Hello commanders,
Today we are announcing the launch of update 1.2.0, the ability and QoL update.
Abilities used to be things that happened to the battlefield from above: a strike, a drop, a nuke.
Your formations on the ground had mostly no say in it.
There are now 21 new abilities that can be used by units themselves, each limited to the eras it belongs to. Some of these are; rally, dig in, smoke screens, suppressive fire and target designation.
Abilities that impact the map also have been added: caltrops, minefields, temporary crossings, prepared ambushes, recon sweeps and more such as paradrops:

Air drops are no longer free either. Supply drops, equipment drops and paradrops are flown in by
transport aircraft, and enemy fighters or anti-air over the drop zone take a share of the cargo out
of the sky. Enough guns over the target and the flight is refused outright.
With this many options, finding the right one had to get easier, so selecting a tile now lists the
abilities that suit it along the bottom of the screen:

On the quality of life side there have also been a lot of improvements. Some of these are;
- Keyboard shortcuts have been added, all rebindable under controls in settings.
- An undo button beside submit that walks back through the orders you gave this phase.
- Group selection, so you can shift-drag a box or ctrl-click formations and then order all of them at once, with a right-drag stringing them out into a line:

We also added spectator mode, which hands your own forces to an AI commander so you can watch the battle from your side of the line.
Alongside these additions are faction flags, improved enemy AI, a new save system without the old 5 MB ceiling, new sound effects and various UI improvements.
These are quite a few changes, and we expect it will need some tuning once it is in your hands. Let us know what you think of these changes.
