Hey everyone! Big update today with a brand new system for Animal Husbandry plus a pile of bug fixes and quality-of-life improvements that have stacked up since the last build.
NEW: Animal Husbandry Breeding System
Animal Husbandry now has real depth. Once you have 2 mature animals of the same type, a Grooming Kit, and Animal Husbandry level 15+, you can breed them to produce offspring with quality tiers.
Breeding Mini-Game
- A star-shaped precision timing challenge determines offspring quality
- A tracer dot moves along the star's perimeter -- stop it on a star tip for Perfect (100 pts), on a blue segment for Good (50 pts), or miss for 0
- Three rounds per breed attempt, max score 300
3-Tier Quality System
- Common (white border) -- default
- Fine (green border) -- requires a decent mini-game score
- Superior (blue border) -- requires a high score and AH level 30+
Quality-Aware Production
- Fine and Superior animals produce upgraded resources: Fine Egg, Superior Wool, Fine Truffle, etc.
- Higher quality resources sell for more and are used in new crafting recipes
New Crafting Recipes
- Spin Fine Wool Thread (AH 25)
- Spin Superior Wool Thread (AH 45)
- Fine Egg Fried Rice (Cooking 30)
- Superior Truffle Omelette (Cooking 55)
Horse Combat Bonus
- Superior quality horses now reduce monster respawn time, scaling up to 50% faster respawns at max quality
Breed Cooldown
- Animals enter a 2-hour cooldown after breeding, shown as a progress bar on the animal card
Bug Fixes & Polish (v2.1.0)
A major bug fix pass addressing issues reported by playtesters:
- Buff bar now shows all active buffs and debuffs in a single unified list with proper SVG icons (no more emojis) [] Lapidary XP tasks added -- Practice Stone, Low-Quality Gemstone, and Semi-precious Gemstone tasks so you don't have to grind hundreds of gems to level
- Inventory categories overhauled -- new Animal, Familiar, Junk, and Parts categories
- Fixed: Alchemist's Edge quest dialog now correctly describes the actual reward potions
- Fixed: Alchemist's Edge quest now requires drinking 2 potions manually (Auto-Potion does NOT satisfy this)
- Fixed: Shrine Knowledge quest reward replaced non-existent "Combat Brew" with Healing Draughts
- Fixed: "Bitter Tonic" renamed to "Dusty Tonic" to match its actual ingredient [] Fixed: Several combat stat icons that were displaying corrupted characters
- Fixed: Enemy loot tables referencing legacy item IDs updated to current items
Quest Flow Fixes (v2.0.2 - v2.0.3)
- Fixed: Arming tutorial quest (Forge Your Weapon) now correctly appears after Frontier Foothold before Dryona First Blood can begin
- Fixed: Dryona First Blood no longer rewards a class-wrong weapon -- reward is now 200 gold and combat XP for all classes
- Fixed: Frontier Foothold now rewards 250 gold and gathering XP
- Fixed: "Wand damage" wording replaced with "weapon damage" -- accurate for all classes
- Fixed: When multiple feature quests unlock at the same time, they now queue properly instead of losing dialogs
- New: NPCs now address you by name! Commander Voss, Kael, Thessara, Old Maren, Dren, General Sorn, Mira, Aldric, and Seraphine all use your character name in their dialogue
As always, feedback is welcome on the Steam Discussions page. Let me know what you think of the breeding system!
