I am excited to announce the release of my first official indie Steam game. I have been in love with the process of game creation and coding for a long time now, but so far only have a slew of unfinished, half-baked video games in my wake.
So I decided to go for it, pay the $100, and publish a simple but achievable indie game on my own. I decided that I wanted every element (art, sound effects, music, fonts, and gameplay) to be hand crafted by me this first time around. I chose this art style and genre because I knew it would be a great place to start. And the older I get, the more I like casual arcade-style games to play while watching YouTube videos, so it feels like something that I would play if I came across it in the wild.
Because I really, really want to finally finish creating a video game for the first time in my life.
There is something defeating about starting and stopping game creation time and time again. A feeling of ineptitude and doubt has been building for a long time. And I want to face that, to prove that part of me wrong. I was diagnosed with ADHD as a child, and completing creative projects has always been a struggle. But I have been able to complete other things in other areas, so why not this one?
So I am going on this adventure. The first version to drop will more or less have all the elements included to call this, technically, a completed game of sorts. But then I am wanting to continue expanding this so it can become something meaty, something fun. Writing this brings wells of emotion, a slight but noticeable welling of tears in my eyes. This is a passion of mine, one that has gone unfed in any proper way for a long time.
I want to use this announcements page not only for giving details on future updates, but also as a sort of public journal, a way to emotionally process this experience for me. From the conversations I've had with other creatives, I know my struggle with finishing projects is one that many grapple with. If you relate to anything I share here, please leave a comment. I'd love to talk and share encouragement.
Version 1.0 is dropping on September 30th!
If you're interested, follow along on the journey and feel free to give critique and creative criticism, I'm always looking for new ideas and ways to make this game better, day by day.
