Hello everyone,
We've read your comments and your frustration regarding the long silence. You're right. Active development on "Of Ships & Scoundrels" stalled a long time ago, as we were never able to secure the funding needed to finish the game. Making this official only now was a mistake. We are sorry for that.
We are now facing a simple choice: shut down the multiplayer servers immediately, or find a way to keep them running for the existing community for as long as possible.
We have chosen the latter. That's why we will be running a final "End of Life Sale" and reducing the price to a minimum. This sale will be the last opportunity to purchase the game before we permanently remove it from the Steam Store on October 6th, 2025.
To be perfectly clear: We are not making any profit from this sale. Every single dollar will go exclusively towards covering the ongoing costs of the server infrastructure. The alternative to this is not a free game, but an immediate server shutdown.
Here is our plan:
Server Uptime: We aim to keep the multiplayer servers online until Summer 2026.
Covering Costs: The minimal price is intended to help us cover these server costs.
Disclaimer: If the costs exceed what we bring in, we may have to shut down the servers earlier. We are committed to keeping them online for as long as it is financially viable.
We understand your disappointment in an unfinished game. This approach is the least we can do to provide a home for the remaining players for a while longer, instead of just pulling the plug.
Thank you for your understanding.
The team of KORION Interactive
