Straight from your reports on the wire — thank you. This one turned into the
biggest update the game has ever had: a whole new chapter, a true final boss,
a full content expansion, all-out boss cinematics, a balance pass, and a
stack of fixes.
CHAPTER 5 — THE SOURCE
The campaign goes one level deeper. Below the Dark Web, below everything,
there's a place where the wire began — cold-white phosphor, dead-quiet music,
enemy packs built from the deadliest things you've met, and elites that hunt
in PAIRS. The descent choice now waits below the NULL OPERATOR: hang up and
take your win… or follow the hum all the way down.
THE WIRE — five lives, five forms
The true final boss. It sheds a form every time you kill it: THE WIRE →
BARE COPPER → LIVE CURRENT → GROUND FAULT → SIGNAL ETERNAL. Five sculptures,
26 moves, 310 base HP — the longest fight in the game, with its own
achievement (CUT THE WIRE). THE GAUNTLET now chains all TEN bosses.
Phase changes are a PRODUCTION now
Every boss rebirth goes all-out: the old form scatters into falling glyphs,
the screen tears with static and chromatic split, the CRT power-pulses, the
camera punches in with a hot red flare while the new form reassembles
white-hot, the sting pitches up with every phase, letterbox bars pinch the
frame, and the new name slams onto the field. The final form goes hardest.
Identical in co-op. Reduced Motion keeps the calm instant swap.
The wardens grew teeth
Every chapter boss got a health buff (Carrier 80→96, Gatekeeper 120→140,
MOTHER 155→178, NULL OPERATOR 210→242) and TWO new moves in every phase —
piercing rounds, energy drains, thorn strips, backup summons, card locks.
They telegraph more, threaten more, and never repeat themselves.
The Daemon feeds properly now
You told us chapter 2 was a wall with no sustain — you were right. THE DAEMON
goes 34 → 38 max HP, Leech and Drain heal 3, and Leech Kernel heals 2 per
Attack. The sacrifice engine finally refills as fast as it burns.
Co-op is a first-class citizen
Fixed the reported bug: clients no longer stare at "404 NOT FOUND" during
the descent while the host sees SIGNAL FOUND — everyone gets the green
resolution (the host still makes the call).
The Jackpot's teeth now bite clients too (losing-pull corruption and the
relic price ladder were silently discarded by the sync).
Scavenger Hook works in co-op events; the flawless +12 gold bonus pays in
co-op; chapter clears show the proper CHAPTER banner; and co-op runs END
like solo runs — full score sheet, operator statue, deck review, for
every player.
THE WIRE GREW. A LOT.
+30 enemies (78 → 108): new rogue processes across all four chapters —
the Screamer, the Chain Letter, the Honeypot, the Time Bomb, the Void
Crawler, the Grief Engine — plus six new ELITES: Hijacker, MACRO VIRUS,
LOGIC PLAGUE, THE AUDITOR, GHOST SYSOP, and MELTDOWN. Every single one has
its own hand-built 3D sculpture and codex page.
+30 cards (108 → 138): 7 new cards per operator + 2 neutral. Sysop gets
fortress steel (FORTRESS PROTOCOL), Daemon gets blood magic (EXSANGUINATE),
Phreak gets tempo engines (INFINITE LOOP), Operator gets lifelines
(LIFELINE), and everyone gets a corruption-spender that draws.
+30 relics (43 → 73): artifacts on every trigger — combat-start bombs
(Flash Bang, Tripwire), engines (Echo Chamber, Flywheel), first-strike steel
(Sharpened Bit, Opening Gambit), defenses (Faraday Mesh, Mirror Shard, Dead
Man's Switch), and economy plays (Lucky Token, Barter Chip). Every one
sculpted in 3D.
+30 anomalies (6 → 36): dead drops, auction ghosts, sunken BBSes,
half-installed gods, and one phone that has always been ringing for you.
Events will barely repeat within a run now.
BOSSES ARRIVE PROPERLY NOW
Chapter wardens and the MOST WANTED get a real entrance: a low sting hits,
the screen TEARS with static and chromatic split, letterbox bars close in —
and the boss MATERIALIZES white-hot out of nothing while its name types out.
Then the wire tells you what it knows: every warden has a dossier line, every
legend shows its actual bounty. Skippable with any input; Reduced Motion gets
the calm version.
The highlight that hid behind itself — fixed
Selecting an operator, a wanted poster, or a relic floats its glass panel
forward — and the highlight bracket used to stay behind it, invisible. The
bracket now rides in front of the lifted glass, always.
The math is audited now
We built a simulated-battle auditor that plays out hundreds of fights and
cross-checks every number — Strength, Weak, Vulnerable, Frail, Thorns, block,
energy, corruption, and the damage forecast against what actually lands. Over
1,700 checks now (every card gets played, every relic gets a real fight), and
it caught a real one: Punch Card (and First Strike / Zero Cool) never
applied to the corruption-spending Attacks. Fixed — Vent, Purge Surge,
Blackout, and Overload now get your first-Attack double like they always
should have. The auditor runs on every build from here on.
The machine bites back
You found the exploit — stack gold, vacuum the relic pool through the reels.
