Mitts 0.1.2231
Headlined by a full body-check redesign with a dedicated Hit button and knockdowns, plus a deep round of netcode reliability work and goal-detection hardening.
⚠️ New: dedicated Hit button, and checks have a real physical model now
- Hit is now its own button (Ctrl, rebindable). Hold it to commit to a body check — an uncommitted bump barely moves anyone, while a committed hit delivers real, full-blooded contact. Committing costs stamina (whether or not you connect) and widens your turn radius while held, the same trade sprint makes.
- Checks no longer bounce like pinballs. The old collision could send an attacker rebounding off their own target or dead-stopping on contact; hits are now resolved as a real physical impulse — a clean, committed hit drives through, a light bump glances off, and momentum behaves like momentum.
- New: knockdowns. A hard enough committed hit now puts the victim flat on the ice — no puck interaction, a heavy-friction slide to a stop, and a recovery window that scales with how hard they got hit. This is the new top end of the hit continuum, above a stagger.
- Controls shuffled to make room: Block moved to C, and canceling a shot charge is no longer tied to Block — tap the other shot button instead (RMB cancels a wrister charge, LMB cancels a slapshot wind-up).
Netcode: smoother movement, more reliable pickups
- Fixed a bug causing frequent, usually-invisible position corrections on your own skater — smoothed over by the client so you likely never noticed it directly, but it was working harder than it should have to hide constant micro-corrections, which would show up as real rubber-banding on a worse connection.
- Fixed several inconsistencies in how the game validates a contested pickup, poke, or stick-lift under lag — these were most likely to cause a puck you reached for to not register, especially for clients on a jittery connection.
Fixed: rare but real goal bugs
- Fixed a handful of phantom-goal edge cases where a puck could register as scoring from an angle that never actually crossed through the front of the net — most reliably reproducible on a bot's exact stickhandling behind the net.
- Fixed a case where a puck could slip through the side of the net without registering a goal, leaving it sitting in the net with no score.
- Fixed skaters occasionally getting physically stuck wedged inside the goal net.
- Fixed goalies sometimes sitting with their pads behind the actual goal line on a sharp-angle challenge, leaving a real coverage gap that shouldn't exist.
Bots: better shot decisions
- Goalies actually make saves against bots now. Bots were almost never getting saved — they'd either score clean or miss the net outright — because the shot model only ever took shots it considered a certain goal. Bots now take real shots that genuinely test the goalie, so misses show up as saves, not just posts and wide shots.
- Fixed a bug that could let a bot fire a one-timer on a puck it didn't actually have possession of during a turnover.
- Fixed bots occasionally skating right past a clean scoring chance without ever getting a shot off, especially under pressure from a trailing defender at a sharp angle.
- Fixed bots treating a defender they'd already beaten as still blocking their path, needlessly passing up a legitimate drive to the net.
- The last defender back on a rush now reads the play correctly — no more leaving a breakaway to chase the wrong man, and a deep trailer now properly joins a developing rush instead of getting stranded in your own zone.
Fixes
- Fixed your own attribute build occasionally showing as all-medium on the pregame matchup screen after joining online — cosmetic only, your real build was always what actually played.
- Fixed arm jersey stripes rendering visibly larger than the matching sock stripes.
Compatibility
- Network protocol updated (Hit button, knockdown state) — everyone needs this build to play together.
