: Models
Some of our models were in need of a little TLC, so we gave it to them! Whether increasing the poly count, adding to the model itself, or giving the texture more flair, we’ve visited maps across the Factions to make sure they’re feeling fresh.
Visual Update: Troopers
We’re now making use of Subsurface Scattering on our Troopers, so their skin looks more alive – and they’re positively glowing with pride!
Trooper Rotation
Quality of Life Changes
Throwables – we’ve tweaked the timing on throwables to make them feel snappier but still allow the potential for players to dodge out of the way; overall the throw time has been reduced but longer ranged throws will take longer to land than shorter ranged throws.
Capture Time – we’ve lowered the capture time in Domination to make gameplay feel quicker and points more viable to cap for a single Trooper; the new times are listed below:
1 Trooper: 25 Seconds
2 Troopers: 20 Seconds
3 or more Troopers: 15 Seconds
Using Scoreboard – now when tabbing to the in-game Scoreboard, you can continue to control your Trooper behind the UI
Bug Fixes

Fixed a bug where ‘charge’ abilities and knock backs such as Anchor’s Away and Knock Back Shot caused Troopers to fall below the map – Troopers will now jump slightly into the air when charging or being knocked back
Fixed a bug where Divine Intervention would cause Eve to fly down to the middle of the map if the target disappeared whilst she was in the air
Fixed a bug where Eve could get stuck inside Relays after casting Divine Intervention on them
Fixed a bug where Backline Carry damage buff could stay applied for the duration of a match
Fixed a bug where some objects that could be shot over blocked shots at close range
Fixed a bug where Passive abilities could still proc after being sold
Fixed a bug where Troopers could enter and cast abilities into enemy spawn zones
Fixed a bug where Booster Shot was still working after Florp had been killed
The in-game store UI will now display over the top of all other UI
Fixed a bug where some info in the Learn Tab was displaying the wrong values

Hey all, we’re bringing in a massive patch this time! We’ve got 3 main features coming out today, with a whole bunch more smaller changes as well!

We’ve completely overhauled the menus, adding a bunch more information and bringing more of the Super Squad character into the menus. The in-game UI will be getting the same love soon, so watch our discord for more information!
We’ve tightened up how the cursor, and aiming of throwable abilities works with the aim of making it more intuitive and easier to land those devastating combos.
The AI in both Strike and Domination has been completely updated, so now it has smoother movement and decision making skills when trying to dominate the battlefield.
We’ll dive into more detail down below, but we are excited to get everyone involved with the latest changes!

Important Notes:

You may have to reset your controls when you go into game for the first time, so make sure to check if you had custom controls on!
With the new lock-in feature detailed below, make sure to lock in your Troopers, otherwise someone else could lock-in before you!
If you have Epic games Launcher installed on your PC, make sure it's up to date as it can cause the game to crash out.
We’ve had some issues concerning Antivirus causing a fatal error and crashing out the game – if you experience this please add the game folder to your Antivirus exceptions!

Aiming Revamp:
The aiming revamp comes in two forms: tightening up of the cursor location and polish of how abilities choose a valid location to throw to.
The Cursor location now is at floor level, meaning that your abilities will always go where you aim them, as well as your bullets. This means that abilities like Backstab and Anchor’s Away will now go exactly where you want them every time!
The throwable preview arc now works differently. Up until this point it was very unforgiving, so if your cursor was slightly on a piece of scenery you would get a red X. This meant that you didn’t waste abilities, but kind of lead to spamming the ability button to try and get the right placement. As you can see in the image above, the cursor is off where the ability is actually going to throw. The throwable arc will now preview to the nearest valid location (within reason), so fighting in tight spaces won’t leave you spamming your abilities. If you’re trying to throw over an obstacle however, you can still get the red X as the place you’re aiming at is too far away from the nearest valid location.
Basically, throwing abilities are a lot nicer and more forgiving to use, so let us know what you think!

Bot AI Rework:

The AI Bots in both Strike and Domination have been refined to give a smoother feel to gameplay. In both modes the bots will prioritise objectives over most other things, unless being attacked, meaning that you’ll have to fight to earn those wins. They’re a bit more tactical than before, so if you’re trying out the game for the first time watch what the bots do for how best to win the game. Their movement has also been smoothed out, so it’s easier to track and hit them once you know the gamemodes and can just focus on the fights!

Restructure of Matchmaking Sequence:

The flow of going into a match has been tweaked, allowing players to have more information about what gamemode they’ll be playing and what map it will be based on, before picking their Troopers. This has been a heavily requested feature for some time now, so we’re excited to get it in and get everyone playing!

Menu Revamp:
Throughout Beta and Early Access we’ve been adding more and more content to Super Squad, and we thought it was a good time to take a step back and really polish up all of our screens. Each screen has part of a 3D world behind it, a hint towards the more “interactive” Trooper Town that will be coming to Super Squad in the future. The Menus have been completely overhauled, with a focus on information and clarity, following the thread between each screen. We’ve also added video previews to the ability information pages in the learn tab and in squad select.
Squad Select has undergone the same treatment, and has a new lock in feature so you can go into game early when everyone has locked in.

