Doing something new, a more fledged out video with some behind the scenes looks, to show you what's in store between now and leaving Early Acess. You can watch the video below, or read this blog post, both contain the same information.
Hi there, I’m telekrex, the developer of Skyfear, and I’d like to share with you the latest updates on the game’s progress. I’m aiming to have Skyfear transition out of early access into a “1.0” complete game in 2027. There isn’t a set in stone release date, but I’m optimistic about the first half of the year. Between now and then, there will be 3 or 4 major updates building up to that. And somewhere in there will also be the release of a Free Demo, so that Skyfear can be tried for free by anyone, before committing to buy the game.
The Roadmap
There’s an official breakdown of all the planned content at playskyfear.com/docs/roadmap. This document also includes the progress on each particular thing.
But to highlight a few things I’m working on:
Magic behavior is expanding to do more than just a flamethrower. Each magic type is going to behave a bit more unique, like fire sticking to the ground and spreading, and frost forming into solid projectiles mid-air.
There are several new perks, abilities, and magic types in development, but I want to keep those a surprise until later.
Lairworld is going to get some visual improvements to be less bland. My original intentions were a desolate prehistoric landscape, which I think I nailed, but I agree that it could use some color.
Dragon model will get some improvements to shape and animation is being fully re-done. Part of this is going to include new cosmetic options to further customization.
Challenges, Double XP events, improvements to bots, and more.
So what happens after Skyfear launches as a complete game?
A few things. Certainly I will want to finish more maps and content, and release some bonus material.
I started Protoria Studios because I wanted a home for my games, which will not stop at Skyfear. There’s more games I’m working on that you’ll probably start seeing more of next year. However, Skyfear remains the largest project overall, and I kindof see it as Protoria’s “Counter-Strike”. I’ve very intentionally built it to be playable a long time from now, and I think there will always be room for more updates. Whether that’s in-game content, community events, bringing the game to more platforms, or maybe even mod support, we’ll see. Skyfear being a 10-year old game that people still play is kindof the point.
