A player reported an event where helping an old friend quietly earned a red file, with no hint of why. They were right, and it was not the only one. This update is about saying what things are — and about how lives end.
Last letters for lives that end alive
Every background's serial ends with a final letter. Most of those letters were written for a life that ended in death, so if you retired or went bankrupt, the writer who had followed you all your life simply went quiet. There are now 53 new final letters, for the first generation and for heirs, written for someone who has left politics and is still here to read them. Every route now has one.
Choices that say what they are
Sixty choices that put a line in your red file now show the act in the choice itself: paying for thirty names that will never show up, money that comes dressed as ads, a lawyer paid for through a third party. The consequences have not changed — you just know what you are choosing. The reported event is fixed too: the quiet payment to your comrade's group now says it goes in under someone else's name, and it buys you what the story says it buys.
Your background's questions, all three
Each background asks one question across a life — early, in the middle, and near the end. The middle question could be lost for good if you were not yet in office in the one week it checked, and the last one often never came. Both now wait for their moment.
Less of the same ending
The texts you read most — the three a.m. wake-up, the study group, the rumor mill, the faction calls, the street — no longer all end on the same kind of aphorism. Some stop sooner. Some end on a line someone says.
