Hello, this is the City Council. Please stand by for the following broadcast on...Sprinting in You Are Empty Absolute Edition.
We did not wish to meddle with the core experience of the game, but we did notice a lot of feedback over the years about movement, or at least the lack of it.
Of course, the speed at which you move within You Are Empty helps to build the tension. Whether you’re traversing the cold, concrete streets or the rusted jungle of the mill, the atmosphere is beautifully captured. This is why we wanted to make the ‘Sprint’ an optional toggle and limit it to 30% faster than the standard movement speed. This speed keeps the game balanced, while offering a tangible difference to player movement.
The sprint itself is not the typical modern idea of sprinting you see in video games. Your screen won’t be assaulted by an explosion of motion blur and the disappearance of your limbs, as you become a speeding bullet. Instead, you get a small speed boost of 30%, which helps you avoid enemies and their projectiles.
The proof, as they say, is in the pudding, so we’ve prepared this GIF to showcase the level of speed (30%) you can expect from the sprint -
In the options menu, click the box to toggle Sprint; the default keybind is holding down ‘Shift’. You can, of course, bind Sprint to whatever key or button you wish!
We want to provide the best possible version of You Are Empty, as close as possible to the original vision. This is why the Sprint is purely optional and not forced upon the player.
Stay tuned for more posts on how You Are Empty: Absolute Edition came about, including a 30-minute preview of the Absolute Edition in action.
City Council out.
