Two days after the Undercroft opened, the first retune. You told us the
Confessor folded in five turns before the dig had turned up a single relic,
the tables on the stairs down were softer than Tully's, and the decision
prompts blurred out the exact board you needed time to read. All three are fixed.
The Confessor
- The Confessor: 25 → 30 fortress HP. Shield stays 3.
- Radiant Sun, Shield of Aeloria: 2 Divine Favor recharges 3 shield, once each turn. It used to refill in full, every time she could pay — a wall no chip deck could climb, and a fight that ended before her Ark could break a seal.
- She sits down holding one relic — Anathema, Crescent Moon, or Ordin — and it counts toward her Ark's seals. Twelve replayed boss games found her dead by her turn 2–3 with zero relics in seven of them; one dig site needed her turn 5 for the first relic and turn 11 for the first seal.
- Her deck digs at two Relic Excavations. Interrogate is out; no unit removed, because relics need bearers.
- Starter decks, no emblems, 90 games: she now wins 16 (was 6). Player win 67–90% over 12–17 turns, down from 96–100% in 5–7. Her first seal breaks in 9 of 12 replays at turn 8–12, the second in 5, the third in 2 — all nine relics unearthed, which had never happened.
The stair down
- Undercroft battle tables: 9 → 11 → 13 → 15–17 HP by depth, instead of 6 → 8 → 9 → 10 → 11 → 12. A tavern whose door only opens after Tully's should start higher and climb, so the first elite is a step, not a spike.
- Elites, the qualifier, and every table in Tully's Ale Haus are unchanged.
- The Nine pay upkeep. Relic Seeker, Relic Hunter, the Inquisitors, Executioner Malik, Solenne Vashti, S'rella Nienvitar, Grand Inquisitor Maldoneus and Keos Luvitar kept for free; they now pay their cost each turn like everyone else.
- Bench (starter decks, no emblems): tables still 100% player win, but 2–3 turns longer and roughly 40% more damage taken on the way to the Confessor.
One word, one meaning
- "Branded" is now a keyword with its own codex entry: whenever this would gain Sin Counters, it gains 1 more. Only the spell Brand grants it, and it adds no Sin by itself — which is why casting it looked like nothing happened.
- Every card that simply adds Sin now says "marked with Sin" instead of "branded": Grand Inquisitor Maldoneus, Inquisitor Renquist, Censer Bearer, Grand War Chains, the Ark of the Sacred, Stolen Censer, and the "Acts of Aggression" attack warning. Nothing about how they play changed.
Decision prompts
- Swift Retreat, Toll of Penitence, Pay Them Off and every other choice prompt no longer blur the board. Hold V, or the pill under the panel, to look at it. On a controller, A on the pill toggles.
- Every prompt shows the card it is about: art, live ATK/DEF, shield, counters. Hover it for the full card.
- Choice buttons say what they do — "Pay 3 tribute" / "Take 3 damage" — instead of Accept / Decline. Cancel says what cancelling does.
- Swift Retreat shows the attacker, the estimated damage, and whether it is lethal, and counts "Decision 2 of 3" when several units are asked.
- The "+1 Sin" attack warning wraps inside a compact plaque instead of stretching across the battlefield.
Fixes
- Static Discharge needs a unit with Sin to target. It could be cast on a clean unit for 1 Energy and nothing.
- Bramblehorn's Devastating Strike throw plays: the destroyed unit is hurled from its slot into the fortress. It used to dissolve and show a number.
- War Chains, Confess, and the Condemned sentence have their smite effect and death flash. They killed silently.
- Play history names every kill: the card, the ability, slain by whom, entered play at 0 DEF, buff expired, aura lost. It used to read only "X destroyed".
- Warded hits that deal 0 damage still name the ability in the play history.
Known and next
- Layer-six elites still sit around 29% player win with a starter deck and no emblems. Real runs arrive with both; it is the cell we retune next if it feels wrong.
- The Merchant Coast is the deck that now loses to her a third of the time — it chips rather than bursts. Technocrats and Bards still close before her second seal in most games.
- Two of twelve replays unearthed all nine relics. Whether she ever summons an Avatar is now a question we can measure.
