BIGGER UPDATES
FABRICA — Windows and doors that snap into what you built.
Point at a face of a block and the exact spot lights up. Click and the window is cut clean through, so you see whatever is behind it. Brick runs around the opening instead of under it, the way it would if someone had actually built it. Hold the button and drag along the wall for a row of them, or up the wall for floors. Drag both ways and you get a facade in one go. Extend that wall later with more blocks and your windows stay exactly where you put them. Every part now lives in one place, on grouped shelves with a search box. Expect more presets in future updates.
SPEED — Big pictures stopped crawling.
The app opens at the finest pixel size now, and on a large picture that had become painful. Just moving the mouse redrew the whole thing. So did every single dab of a brush. Turning onion skin on made it worse again. I went through it properly instead of papering over it. Painting on a big picture is many times faster, and onion skin costs almost nothing now. I left checks behind that will catch it if it ever creeps back.
MATERIALS — Textures follow the surface they land on.
Brick on a wall now runs along the wall instead of straight across your screen. Tiles on a floor lie flat in it. It was drawing them the same way no matter what they landed on, which looked wrong the moment you put brick on anything isometric.
COLORS — Palettes with room to shade in.
The main set is eight colors across with eight shades of each running down underneath, light at the top. Deep green, amber, red, magenta, purple, cobalt, teal and a warm grey. There is a purples-and-golds set built the same way. The plain single-color sets went from nine or ten steps up to thirty two, because nine is not enough to shade with. The console and era sets are untouched, since the limit is the whole point of those.
POINT AT IT — Fewer clicks to get at your own work.
Move now picks up whatever you clicked on. You do not have to find it in the layer list first. Double-click words on the canvas and it opens those words, not whatever layer happened to be selected.
SMALLER UPDATES
Boxes can be pulled below the ground to dig instead of stopping at it. Circles and ovals snap to a wall or a floor, not just the grid. The palette panel can be pinned so it stops getting knocked shut, and its groups fold away. Erase Fill sits with the other fill tools. The live preview keeps its own controls inside it. New symbols for the isometric tools and for adding words. The window tool only aims at paint you can actually see, so it stops offering to cut a hole you already cut. Dozens of small fixes.
