v1.1 - The SumoDB/Staff Update
THE SUMODB (Steam / desktop)

The RECORDS room is now extremely meaningful. A full career database tracks every real bout in the game world. Wins and losses by kimarite, career streaks, head-to-heads, kinboshi, injuries, and full basho-by-basho history for every rikishi, including retired legends (a career archive preserves notable AI careers forever).
- DATABASE tab in RECORDS: a searchable index of every known rikishi with division, status, and sort filters
- Full profiles: wins-by-style spider charts, winning and lost-by kimarite bars, rank progression with division bands, division records, streaks, injury history, the complete basho log, and a recent-form strip that reads newest-first
- Record boards: 14 boards such as Career Wins, Championships, Special Prizes, Gold Stars, Kimarite Variety, and more
- All Heyas: every stable in career's world in one expandable table - members, combined career record, current injuries, and each heya's best rikishi
- Rivals on the card: the RIKISHI page lists each man's rivals. who they are, the rank the feud began at and how long it's gone on, head-to-head score etc. clicking one opens the full comparison to show careers side by side with overlaid spider charts and their rivalry timeline
- Database is reachable from important places: a DATABASE button under the portrait on every RECORDS rikishi card, DATABASE and COMPARE plaques on the banzuke fighter card and Matchup Details, and every row of the day's SCHEDULE opening the head-to-head of that bout's two rikishi
- Where it really earns its keep is mid-basho: scout your opponent, see the moves he wins with and the ones he loses to, then aim your coach's INSTRUCT at the line that beats him and cook the chanko that focuses your man on the right styles
- Jun-yusho (Makuuchi runner-up) is now credited and displayed; the AI world quietly earns sansho by the same standards you do
THE BASHO ARCHIVE (all platforms)
A new BASHO tab in RECORDS keeps a page for every tournament your stable has fought - open any of them, years later:
- Yusho podiums for all six divisions, winning records in green, with kettei-sen winners honored
- Every special prize and every kinboshi gold star awarded that basho - yours and the world's
- How your rikishi did, including men who have since left the heya
- What won bouts that basho: a kimarite chart drawn from every real bout in the tournament
- The injury report: a day-by-day chart of the toll, split into fresh injuries, bad injuries, and injuries that worsened from fighting on, with the full kyujo count beneath
THE STABLE LEDGER (all platforms)
The RECORDS STABLE tab is rebuilt as a scrolling ledger of everything the heya has done:

- The house style: a chart of your Heya’s most-used techniques, drawn from every career win by your rikishi and alumni
- Coach-Taught Wins: a running count of victories earned under the coach's instruction
- The kitchen records: pots cooked by recipe, bowls eaten, and the total stat points served, fatigue soothed, injury days healed, morale lifted
FINANCES UPDATE (all platforms)
- FUNDS OVER TIME: a true week-to-week graph of the stable's money, is now in the Finance tab
- THE YEAR AHEAD: a six-basho projection of fixed costs against pledged income. Expiring koenkai patronages drop off the ledger as they lapse, and the January staff raise is marked on the Kyushu row before it lands.
- Better accounting: fighter and staff salaries are itemized separately, and staff appear in the income table at their true wages, marked as drawing no bout income
HEYA STAFF (all platforms)
Retire a fighter into a permanent role. Staff keep their bed, stop competing (rank frozen until released), and work for the stable every day.
- Coach (Makuuchi veterans only, current or former): spend INSTRUCT uses on the day screen during the basho to pick a style from his known lines - your fighter gets a boost to that line's stats and fights IN it, with the coach's own signature moves weighted and a loaned move if your fighter knows nothing there. Wins credit "Coach's teaching" in the bout log
- Coach levels are earned on the dohyo: stable-wide winning records two basho in a row level him up (three for levels 4 and 5), announced in week 1. Uses per basho rise from 2 at level 1 to 7 at level 5
- Chef (any rikishi who has cooked chanko 5+ times): takes over every pre-basho cooking session. No rotation, better bowls, bigger batches (3 minimum, up to a 15-bowl feast at level 5 with premium ingredients), all drawn from his own recipe book. Buy mastery to 5 stars from his pot, or let cooking and jungyo masterclasses raise it for free.
- Appointing staff from FACILITIES costs a one-time ¥1,000, but rikishi sometimes ask for the role.
