Contracts Forts introduce a new method and benefit of completing contracts in expedition. The Contract Fort feature is not yet fully implemented so hold tight for more content rolling out of the weekend.
Currently, a single Contract Fort can be found on the Archipelago on Harbor. From the fort you can accept contracts posted on multiple notice boards spread around the fort. Completing the contracts will given you the normal reward of resources and reputation at the fort they were completed for. Reputation has no function currently but within next week it will unlock special benefits and actions at the fort such as ship extraction, better contract rewards, cargo extraction, and more. Additional forts added in the future will have new looks, locations, and benefits for improving your reputation with them.
This update also brings some heavy gatling gun changes. The weapon has proven it is capable of winning a fight in a single successful application. Defeating a gatling gun ship requires avoiding their fire for the entire fight. Previously, this was balanced out by making the weapon highly situational with low range but the nature of expedition mode and other changes such as pursuit bonus and cannon damage falloff have allowed gatling ships to avoid their situational drawbacks. The changes aim to both make gatling guns useful in more situations with range and accuracy increases and to pull back their massive DPS (previous 3-4x greater than any other weapon) with damage and fire rate reductions.
