Hey everyone!
Thanks for playing Twin Stick Checkers since launch. Our first update is live, with a visual refresh to the board, better controller support and a batch of fixes based on what we saw after release.
Visual Refresh
- Player meters: redesigned HUD meters, easier to read mid-fight.
- Piece meters: every piece now shows its status more clearly on the board.
- Highlight arrow: shows which piece is selected and which piece has to jump.
- Tile highlighting: tiles light up as you move across the board, so you can see where you're about to move.
- Cursor art and feedback: redesigned cursors, with clearer feedback when an action isn't allowed.
- Bullet pop-ups: cleaner ammo feedback when shooting.
- In-game meters now hide while the game is paused, so they don't clutter the pause menu.
Gameplay & Controls
- Snappier cursor: the cursor no longer carries momentum, so it stops exactly where you let go.
- Controller disconnect pauses the game: if a controller is unplugged or runs out of battery mid-match, the game now pauses automatically instead of carrying on without you.
- Mouse cursor hides when idle: the pointer disappears after a few seconds without mouse movement and comes back as soon as you move the mouse. No more pushing it off the screen when playing with a controller.
- Smoother camera transition when pausing and resuming.
Bug Fixes
- Fixed the game opening in a small window on first launch. It now starts fullscreen at your display's resolution.
- Fixed first-launch video settings sometimes resetting on the next launch if the game didn't close cleanly.
- The default frame rate cap is now 60 FPS on first launch. You can change it any time in Video Settings.
- Fixed the gamepad being unable to navigate the pause menu after clicking empty space with the mouse.
- Fixed menu buttons sometimes needing two clicks to respond.
Technical
- Upgraded to Unreal Engine 5.8.
- The game now has its own icon on the Windows taskbar and title bar instead of the default Unreal one.
- Large internal cleanup of the project to make future updates faster and more stable.