- Staff live their own lives: seminars, study trips, TV spots, poach attempts, January raises, retirement at 45-ish, koenkai reactions, and a chef who may open his own restaurant and send money back later
- Salaries: coach ¥150 per basho, chef ¥100, rising with tenure. Staff are shown by role across the roster, day screen, basho summary and training camp - tiles tinted, stat sheets greyed, frozen rank always visible, and their training points handed back to the pool the moment you appoint them
THE JUNGYO
The regional tour has new stops on the road:
- LEARN or FORGET: the Kimarite Clinic now lets you add or remove moves from a rikishi’s known moves list. Learning works as before with one new move, any style, drawn by chance. However, you can now choose up to two known techniques to forget instead, narrowing his sumo to sharpen it. A rikishi always keeps at least two moves.
- Tour reports are reformatted to look much nicer
- Hardcore: no tour without an active Juryo-or-better fighter on the roster. And once invited, skipping it with a Makuuchi man in the heya risks a reprimand from the JSL
EVENT UPDATE
- Event chains: multi-part story arcs, labeled with part numbers, that unfold across weeks - the Gambling Scandal now starts with a stablemate's warning and only reaches the papers if you let it fester. Feuding stablemates can escalate into a rivalry that ends in reconciliation, a lifelong friendship, or a departure and more.
- New events: Thank you to discord users that suggested events! Added the giant macaron celebration after a Makuuchi yusho, promotion ceremonies for Juryo, Ozeki and Yokozuna (with koenkai gifts for the top two), an audience with the Emperor for career Ozeki and Yokozuna, fan meets, a strange invitation to go drinking, the Deliberation Council's displeasure with an underperforming Yokozuna, and a callback for rikishi once talked out of quitting who make it to the salaried ranks
- Going ALL OUT is never a sure thing: the risky option now caps at a real 85% success no matter how strong the rikishi
- Some events now scale their cost/reward with heya size.
- No single event can bury you: one card can never take the stable more than ¥1,500 into the red on its own, however unlucky the week
- Seven small windfall events (¥300 to ¥1,500) to balance the flat-rate bills
- No more repeat events within a year: only genuinely state-driven events (career threats, chain steps) may recur, everything else waits for the new year
- Accepting a rikishi's retirement now takes effect immediately, with a proper send-off - no more ghost basho from a man who already hung up his mawashi
- Neutral event outcomes resolve as SETTLED instead of a red FAILED
MECHANICS AND BALANCE
- The strain meter: injuries now carry a five-bar meter, on his card every day of the basho. Fighting through adds a bar at a time (two in Hardcore, and rolled far more often), stretching recovery and raising the odds of the next knock - he is only forced out once the meter is pushed past full, so a maxed bar means the next one ends his basho.
- 横綱大関 - the Yokozuna-Ozeki: with fewer than two Ozeki on the banzuke, a Yokozuna carries the combined title to cover the empty slot
- Kadoban now shows on the basho summary when an Ozeki takes a losing record
- Weight is now Balance (均): Renamed this stat to avoid confusion
- Solo Career's move picker gains the Balance line, Belt Work
- Chanko: stat bowls lean the eater toward the matching styles on top of the opening-bout boost, the Balance bowl is now Antei Chanko, and bowls feed back to back until the pot is empty
- A yusho winner who withdrew injured after clinching keeps his fan club. And Zensho now demands a true perfect basho - every bout fought, every bout won, so 14-0-1 is a champion but not an undefeated one
- Practice repriced: keiko roughly halved, moshiai a flat ¥2,500 - but injury risk is up in both, and every injury lands on the results card
INTERFACE
- One tray per rikishi on the day screen: injury and strain meter left, INSTRUCT, EAT CHANKO and WITHDRAW are on the same component now.
- The stable hall and facilities now have a background!
- Nav is improved. Japanese subtitles, diagonal wood grain, and an underline that turns gold on the active tab.
- Kyujo announcements sit on a washi card before day 1, with sekitori taking the visible slots
- A rikishi's career line wraps on his fighter card instead of spilling off it, and special prize cards no longer clip the winner's name
- Full controller support extends to everything new.
- Touch scrolling fixed: long lists and record cards that refused to drag on a phone now scroll properly