The custom lobbies issue has been fixed where players were struggling to go through to a match.
Close range projectile bug fixed, should no longer randomly collide with objects when it should not at close range.
Keys should no longer stay on the minimap once they’ve been picked up
Potential fix for Troopers losing their overhead UI
Potential fix for the escape key not working when in various menus
Throwable ability models should no longer get stuck in the air
We’ve told the bots off and they should no longer pick Troopers in squad select

Custom Lobbies
Custom Lobbies are hitting the game in their first form today! Players will be able to click the "5 Player" button showing in the above image to open up the custom lobbies. This will bring up the 2 x 5 player Squad menu so that 2 teams of 5 can be brought together, bypass matchmaking, and go straight into match.
If a full team of 10 is not put through then Bots will fill the remainder of the slots, so don't worry if you don't have 9 other people, you'll still be able to get into game!
The future of custom lobbies is spectator cams so that we can run tournaments and have the ability to watch the chaos of a fight from above. We'll be working on this in the future, so hang tight and when it's in we'll start running some broadcasted tournaments!

New Map - Valley of the Sun
Get ready to Strike in the heart of the Fantasy Faction! The Valley of Sun was home to many peaceful folks from across the realm, including the Human King, Tirnas. Take a stroll within the castle grounds, tread carefully across the swamp, and strike your enemies with powerful magic!

Strike Rework:
Strike has been a bit unbalanced for a while now, with the key phase basically deciding the game, and the missile phase not having as impact as we would have liked. The gamemode didn't have enough leavers to be able to balance it correctly, so we've tweaked and changed a couple of features to make it more fun and balanced! Our changes coming in today have addressed these issues in our internal playtests, so we're looking forward to any and all feedback you all have!
Striking a Balance
From talking to the community, the key phase was generally considered to be fun and had enough depth with team roles and routes through the map. As such the key phase is staying the same.
The Launch phase is being reworked in a number of ways to make it faster paced, easier to flip, and more exciting all round! Here's the main changes:

The Missiles will now activate in A, B, C order.
The launch sequence has been shortened from 120 seconds to 90 seconds,
The launch sequence will now always happen, so no more anti-climactic defuses or endless games,
Relays health has been reduced and now when reducing a relay's HP to 0 it will deactivate and switch teams after a short delay,
At the end of the 90 seconds the team controlling the majority of the relays win the phase. If it's a tie (2 relays owned by each team) then the team that won the key phase wins the launch sequence.
A lot of further visual reinforcements have been implemented to help players understand what's going on in the launch phase especially.

The center missile UI element will now colour to the team which will win the launch phase,
The launch sites now have a region around them which will also colour to the team which will win the launch phase,
Relays will now change colour, as well as their connectors to the central launch site, depending on which team owns it at that time.

Bug Fixes

Hold the Line now no longer infinitely stacks if the support dies and the effect is active on an ally.
Bomb Drone will no longer target ally deployable if the deployable is thrown after bomb drone has been actiavted.
Fixed an issue where the map icons for Strike maps were not displaying correctly during map select.

Known Issues

Sometimes players can be stuck on the loading screen between squad select and playing on the map.
Keys at Launch and Rockets diffused are not tallying correctly at the end of the Strike Match score screen.
By pressing the ` key (next to 1 on qwerty keyboards) you will enter an Ai testing mode. This has no in game benefits for players, but we’re running dev builds so we can debug the game. If you do this your camera can get disconnected from your character. If you do this in base you can get stuck in base.
Some players are experiencing random crashes. Some of these have been fixed, but there may be more. If you experience this then join the discord and send over your log files to BadFox_Eddie. You can ask him how to get your log files and he'll help!
Your keys may be set randomly in the options menu while changing settings.
Sometimes the escape key won't work when in various menus, right click on the game to re-focus the window, and ESC should work.
Sometimes key UI icons in Strike stay on the minimap after being collected
Sometimes in squad select some players are given a wider aspect ratio than intended.
Sometimes when a Trooper respawns they can lose their overhead UI, we're tracking this down.
Borderless/Windowed/Fullscreen don't seem to be setting properly, working on a fix.
We've had one instance of Trooper's spawning with the incorrect UI, we're keeping an eye out for this, but haven't had any additional instances of the bug.
Sometimes dodging can consume almost 2 charges if you dodge as your second dodge comes off cooldown – looking into this.
Some throwable ability models are getting stuck in the air – it’s just visual as the ability still works perfectly.
Sometimes troopers can already be picked when you load into a game, looks like the bots are starting to think for themselves...
Sometimes Scorch's turret seems to be firing 2 projectiles - any more information on this would be much appreciated.

To view this go to Steam > Library > Right Click Super Squad > Properties > Updates
It's at the bottom of the small pop-up window and is a way for you to ensure that you're game is fully updated and able to play.
