Major New Features and Improvements
Added Asset Support
The new Assets feature has been implemented.
Assets allow you to organize layer, motion, and frame structures separately as individual units.
This is useful when creating multiple image resources for the same game that require different layer structures.
Color palettes can be shared across multiple assets.
Sprite animations can also be assembled using images referenced from multiple assets.
Multiple assets can be stored together in a single .edg3 file.
To import Edge2 pages as assets, select “File > Import > Import Edge2 Pages as Assets.”
Note: When loading data from a workspace created by an earlier version,
some information will be lost during migration.
All information will be preserved after the file is saved again.
Note: If .edg3 file thumbnails are displayed in File Explorer, please reinstall
Edge3 Thumbnail Provider v0.9.2 or later, which supports assets.
Customizable Mouse Pointer for the Pen Tool
The mouse pointer used by the Pen tool can now be changed to any .cur file.
You can configure it from “Pen Tool Options Bar > Mouse Buttons > Pen Pointer Shape > Custom.”
Default Color Mode for PNG Export
You can now configure the initial color mode selected in the PNG export dialog.
This can be configured from “Default Color Mode” in the lower-left corner of the PNG export dialog.
If you frequently export indexed-color images while preserving indexed-color mode, setting the default to “Indexed” eliminates the need to select it manually each time.
Added “Remove Corners” to the Bezier and Spline Tools
A new “Remove Corners” option is now available for the Bezier Curve and Spline Curve tools.
This option uses an algorithm to reduce sharp corners that appear along curves. Because smoothing the corners is prioritized, there is a trade-off with maintaining the mathematically exact shape of the curve.
Copy the Composited Result of Visible Layers
A new feature has been added that copies the composited result of all visible layers to the clipboard.
It can be accessed from “Edit > Special Copy.”
It can also be selected from the “▼” button to the right of the Copy button on the toolbar.
Added PNG Clipboard Format Support
When copying an image to the clipboard, Edge3 now also stores the image in PNG format.
When supported by the destination application, the image can now be pasted while preserving its alpha channel.
Edge3 can also interpret PNG data when pasting images from the clipboard.
When another application copies a transparent PNG image to the clipboard, it can now be pasted into Edge3 while preserving its transparency.
Per-Sprite-Clip Display Settings
Checkerboard display and onion skin settings are now stored separately for each sprite clip.
The addition of assets made it possible to configure checkerboard display and onion skin settings separately for each asset, so sprite settings have also been standardized on a per-clip basis.
Improved Initial File Format Selection
The .edg3 extension is no longer added automatically to the file name when creating a new file.
In the “Save As” dialog, the previously selected file format will now be used as the default the next time the dialog is opened.
For example, if you frequently save files in PNG format, you no longer need to select the format again each time.
Other Improvements
Added an option to mouse-wheel bindings that activates the target window before zooming.
The configured erase color is now also applied when cutting an image or expanding the canvas size.
Onion skinning is now enabled automatically when its settings are changed.
A warning is now displayed when saving to a file format that cannot store sprite data and would cause data loss.
Lowered the priority of animation playback processing to prevent the UI from becoming unresponsive when playback places an excessive load on the system.
Improved the image quality when reducing RGBA images containing semi-transparent pixels to 256 colors or fewer.
Adjusted the Text tool behavior after fixing the text position with the right mouse button to more closely match EDGE2.
Improved an issue where the scroll position could shift significantly when changing the zoom level with the mouse wheel while dragging with the middle mouse button and then continuing the drag.
Improved Tab-key focus navigation in toolbars and dialogs. For example, the Tab key can now move focus from the X coordinate text box to the Y coordinate text box in the Sprite Frame panel.
Bug Fixes
Fixed an issue where sprite selection states were not saved in workspaces.
Fixed an issue where, when the same document was open in multiple views and animation was playing in one view, a selection transform in another view would be canceled immediately and could not be operated correctly.
Fixed an issue where keys such as Enter did not work in the font selection field.
Fixed an issue where the (backslash) key could not be recorded on the keyboard shortcut screen.
Fixed a heap corruption issue that could occur when undocking a docked toolbar and making it float.
