After many weeks of work, unhealthy amounts of energy drinks and serious exposure to UE5
we can now announce the Experimental Version of UE5 update.
Experimental Version will be stripped from most of Warhorn’s game mechanics-everything is
work in progress and we are working on the re-implantation of core mechanics but the first
alpha test will be focused on network code and graphic optimization.
New engine, new challenges
Games in early access can be janky, poorly optimized or even not work at all. Well, even
some AAA games can crash at specific conditions…so we decided that giving a possibility to
test graphical settings and other aspects of experimental build to players would be a good
idea.
Yes, you don’t need to wait for the full beta release to check if the UE5 version will work on
your PC!
Multiplayer not from day one..but before day one
Experimental version even without a large chunk will have a multiplayer gamemode. In
future all quests, locations and other adventures will be avabile in fully supported
multiplayer-coop and PVP.
Network code will receive further improvments, so in the UE5 version you will be able to just
call your squad, open a can of soda and have a good Friday evening with The Warhorn.
Network test
With the release of the Experimental version we will start a new event-open multiplayer test
for everyone interested in supporting Warhorn’s development. We need your help to optimize
network code and provide lag-free experience in future updates.
FAQ
1.Will the new UE5 version replace the current Warhorn?
No, Experimental UE5 version will be a beta branch and updating to UE5 will require
manually changing to the beta branch via steam.
In the future after the release of the UE5 upgrade Unreal Engine 4 version (current one) of
the Warhorn will be available as a beta branch. We are not taking a game that you bought
from you and if you will prefer an old Warhorn-you will be able to return to the old version.
2.Who can participate in an open multiplayer test?
Open multiplayer test….well, everyone with a legally purchased copy of Warhorn and
working internet connection. We don’t require a ,,tester” rank in our discord server for this
test.
3.When UE5 will receive full implenentation of gameplay mechanics?
Experimental version should be considered a benchmark for the UE5 version and game
mechanics are currently revised, reimagined, fixed or reworked. Most basic (such as
inventory) ones will return soon.
The Warhorn in UE4 version had a problem with source code that had some elements
backing to first builds from…2018. Yes, some scripts were 4 years old and others…were
somewhat creepy.
Example-UE4 version has a strange script that reduces damage in PvP, nobody knows when
it was written and where it comes from and how it works. Another one is a short code without
connection to other parts of the game and The Warhorn brutally crashes without it..
As you understand, we really need to revisit some elements of the Warhorn source code and
remove weird (or possibly extraterrestrial in origin…) scripts. It will be much shorter than
starting from scrap but we need some time.
4.Upgrade to UE5 will be a paid DLC?
No, you paid for The Warhorn once and supported us with your wallet. We are not planning
to charge you for an update.
Also to get access to the experimental branch you will need to manually change to beta
version via steam-UE5 version will not appear as dlc.
5.Wait….UE5 version has a new map?
Yes, with the UE5 upgrade we are implementing a new map with new content. Most of the
game mechanics will also be revamped.
Old map was big but…had a lot of problems with implantation and optimization. Map from
the experimental build is planned as a small part of a much larger world that will run
smoother and will be larger than the old map.