Two changes: losing a PAID pull now feeds the machine (+8 Corruption) on
top of your stake, and the relic spin's price doubles for every relic
you've already won from the machines this run (40 → 80 → 160…). The free
demo spin stays consequence-free. Gamble because it's thrilling, not because
it's free money.
Thorns and the Rod, reined in
One of you hit 119 Thorns. Impressive. Also over. Hardened Loop is
QUARANTINE now (one play per combat — it was the infinite engine), and Thorns
caps at 30. The Grounding Rod scales with the wire instead of flattening it:
its per-hit cap is 15 in Chapter 1, +3 per chapter after (15/18/21/24).
You'll know what you got
Random event grants are named now — a SALVAGED screen shows exactly which
card or relic the anomaly handed you (in co-op it shows on your waiting
screen). The safe node displays your CORRUPTION next to your HP, since Patch
Up cleanses it. And Sudo-style cards stop claiming "(permanent)" — they say
what they mean: "for the rest of this combat."
One less Enter press
Jackpot and Warez results now advance on a mouse click too — pad Ⓐ and
any-key already worked; mouse and Deck players are no longer stuck hunting
for the Enter key.
Multi-hit damage finally reads right
No more "6 Damage 6 Times" head-math. Every multi-hit attack — yours and
theirs — now reads per-hit × hits = total: Twin Strike says
"Deal 5×2 = 10 Damage", an enemy flurry telegraphs "⚔ 3×6 = 18". And that
total is the REAL number: Weak now correctly bites into multi-hit cards, the
card face updates live and turns red so you see exactly what changed. What
you read is what will land.
Relic browsing behaves
Stepping up into your relic strip and back down now closes the relic preview
instead of leaving it parked over the fight — and your hand auto-selects the
first playable card when focus returns, so you're never staring at a
highlight-less hand wondering where the cursor went.
The map shows you where you're going
The destination under your cursor now grows and lights up — edge and letter
brighten, the node swells with a soft pulse. No more squinting at a ring.
Plus a new at-a-glance loadout strip: every relic you carry (in its color)
and your deck size, right on the map. Plan routes without opening a single
menu.
THE JACKPOT — now with an actual free spin
The machine said the first pull was on the house, then charged you. Fixed:
there's now a real FREE SPIN — no stake, watch the drums do their thing,
learn the machine, and keep a small tip for playing. Once per visit. The
machine itself got a glow-up too: bigger drums you can actually read, chrome
rims, colored money symbols (red 7s, green $, gold ★), a framed cabinet and
a glowing payline across the read row.
The vendors got bodies
The WAREZ DEALER is no longer a disembodied text box — a hunched, hooded
figure now looms beside his panel, goods hovering just out of reach. The
BLACK MARKET gets a SHOPKEEP too: a broad trader behind a stall counter, coin
spinning. Both in full retro-3D, both on wide screens (the Deck keeps its
clean full-width layout).
Steam Deck & controller fixes
The Warez Dealer is fully navigable on sticks and d-pad (and we added an
automated test so it stays that way).
The "LEAVE THE MARKET?" confirm and the PURGE picker can now be driven
entirely by controller — they were keyboard-only before.
Controller rumble
Your pad now kicks: a light tick when a card fires, a thump when you take a
hit, a heavy jolt on big hits, boss kills, and Jackpot wins. New CONTROLLER
RUMBLE toggle in Settings if you'd rather it didn't. Never fires on
keyboard/mouse, and Reduced Motion silences it too.
Boss entrances worthy of the name
Bosses no longer just get a warning box — their sculpture now sweeps onto the
screen and swells to full size while the name types out. The ones that come
back from the dead warn you: "it will not stay dead."
Harder hits, felt
Big hits shake harder and flash the screen. Small touches, all respecting
Reduced Motion.
Every relic is a sculpture now
Thirteen relics had been sharing one generic shape. No more: the Punch Card is
a studded slab, the Coin Miner a pickaxe over a coin, the Grounding Rod earths
itself into shrinking bars, the Defibrillator is a heart caught between charge
paddles, the Chain Socket interlocks its links… every relic in the game now
has a hand-built retro-3D form. And the relic inspector is BROWSABLE — arrows,
d-pad, or hover — with the selected relic spinning in full 3D beside the list
on wide screens.
The empty rooms got souls
Anomalies have a body. Events now show the thing itself: an impossible
shape — rings passing clean through solid geometry — looming beside your
choices.
Safe nodes have a shrine. A warm-lit terminal altar, candles burning,
a halo humming above it, while you patch up.
Your operator stands at the end of every run. Win, and they tower in
their color beside the score sheet. Fall, and their statue burns red —
then collapses into static. SIGNAL LOST.
One visual language
The card reward and the upgrade/purge picker now float under the same glass
headers as the relic reward, and every overlay — deck, keywords, relics, run
log, patch notes, session browser — wears the same chrome with a real ✕ CLOSE
button.
More Steam Deck big-text fixes
The co-op lobby's IP keypad and host controls no longer run off the edge on
narrow grids, and session browser rows stopped colliding with their status
tags at big text sizes.
Report anything that feels off — half this patch came straight from you.
