For various reasons, but particularly now because of the unavoidable and increasing costs of running a company (no matter how small), I've decided to close down all trading activity and that means no longer being able to offer Formula XD for sale.
Why not just offer the game for free?
It had crossed my mind; but Formula XD was a project of learning on the go, I think I bit off more than I could chew, and unusual circumstances meant that I was under pressure to release the game before there'd been sufficient testing. All this meant that I then had a lot of difficulty in staying on top of bug reports and trying to fix things without breaking other things.
I have fixed by now all the bugs which I've ever heard of in the game, but the prospect of inviting everyone to have a copy of the game for free and the subsequent mountain of queries to answer and bug reports to investigate would be overwhelming. This is also the reason why I have not hitherto put the game at a discount. I had been of half a mind to delist the game for quite some time already, but additional overhead costs mean that push has now come to shove.
What if I have a copy before it's delisted?
Anyone who has a copy of Formula XD before it's delisted will still be able to play the game as normal, and Steamworks features such as the leaderboard and achievements will go on working as before.
When will Formula XD be delisted?
At present, I am not altogether sure. I am asking for it to be delisted on the 20th of November, but it might not be possible for it to be done quite as soon as that.
End-of-life discount?
There will be a discount so that anyone who has the game on their Wishlist will be prompted to have a look, so that they might see the announcement here and won't be feeling like they missed out when the game is withdrawn from sale.
Future bug fixes?
I'm honestly not sure, and it may depend on the severity of the bug(s). All the ones I know about have been fixed. I have much else to do, but just in case, I won't be binning the Formula XD project files; or at least, not for some time.
Any last words?
Well, thanks to everyone who played my game and gave it a chance. I had never done anything like this before, and the experience taught me a lot. If I ever make a game again, I'll have much more of an idea of what to do and what not to do. That's all, really.
