Are you an alien? Are you in massive debt? Do you fly a UFO and have a complicated relationship with the mother of your child? Then you might just be JOHN GLEEP, the protagonist of my next game - JOHN GLEEP! Check out the reveal trailer below!
This trailer came out as part of the Secret Sauce Showcase, which is run by offbrand games. They don’t just run the showcase, though… they’re also publishing JOHN GLEEP! I’m so excited to have the support of the team at offbrand games. They’ll be helping with lots of stuff like marketing, localization, QA, promos, and more.. With their help, I get to focus on developing the game and making it the best it can be!
The character, John Gleep, has been stewing around in my head since summer of 2025. I knew he ran a casino, that he had trouble with his family life, and that he owed the mob a galaxy. While the story unraveled, the gameplay ideation took some time to develop. The question was - how do I build a casino manager type of game that has the intense urgency the story demanded? And so, in early 2026, the idea was born of a split-screen style of gameplay where one side is UFO action “intake”, and the other is the idle-casino “outflow.” All the other roguelike systems followed this central shape of the game. It’s a strange, but exciting bend of genres that I hope you’ll enjoy!
