Gunmetal Orbit was built on a Steam Deck, for the Steam Deck. It is where the game gets played and tested day to day, so here is exactly what to expect, in our own words.
Valve has not run its official compatibility review on the game yet, and that rating is entirely their call. Everything below is our own testing on real hardware.
WHAT WE TESTED ON A REAL DECK
- A native SteamOS build. The Linux depot is a native build, not the Windows version running through a compatibility layer.
- Full controller play, start to finish. Menus, the Outfitter, the pause screen, Options, your Service Record, and the whole run are reachable on the gamepad alone. You never need the trackpad, the on-screen keyboard, or a mouse.
- Native button prompts. The game shows the same A / B / X / Y glyphs the Deck uses.
- Native 1280x800, fullscreen from the first launch. The interface was laid out for the 7-inch screen at the Deck's own resolution, not scaled down from a desktop layout. There is nothing to configure before you play.
- Suspend and resume mid-run. Put the Deck to sleep in the middle of a wave, come back later, and the run is still there.
- Cloud saves. Your run, Service Record and unlocks carry between the Deck and a desktop. Audio and video settings deliberately stay per-device, so the Deck keeps its own.
- No launcher, no account, no internet needed. The game boots straight into itself, and the whole thing is single-player and offline.
HOW IT PLAYS THERE
Short waves and the dock between them fit handheld sessions well. You can stop after one round or keep pushing, and docking checkpoints the run either way.
TELL US IF SOMETHING IS OFF
If you hit anything on Deck that does not match the above, post it in the Gunmetal Orbit community hub or email [email protected]. Deck reports go to the top of the list.
