Greetings, great leaders.
You have undoubtedly noticed the lack of updates and announcements surrounding Radio Violence. There is a simple reason for that: our studio, No Sleep Software, is no longer in operation.
It has been over seven years since Radio Violence released on Steam, and a lot has changed since then. The team has moved on to new careers and new phases of our lives, and our plans for both No Sleep and Radio Violence were necessarily set aside.
When we made the game, we were newcomers to the industry: fresh out of college, full of ideas, and short on experience. Radio Violence was our first released game, and like many first projects, it taught us far more than we expected. Eventually however, we had to accept that both the game and the studio were stepping stones toward whatever came next. We closed down No Sleep, took the experience and friendships we gained with us, and moved on.
At this point, there is little reason to keep charging for the game. We do not advertise it, aside from the occasional bit of word of mouth, and our team now has careers, homes, and families that leave little time to revisit the ambitious plans we once had for it. Even if we did, I am not sure we would understand half of our hastily-scribbled, late-night development notes anymore.
Still, we do not want Radio Violence to simply disappear.
It was the first released title for all of us, and for many of us, an early glimpse of the industry we would go on to work in. We took it to shows, talked about it with other developers, put it on our résumés, and showed it to our friends, family, and future colleagues, alongside many complete strangers. We also spent innumerable late nights playing it ourselves, building countless towers across chaotic hex grids over food and drinks.
We are still very proud of what we made and grateful for what it gave us.
That is why Radio Violence will be going free to play.
To help preserve the game and keep it available to anyone who might stumble across our strange little project years from now, I have decided to take stewardship of the title as one of its former developers. I will do what I can to keep it functional and available for future players.
If you already purchased Radio Violence, nothing changes. It will remain in your library and continue to work as before. There are no plans to change the game itself beyond any patches that may be necessary to keep it running. If you have not yet purchased it, good news! Soon it will cost you nothing to own. It is just as enjoyable a couch multiplayer experience as it was when we created it years ago, and Steam Remote Play Together allows Radio Violence to be enjoyed over the internet, in lieu of the never-finished multiplayer update. We would appreciate it if you gave it a try.
The studio may be gone, and the team may have dispersed, but we would like to keep the signal alive. We hope that you will keep tuning in.
Until next transmission,
Dani Yeomans
