Greetings Lightbringers, and welcome to a new entry of our weekly dev blog -- this time in video form! Last week we discussed the near future of the game, with the mechanics we are working on that will be implemented in the near future. This time, we want to focus on one of the key features that are quite unique to Empire of Ember: the city designer.
As you can see, with this powerful feature you can design and decorate your settlement completely! You can build structures and customize them to your taste: farms, markets, taverns, libraries... everything you need to develop your city and make it a prosperous and safe place for your subjects to live. The editor allows you to move, rotate, resize, and a few more shortcuts to help you choose the best spot and size for your brand-new building.
Even if Build mode is focused on exteriors, because normally you can’t walk inside buildings, there are thousands of objects to use for house decoration as well! So once your construction is ready, you can move the camera inside and add your own touch to those rooms by choosing their furniture and ornaments to the last details, thanks to the extensive library of over 2,500 assets.
As you can see, you have complete freedom to build your city, but also to raze it to the ground, as every built item in the game is 100% destructible. This is especially useful when attacking enemy cities, because destroyed buildings and objects will sometimes drop useful resources you can collect for your own town.
Talking about destroying cities -- turns out you can see other players’ settlements as well. You will need to visit them to complete missions. If you have a bad reputation, you will be given the option to attack. And you’ll be attacked as well -- at which point the placement of your walls and spawn points will affect your tactics, so plan them carefully! If you come in peace, though, you can take your time, walk around, and get some inspiration on urban planning and decoration.
This is all for now! As usual, we would like to invite you to join our community on on Discord, our Steam forum, and to follow us on Twitter, Facebook and Reddit. Also, if you want to help us, please wishlist and follow the game, and let your friends know about it! We will be coming next week with more news on the game’s development. Until then, be happy, stay safe, and have a great week!
