Tiger I
Probably the most famous tank of WW2. Production began in August 1942 and ceased in August 1944 with the introduction of Tiger II. A large heavy tank that was fast for its size. It was equipped with 88mm gun, which could penetrate the armor of most Allied and Soviet tanks from long range. Those tanks would have to come much closer to penetrate Tiger’s armor and preferably to shot on its side or back. The first platoon of Tigers entered action in September 1942 in Leningrad.
Both Tiger models were complex and took a lot of time to produce. Production of Tiger I tank required twice the time of any other German model.
Sherman Firefly
This tank was based on the US M4 Sherman but fitted with the powerful 3-inch (76.2 mm) caliber British 17-pounder anti-tank gun as its main weapon. Production began in early 1944, just in time to equip British forces for the Normandy landings. Its gun could almost always penetrate the armor of Panther and Tiger tanks, so Sherman Firefly became highly valued and a priority targets for German tank crews.
