Welcome back!
In the first devlog, I shared sailing, rough weather and a glimpse of Anchor Light. This time I want to pull back a little: where might those voyages take you, and what is it like to live aboard the boat between landfalls?

The current world design chart. Locations, layouts and routes are still in development.
This is the Flat Sea, the wider world I'm building for Red Skies at Dawn. The Brine Coast sits near its heart, with Dawn Harbour as the planned home port. To the northeast lie the Ember Isles; around the edge, the ice of the Whiteward.
I want the chart to give you that feeling of picking out a distant place and wondering what it would take to reach it.
The island shapes are taking form in an early terrain layout. There is still a lot to build, including settlements, lighthouse progression and island puzzles, so this chart shows the direction of the world rather than a finished, fully explorable map.

A development capture from inside Wayfarer's cabin.
Closer to home, Wayfarer is becoming a boat you can move around. In the current development build, you can leave the wheel, walk the deck and head below while she keeps sailing.
The cabin follows the hull's motion. Through the portholes you can see the sea outside, with a lamp swinging overhead. Those small details matter to me: even below deck, you should still feel that you're aboard a moving boat.

I've also added a passage planner to the navigation slate. You can place up to five waypoints, check the bearing and distance for each leg, and edit the route as you go. Plans are kept with your saved voyage.
The boat continues sailing while you plan, so choosing when to look down at the chart is part of being at the helm.

The cabin's wall chart in the development build.
There is now a wall chart aboard Wayfarer too, which you can study more closely. It's a small link between the boat under your feet and the wider waters ahead.
There is more testing ahead on how readable these tools are during a voyage, especially when the weather demands your attention.
Which part of the chart would you sail towards first? Let me know in the comments.
If you'd like to follow development, wishlist Red Skies at Dawn and follow the game here on Steam.
Thanks for coming aboard,
Isaac — Junklab
