Today's update brings a new game setting for those matches where everybody is waving the white flag except for one, a tidier game settings window, and a whole bunch of improvements for playing with game controllers, especially via Steam Remote Play and with Steam's own devices.
Feature updates
- Offering a draw only ends a match if everyone agrees. So far, a single player could keep hunting all the others waving the white flag for as long as they liked. Not very sporting, is it? The new game setting "Auto-accept draw" puts an end to this: once all remaining opponents of a player have offered a draw, that player automatically offers one as well after the configured number of own turns (3 by default), unless they destroy one of the opponents in the meantime. If you prefer the old, merciless way, just set it to "Never".
- Speaking of draws: a player who has offered a draw, voluntarily or automatically, no longer earns experience points for destroying an opponent (they already got none for surviving). The kill still counts in the statistics, and the money rewards remain.
- If a controller is not using the game's controls (for instance, because Steam applies a desktop or keyboard/mouse layout to it, as may happen via Steam Remote Play or Steam Link), the game now tells you so. To fix this, there is a new "Configure controller" button in the settings, which opens Steam's controller configuration right away.
Visual updates
- Last time, we promised glyphs for further controller types. Here is the first batch: the original Steam Controller and the Steam Deck (as well as other SteamOS handhelds) now get glyphs of their own. Trackpads, back buttons, and grips of other controllers (such as the new Steam Controller, the Legion Go, the PlayStation touchpad or the Xbox Elite paddles) get neutral glyphs. PlayStation and Nintendo glyphs will follow in a later update. Full disclosure: we don't own every conceivable type of controller ourselves, and the options for emulating them are also very limited, so please let us know if anything looks odd.
- The game settings window was getting crowded, so its settings are now grouped into the tabs "Rules", "World", and "Economy".
- The letter spacing is a bit looser now, so large text no longer overlaps, and small text no longer "bleeds" into adjacent characters.
Bug fixes
- With more than one controller connected (say, a Steam Controller and an Xbox controller), the input hints could show no glyphs at all. They now follow the controller you are actually using.
- Selecting an action cooldown in the game settings had no effect. Oops. It works now.
- Loading a savegame always reset the action cooldown to "No CD". It is now saved along with the other game settings.
- Fire and radiation left behind by an eliminated player stopped "ticking" and lingered forever. They now keep dealing damage and burn out after their regular number of turns.
Since host and clients need to run the same version of the game, please make sure that everyone in your multiplayer group updates. As always, if you find any bugs, please let us know. Have fun!
