Hey everyone!
First off, thanks for checking out the game (and adding it to your wishlist ;) )
Not long until the game is released, in time for Halloween 2026, but we wanted to start posting the occasional update on how development is going. Today, I thought I'd show you the simple yet effective little system we have for making tiling textures that make up the walls, floors, and ceilings in the game. Hopefully you find it a bit interesting, and maybe even useful if you develop games yourself!
Here's a short video detailing it as well.
We wanted our walls and stuff to look kinda garish, like what you'd expect in an old manor, but also dirty, grotty, and run down. First, we got our textures from Sketch Up Texture Club, where we found vintage patterns for flooring and wallpapers.
Krita is the software we've used for our game art. To add some interest, we combined wood panelling with wallpaper, so it felt a bit more interesting and less plain.
Now, if you press Shift W, it'll instantly show you how it looks when tiled! This way we can check if it all looks good, before importing it to Unity.
Time to make it look disgusting. If we first select an area, we can ensure that any drawing we do will be constrained to that area. This way, we get different dirt overlaid on the wood and the wallpaper.
Pick a dirty looking brush. There are plenty of default ones, with smears, spatters, splashes, splodges, and so on. While the tiling view is active, any dirt you draw will be perfectly tiled as well, so feel free to draw across the texture boundaries!
And there you have it - one dirty tile, ready to be imported and used throughout an area in-game.

Thanks for reading! Please don't hesitate to let us know what you think, and we can't wait to get the game in your hands.
Cheers!
