Battle scene
- Cavalry now has a higher nav priority, meaning they push other units out of their way when charging.
- Cavalry momentum 'mass' damage has been adjusted.
- Minimum momentum damage needed when charging has been increased.
- Archers friendly fire check re-evaluated when firing straight at the target.
- Archers will now check a radius for friendly troops around their target when in cautious stance. reducing (but not preventing) friendly fire.
- Units no-longer collide with ragdoll colliders. preventing units 'popping' up and down after killing an enemy.
- Units in defensive stance have reduced damage from cavalry charges - spear units are immune to charge when defensive.
- Start formation algorithm adjusted to prevent units from starting off the edge of the map in larger armies.
- Sorted formation algorithm adjusted.
- Line formation algorithm improved to create a square shape.
- AI formations now face the correct direction when preparing for Archer fire.
Happy fricken Friday folks!
Weeks go by far too quick these days, but I hope you can agree that the updates introduced this week have greatly improved gameplay, especially during battles. Tactics are becoming more apparent, and I hope to improve on these in the future.
Unit stances can now be toggled using the icons down the bottom left of the screen. A basic breakdown.
Aggressive:
- Default behaviour.
Melee/Mounted - Default unit behavior.
Ranged - No checks before firing, fire away!
Cautious:
- Best used by ranged units and melee units when the AI doesn't have many archers - default behavior for ranged units.
Melee/Mounted - When finding the next target, they will first look for targets near friendly units. This keeps them closer to friendlies in combat. This may change to putting them into formation if there are no enemy units within a radius - work in progress.
Ranged - Before firing, ranged units will check a small radius around the target for friendly units. They will not fire if the friendly/enemy ratio is higher than 1.5%. Allowing them to fire on groups of enemies surrounding outnumbered friendlies, but holding back when your units outnumber the target. Sometimes you just need to make sacrifices.
Defensive:
- Best used by melee units against cavalry.
Melee/Mounted - Units stand in place and swing at enemy units within a small radius. Units in defensive mode receive a reduced amount of damage from charging cavalry, and spear units receive none. The defensive mode is best used by melee units against incoming cavalry charges as your units stay close together, creating a meat grinder. Not recommended for mounted units currently.
Ranged: Ranged units will find the closest enemy to engage when finding a new target, but because of their short melee attack, renders them almost useless in a melee fight.
This is still a work in progress, and your input will help shape it to become even better.
Cheers!
- Kerry
