Second update in our series on how the overlay looks and behaves while you play. This one focuses on list-style screens — inventories, item lists, settings menus — where several rows share the same name.
Stable translations in item lists and menus
- No more vanishing lines — on screens with many identically-named rows, a translated line could periodically flip back to the original text for a second. Rows now keep their translation.
- No more duplicated merges — two adjacent rows with the same name could merge into one box that showed the same translation twice. Rows now stay separate.
- Icon misreads handled — a row's leading item icon could be read as a stray letter that leaked into the translation, or make the box jump sideways every few seconds. Both are now filtered out.
- Steady size and background — font size and box background could shift periodically on a still list screen. They now hold.
Translation size matched to the original
When translating from English or other alphabet-based languages into Japanese, Chinese or Korean, the overlay text used to look noticeably larger than the original. The default size now visually matches the original text, and your font size setting still applies on top of it as before. Also fixed a case where a short translation could fold into a one-character-per-line column at smaller sizes.
Quick translate stays simple
The quick translate button now offers two output positions: Near text and Bottom. The Custom drag-anywhere position introduced last time remains available for regular sessions.
First Steps: set up shortcuts
The First Steps checklist on Home has a new step for setting up keyboard shortcuts, so you can start and stop translation without leaving your game. If you had already finished the checklist, it comes back once with just the new step — one tap and it's gone again.
Playto Cloud: clearer regional availability
Playto Cloud is currently unavailable in some regions due to restrictions of the underlying AI service. Until now this failed silently; the app now tells you clearly and switches to local translation on its own. We are also looking into whether there is something we can offer for unsupported regions.
The Cloud tab now carries a few usage notes — for example, continuous full-screen capture uses credits faster, so pausing while you are not playing helps — and a one-tap question about whether Cloud is useful to you. Your answer helps us decide where to take it, including a possible VLM mode we are considering.
Tell us what still feels off
The next items on our list are smarter grouping of multi-line text and label clusters. If something else bothers you more, tell us via Contact us in the app, Discord, or this Steam thread — reports like these decided most of what shipped today.
