Hello interns!
Today we've got a variety of additions, including some pretty big ones for the Level Editor. Just as a reminder, you can find custom Rhythm Doctor levels to play over on our Steam Workshop! The Workshop isn't the only way to share levels you make, you can also share them as files directly with whoever you'd like.
I also want to take a second to remind everyone that we've added a couple of crossover-collab levels to the game over the years! Head to the Basement from the main ward of Middlesea Hospital and you'll find levels from UNBEATABLE, Bits & Bops, and more. Enjoy!
v1.2.0 Patch Notes
Major Additions:
Added new text decoration type that supports depth, movement, coloring, outline width, and more
Added custom font support for Floating Text
Added a new "Go to Level" event that lets you switch .rdlevel files mid-level with lots of customization
New Game Features:
Added filters for custom level searching: rank:[letter], diff:[difficulty], 2p:[true/false], played:[true/false]
Multiple can be combined while searching, for example: "rank:s,a,b diff:tough 2p:true" (Proper UI for this will be added in the future!)
Redesigned the 1P/2P switcher before starting a level
Made the endings of 3-X and the final level skippable from the pause menu, after beating the level once
You can now hold shift on the calibration screen for finer visual offset adjustment
New Level Editor Features:
Added a "center position" property for some VFX presets: Heat Distortion, (now defaults to center of screen), Eyes (changes stare target), and Screen Tile
Added ability to create a "bomb beat" by clicking the heart in Add Free Time Beat (counts as a miss when pressed)
Added a new beat type to Set Beat Modifiers that never curves regardless of swing (via middle click, or shift+click)
Added Wobble option to Set Oneshot Wave and made all fields nullable (i.e. leave unchanged)
Added a screenshake toggle to Hide Row
Added more expressions for Ian
Set Desktop Color event now has a button to reset to the "default" simulated color without it being hardcoded, in case it changes in the future (no immediate plans)
Level Editor Quality-of-Life Changes:
Added "Open Recent" button to editor file menu that lists up to 8 recent .rdlevels
Added "Test Level" button to editor file menu
Added Ctrl+Shift+W editor shortcut which cycles resolution backwards
Play Song event now prompts you to convert your selected file to .ogg (just like our other game, A Dance of Fire and Ice, does.) You can skip it but will be forced to do it later when exporting
Separate 2P level is now properly checked and validated when exporting
Secondary .rdlevel files (Separate 2P level and anything for Go to Level) now use the 1P level's name for Discord presence if that file doesn't have metadata
Advanced editor changes:
Added advanced-only "Link Rows" event that allows rows to copy beats and/or expressions from another row
Added level mods (like noHitStrips) to Call Custom Method's autocomplete
Added ScaleInsomniacPagoda custom method
Fixed eyes position custom method not using the right coordinates
Bugfixes and Improvements:
Vector/Bold fonts now use a proper outline rather than just expanding outwards on 4 sides (retroactive and applies to all levels)
Fixed newly created rows and sprites having a slight black glow instead of being transparent (retroactive and applies to all levels)
Fixed beatsounds being too loud in 1-1 2P
Fixed incorrect hand showing midway through 4-2 2P
Fixed overlapping clap sounds being too loud
Fixed one screen windowdance locking to the monitor detected at game startup
Fixed rows that start hidden not having their gap filled at the start of the level
Fixed Change Character event not setting up freezeshot sprites for custom characters
Fixed incorrect row reflection positions for some characters
Fixed Play Song offset resetting on click
Fixed Play Sound volume/pitch/etc copying to the next event you click
Fixed Set Game Sound only allowing one audio offset across all sounds
Fixed black screen when switching themes from Insomniac Day -> Night or Skyline Pink -> Blue
Fixed a crash when toggling the Set VFX Preset color property
Fixed Paint Rows opacity also affecting glow
Fixed Fisheye VFX scrubbing issues
Fixed issues with row pivot positioning
Fixed issues with freezeshots and burnshots that carry across bars
Fixed missing CJK pixel fonts
That's it from us! We're still chipping away on some small Rhythm Doctor additions, but we have nothing to announce yet. We'll let you know when we do.
One more reminder, we released the Rhythm Doctor Soundtrack on Steam! Check it out!
Thanks for playing!
