Forbidden Scrolls: Midnight Whispers is a Chinese supernatural-themed Roguelike deckbuilding game.
If you enjoy the thrill of combining poker hands, building your deck, and growing stronger with every run in Balatro, Forbidden Scrolls: Midnight Whispers offers a familiar yet distinctive experience steeped in the atmosphere of classic Chinese supernatural tales.
Bigger cards aren't always better—the cleverest combinations are the strongest
In battle, you must form different poker hands from your cards, including pairs, straights, flushes, and full houses.
Each hand triggers a different move, while card values, relics, talismans, and inscribed seals continually strengthen those moves.
You can:
Play it safe and deal steady damage with high-value cards.
Gamble on a high-multiplier hand for a single explosive strike.
Build an entire strategy around one type of hand.
Stack multipliers with relics until an ordinary card becomes the core of your build.
Every play demands a choice: play now, or keep drawing for an even greater payoff?
Roguelike deckbuilding brings a new strategy to every run
Each time you enter the Ancient Scroll, the map is generated at random.
Battles, elite encounters, unexpected events, shops, treasures, and supplies appear along different routes.
As you travel, you'll obtain new relics, talismans, and upgrades, making your deck stronger and stronger.
A reward that seems insignificant may become the centerpiece of your entire build.
Chapter One's unique mechanic: Lanternfire
Chapter One introduces a unique mechanic—Lanternfire.
At the start of each battle, one Lantern Card is lit at random.
Include it in your current hand to gain bonus rewards and steadily enhance Lanternfire's effects.
As your journey continues, you can unlock upgrades that:
Make Lantern Cards appear more often
Increase Lantern Card rewards
Give you more room for error when redrawing
Grant additional bonuses
Working this Lantern Card into your original game plan will become one of Chapter One's most important strategic challenges.
Every defeat is the beginning of your next build
Forbidden Scrolls: Midnight Whispers features Roguelike gameplay.
Defeat means starting over, but the routes, events, rewards, and builds you encounter on your next journey will all be different.
There is no single strongest card.
Only strategies that grow more refined with every run.
Experimenting with different combinations and creating a powerful style of your own is where the game's true fun lies.
