Robot Rumble 2 - Dev Diary: kupa_!

Roboteers, stand by!

Hi all, kupa_ here, one of the developers of Robot Rumble 2, here with another Dev Diary update. This month we have been mostly working on improvements to our Arena Mod Tool, adding new features gameplay features to our arenas and, of course, continuing our bug crushing mission.

One of the things I would like to take the time to talk about today is our fantastic community. As I have mentioned many times before we wouldn't be anything without the love and support of the wonderful community we have built up over the years and I just wanted to shout out some of the amazing events they have curated. Every month on the Official RR2 Discord we have a community run Bot of the Month competition where all builders are invited to enter their works of mechanical art to be featured on our Discord. Above is a picture of three beautiful bots that won both their respective months and then the year end Bot of the Year community vote. Beautiful work by Peanits with King Krustacean and 4NDR3W T4T3 taking the 2nd and 3rd podium with The Velocitizer and Outlaw!

Beetleweight replicas of our stock bots HONK (Hoot) and Launch Control (Fling Guidance) go head to head with beautifully fiery results. Bots built by @blooper_bee on the RR2 Discord.

On the development side, as mentioned before, we have been working hard on version 1.2 of our Arena Mod Tool (AMT). The AMT is the tool we use to create the arenas featured in the game, and is also freely available for anyone to create their own arenas with. Some of the new features include the ability to have dynamic text in arenas, as well as all new, highly requested, hazards such as Forced Countout Zones. We have also been adding requested improvements to the existing hazards such as being able to delay their firing, or even being able to randomise the effect of a trigger, allowing for much more chaotic results! We are hoping these additions allow our talented arena creators to create even more wild custom arenas down the line.

Sparks and debris are sent flying across the arena as Gridlock and Zero Dark Hundred clash! Bots built by @iforgottobubble on the RR2 Discord.

Alongside the above, work continues on implementing Steam Workshop Support and we cannot wait to share more news on this as we progress. That is all for this month, so once again thank you to everyone who has supported the game and we hope to see you again for next months dev diary!
