Hey everyone — v1.4 is here, and it's a big one 💜
⌨️ 6 REAL MECHANICAL SWITCH SOUNDS — now 76 styles
Everyone asked for actual keyboard switches, so here they are:
🔵 Blue Switch — that sharp, satisfying click
🟤 Brown Switch — soft tactile bump, office-friendly
🔴 Red Linear — smooth and quiet, clean bottom-out
⚪ Topre — the deep rounded "thock" people chase
🏛️ Buckling Spring — IBM Model M, heavy clack with the metal spring ping
🔶 Alps Clicky — bright vintage clack
⭐ FAVOURITES + FILTER
Star any style and it jumps to the top of the list. Press Ctrl+Alt+K anywhere to
flick to your next favourite without even opening the window. And there's a filter
box now — type "switch" or "piano" to find what you want instantly.
🎲 HUMANIZE
Real keyboards never sound identical twice. KeySound can now vary every press a
tiny amount so typing feels alive. If you already own KeySound this stays OFF until
you tick it — I didn't want to change how your keyboard sounds without asking.
🚀 START WITH WINDOWS
New checkbox. KeySound is running before you open your first app.
⚡ OPENS INSTANTLY
It used to sit there for a few seconds building all its sounds before the window
appeared, which looked like it had frozen. Now it opens right away.
🔋 NO MORE BACKGROUND BATTERY DRAIN
The game-detection check was quietly using about 10% of a CPU core, forever. It's
now roughly 6000x cheaper. Your laptop will thank you.
🛠️ FIXES
❌ Rare bug where key sounds could stop working until you restarted
❌ Closing the window used to quit the app — now it minimizes and keeps playing
❌ When a game launched, KeySound vanished with no explanation — it now tells you why
❌ A key could go silent after a UAC prompt or lock screen
❌ Custom sound packs were never remembered and reset to Mechanical every restart
❌ Middle-click and side mouse buttons played a random letter's sound
❌ Long notes could jump in volume mid-note
❌ Optional key release sound, if you want to hear the upstroke too
Your 70 original sounds are completely untouched, and your settings carry over.
